Page 18 Medway & Millis Local Town Pages www.localtownpages.com November 2017 Ursuline Academy Dedicates Athletic & Convocation Center in Honor of Reynolds Family At a dedication ceremony held on Saturday, September 23, Ursuline Academy’s new Athletic & Convocation Center was named “The Reynolds Family Athletic & Convocation Center” in honor of the Reynolds family of Westwood. The Athletic & Convocation Center was officially opened for student use on the first day of the 2017-18 school year. Ursuline Academy is an all-girls Catholic school guided by the teachings of St. Angela Merici, the founder of the Ursuline Order. The Academy has 400-plus students in grades 7-12, and is located on twenty-eight acres in Dedham. Ursuline students gather with Cardinal Seán O’Malley at the Mass of the Holy Spirit. Music for Young Children, (MYC), is an internationally-known, highlyranked program that already has 37 years of success, over 900 teachers and 24,000 students and counting, across three continents! Founded in Canada, MYC grew rapidly by building strong bonds with children through music. The goal is to provide the best musical education to young children by blending the pleasure and joy of music-making with sound instruction. Encore is proud to be adopting MYC’s early childhood curriculum and methods which directly integrate into, and utilize, The Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum. This program, created for children ages two to ten years, is designed to teach children, at an early age, piano skills, how to read music, sightreading skills, composition and ensemble playing. MYC instructors incorporate the four learning styles (auditory, tactile, analytical and visual) to teach each concept which ensures that every child has the highest level of success by being able to apply these skills in each class setting, and as they grow musically. Encore will offer classes beginning in January, 2018, and registration is now open! Classes for ages 2 and 3 meet weekly for 10-week sessions. The Bayberry Fair happens on Saturday, November 18th in Millis. The month has changed but not the traditions of family fun and Christmas shopping. Santa Claus will attend. Musicians will perform Christmas selections. For shoppers, a team of artisans have created handcrafted gifts and decor including holiday greens. Also available are gift baskets, tree ornaments, and baked goods. Raffle items will include gift certificates and Bruins tickets. Lunch and refreshments will be available for purchase. Vendors are welcome to sell their holiday wares. Proceeds support Saint Thomas the Apostle Church. The location is the Large Parish Hall on Main Street. The Millis Lions and LEOs Join Together to Say THANKS to Veterans “Field of Flags” Honoring Veterans to Be Displayed in Front of Town Hall The Millis Lions Club and Millis LEOs will be fundraising for Fisher House Boston by selling flags, for $10 apiece, in advance of Veterans Day.
