Bandwidth
Reduced
Development of higher
resolution video was held
back by the need for
storage space and
bandwidth. To take the
4K camera as an example, a common industry standard bitrates is
8Mbps for H.264 compression. Hence 591GB storage space needed
for 24 hours video for seven days. That’s much larger than the
storage space in a PC’s hard disk. Meanwhile, the camera needs no
less than 20Mbps bandwidth to support both live view stream and
storage stream computing. It’s much higher than the global average
wire speed, and only slightly less than South Korea which has the
world’s fastest streaming speeds. To balance the need for HD
storage and bandwidth cost, and to keep pace with the move from
H.264 to H.265, CCTV manufacturer Uniview says that it’s spent
enormous efforts to exploit HEVC coding standard, and finally
invented the patent coding technique U-Code. Together U-Code and
Open Door
UNION, a UK division of Assa Abloy,
the physical security product company,
was among exhibitors at last month’s
Master Locksmith Association (MLA)
Expo, at Telford. FastLatch is a new
range of push fit tubular latches and
privacy bolts that can be installed on
interior doors, faster than a traditional
latch, according to the product
manufacturer. They come three finishes – polished chrome, polished
brass and satin nickel. RetroV is for those looking to update old door
closers, such as the Briton 2003, 2003V and 2004 ranges. RetroV does
not require drilling to install, saving time and effort while maintaining
fire door certification, the makers say. DoorSense, pictured, a batteryoperated
product, allows fire doors to remain open for access and
automatically close during alarms. With no electrical wiring required,
DoorSense can be retrofitted in place of older door hold-open devices.
Biometric Addition
The Hungarian firm BioSec Group Ltd
reports that it has integrated its biometric
authentication product with Honeywell’s
WIN-PAK access control system. This
integration offers the additional layer of
security, of biometrics, the firms say. The
WIN-PAK platform has options from a
simple access control system to complex
integrated security. This integration
brings palm vein recognition. BioSec
says that palm vein recognition has many
advantages compared to other biometrics,
since it measures an inner characteristics,
the vein structure within the hand. The vein template cannot be stolen,
copied or reproduced as in case of other biometrics, which use surface
characteristics for personal authentication. Palm vein recognition
identifies the vein structure in five million reference points in less than
one second, it’s claimed. BioSec says its authentication product, the
BS LifePass was developed to integrate the security of the palm vein
recognition into any system, since it works as a middleware.
H.265 make Ultra 265.
That’s described by the
manufacturer as an end
to end solution which
can save up to 95 per
cent storage space and
75pc storage cost.
Unlike conventional
video compression
technologies which try to reduce storage costs by sacrificing
resolution and frame rate, U-Code chooses to use ‘IRP’ (Intelligent
Region Perception) to detect motion in each frame. Hence, scenes
containing interesting information can be preserved while other
static areas such as lawns, white walls can be squeezed, to save
storage. To reduce bandwidth, U-Code will stretch GOP (Group Of
Pictures). Meanwhile, it uses V.I (virtual I frame) to ensure that
media has a key frame that contains critical data so that the network
recorder can run the Frame Accurate Search and Quick Playback.
Uniview call it EF tech, short for ‘Enhanced Frame’. By combining
U-Code and H.265, the makers claim that Ultra 265 can squeeze up
to 95pc bandwidth and storage space.
Video Management
Johnson Controls has
introduced the latest
version of exacqVision
video management
system (v8.8).
The developers say
it provides tools for
situation awareness and control for administrators and users. Users
can now embed a web page as a panel within the exacqVision
client to get important information. This could be used to display
news headlines, or for connecting to web-enabled security or other
systems. Event links can be displayed as an association, to appear
on top of the live video feed. The product firm says this feature is of
use in retail, where metal or foil detectors are now being deployed
to detect foil-lined bags, as used by shoplifters. Once the serial data
profile is set up from the metal detector, whenever a foil-lined bag
is detected, an alert will trigger and appear on top of the live video.
IP PTZs
The Autodome IP pan, tilt and
zoom (PTZ) cameras from
Bosch Security Systems
enable users manually to
keep track of persons of
interest as they move – even
at speed, far beyond a fixed
camera’s field of view. These cameras have video analytics as
a standard and now add metadata to all captured video images.
This data can automatically alert users once pre-defined criteria
are met or for other uses beyond security. For example: enforcing
traffic regulations, enforcing no-parking zones, detecting vehicles
driving the wrong way and delivering occupancy data (the number
of vehicles entering or leaving a parking garage) for smart, more
efficient parking. The cameras generate metadata to add sense and
structure to the video footage, instead of just capturing and storing
video images. They not only detect objects, they deliver associated
data like size, speed, shape, direction, and color. They automatically
distinguish between object types such as person, car, bicycle,
motorcycle or truck, according to the product firm.
