Home-Start CHAMS is part of the solution for these children - last year
they supported 379 vulnerable local children. And have recently
enhanced their focus on helping young children become “confident early
learners” in readiness for them starting school. With your help, they can
give more vulnerable local children the best start in life.
But there were more local children across Crawley, Horsham & Mid-Sussex
experiencing hardship or tragedy and in need of the charity’s help who
they had to turn away because of lack of funds. Aneliese Whittaker,
Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator at the charity said “We want to be
able to reach every young child who needs us, so we can help give them
the best possible start in life. We’re asking our local community to get
involved with our appeal. Put on your Christmas jumper, perhaps bake
some cakes too, and get involved with raising much needed funds in the
run up to Christmas.”
The Snowflake Appeal runs 1st November – 31st January. To find out
more about how you can help make sure vulnerable children don’t have to
be turned away in the future, go to the charity’s website at
Why it matters
The five years between birth and school are vital for a child’s develoment.
What goes on inside a family during these years strongly determines the
opportunities and life chances children have. Children who are raised in a
stable, loving, family environment are more likely to have a positive and
healthy future.
But being a parent isn’t easy and sometimes life can get in the way.
Circumstances throw you off course and everything else can take a back
seat. A young child caught up in this can miss out on the love, routine and
stimulation that are so vital for their future.
Home-Start works because our volunteers are parents. They understand
how hard it can be. They work alongside parents, in their own homes, to
help them cope with the stresses and strains of life and make sure they
have the skills, time and strength they need to nurture their children.
The Snowflake Appeal
The ‘Snowflake Appeal’ is and to raise funds to support vulnerable
children in Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex and to increase awareness
of the charity’s work. It is part of a national campaign run by their parent
charity, Home-Start UK, and backed by TV presenter, Kirstie Allsopp.
The Snowflake Appeal runs from 1 st November 2016 to January 2017.
The snowflake symbol was chosen for the appeal because every child
Home-Start supports is as unique and fragile as a snowflake
