SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL
Formula One
stock car racing
Once witnessed, never forgotten...
Non-stop action
A unique motorsport spectacle
Full-contact racing
F1 stock car racing is short-oval motorsport’s premier formula,
racing from March until November on shale and Tarmac
quarter-mile tracks.
BSCDA drivers continue to thrill the crowds across the
country and overseas.

F1 stock car racing
Fast, colourful, spectacular
FORMULA ONE stock car racing is the
most powerful and spectacular shortoval
motorsport racing in Europe.
First raced in Britain in 1955, the cars
have evolved more than 60 years later
into purpose-built, unlimited-powered
racing cars, using Chevrolet V8 engines,
producing up to 750bhp – the same
power as a F1 Grand Prix car.
The cars race anti-clockwise on quartermile
oval circuits on two surfaces, shale
and Tarmac, during a nine-month
season.
F1 stock cars are fast, loud, colourful
and spectacular to watch. With striking
large aerofoils on their roofs to aid a car’s
handling characteristics, F1 stock cars
thunder around the track at speeds of up
to 100mph on a 400 metre oval, and can
■ More
than 200
drivers are
registered
with the
BSCDA
■ Racing
takes place
from March to
November
at 14 venues
across Britain
and Europe
exceed more than 140mph around the
larger oval raceways in mainland
Europe.
There are two key aspects that make
F1 stock car racing stand out from other
forms of motorsport.
The racing is full-contact. The cars are
built to withstand contact, with large front
and rear bumpers and side rails. The
bumpers are used as weapons to move
cars aside, and also act as protection
when the hunter becomes the hunted.
The best drivers start at the back of the
grid. What makes the sport an exciting
spectacle is races are handicapped,
using a colour-coded roof system, with
the best drivers starting at the back of the
grid.
2

F1 stock car racing
A unique sporting experience
UNIQUE to other forms of motorsport, in
F1 stock car racing use roof colours to
designate capability and race grids are
made up of representatives from each
grade.
White, Yellow, Blue and Red roofs are
the sequence from the front of the grid to
the back with the top six in the country,
the Superstars, starting at the back.
Slow rolling laps signal the start of each
16-20-lap race and when the green flag
drops, the cars transform the stadium
into a supercharged, no-holds-barred
gladatorial arena.
It is what makes Formula One stock car
racing one of the most spectacular forms
of motorsport in the world.
Spectator friendly. Taking place in the
confines of a stadium, spectators can see
■ More than
40 F1 stock car
meetings are
held during a
season
all the action with uninterrupted views of
the track.
They can also visit the pit area at anytime
during a meeting, where drivers are more
than happy to talk to fans and to sign
autographs.
The BSCDA
Who we are, what we do and looking to the future
Spectacular
live shows
Full-contact
racing
Who we are: Stock Car racing began in 1954
at New Cross Stadium in London and due to its
popularity the sport needed to become more
organised.
As a result the British Stock Car Drivers
Association (BSCDA) was founded in
February1955.
The BSCDA was set up to look after the interests
of the drivers, and to work effectively with
promoters for the good of the sport.
6
The British Stock Car Drivers’ Association
A perfect example was the formation of the
Board of Control in 1958, a body that agreed
rules and regulations to benefit everyone
involved and allow the world of stock car racing
to grow.
What we do: Since those early years more
than 100 people have served their fellow drivers
by representing members of the
BSCDA via the Drivers’ Committee.
In 1976 the Driver’s Benevolent Fund was

Thrills and
spills
formed to help those having to take time
away from work with racing injuries. This was
registered as a Charity in 1984 and became
known as the BSCDA Trust Fund.
The BSCDA organise all bookings and
prize-money for race meetings. The BSCDA also
organise a number of events to promote the
sport, including at Europe’s leading motorsport
show, Autosport International, held every year
in January.
At the show F1 stock cars are a popular and
regular feature in the Live Action Arena, an hour
spectacle held three times on each of
two public days. F1 stock cars also feature at the
local events across the country.
Anyone can join the BSCDA and become
an Associate Member and receive all
newsletters and information about the
BSCDA.
Looking to the future: As the sport continues to
grow the BSCDA are looking to raise its profile
across numerous platforms as well as financing
12 BSCDA-linked events during the 40-meeting
season.
