JOHN F. BURKE NATURE PRESERVE<br />

In an effort to balance protection of the City’s<br />
largest remaining natural resource, Farmers<br />
Branch engaged <strong>Dunaway</strong> to prepare a master<br />
plan for their 104-acre nature preserve. Located<br />
at the crossroads of three major freeways and<br />
perched along the Trinity River, the John F. Burke<br />
Nature Preserve is a diverse community of wildlife<br />
and vegetation that encompasses riparian<br />
forests, meadows and wetlands. This multi-faceted<br />
site offers a range of educational experiences,<br />
as well as an “escape” into the rugged river<br />
corridor. The Master Plan carefully considered<br />
new improvements including an amphitheater<br />
classroom, wetland boardwalks, a gateway<br />
pedestrian bridge, river overlooks, wildlife blinds,<br />
and a hierarchy of hard and soft surface trails.<br />
