The BSCDA Who we are, what we do and looking to the future Spectacular live shows Full-contact racing Who we are: Stock Car racing began in 1954 at New Cross Stadium in London and due to its popularity the sport needed to become more organised. As a result the British Stock Car Drivers Association (BSCDA) was founded in February1955. The BSCDA was set up to look after the interests of the drivers, and to work effectively with promoters for the good of the sport. 6 The British Stock Car Drivers’ Association A perfect example was the formation of the Board of Control in 1958, a body that agreed rules and regulations to benefit everyone involved and allow the world of stock car racing to grow. What we do: Since those early years more than 100 people have served their fellow drivers by representing members of the BSCDA via the Drivers’ Committee. In 1976 the Driver’s Benevolent Fund was
Thrills and spills formed to help those having to take time away from work with racing injuries. This was registered as a Charity in 1984 and became known as the BSCDA Trust Fund. The BSCDA organise all bookings and prize-money for race meetings. The BSCDA also organise a number of events to promote the sport, including at Europe’s leading motorsport show, Autosport International, held every year in January. At the show <strong>F1</strong> stock cars are a popular and regular feature in the Live Action Arena, an hour spectacle held three times on each of two public days. <strong>F1</strong> stock cars also feature at the local events across the country. Anyone can join the BSCDA and become an Associate Member and receive all newsletters and information about the BSCDA. Looking to the future: As the sport continues to grow the BSCDA are looking to raise its profile across numerous platforms as well as financing 12 BSCDA-linked events during the 40-meeting season. 7
