NOVEMBER: Heading up to Christmas there’s a lot to
see and do! On Saturday 18th and 19th November we
have the final fish festival of the year put on by Hastings
Borough Council - The Herring Fair. Although it’s held at
the Stade Open Space in Hastings Old Town, this one is
completely under cover. The stage, the music,
the bar and the various stalls selling fish dishes
(a lot of Herring variations) but of course other
choices. There’s also local wines, ciders and
beers. You’ll find Children’s entertainment in
The Stade Hall with crafts and face painting.
Warm clothes are advisable.

I’m presenting the music again this year. It’s
a bit more traditional, folky and acoustic...
Saturday features duo Sean Fennessey and
Piers Foster, The Kimberleys (Irish Folk), Local
guys Stone Junction, the Vocal talents of Now
and Then and The Martin Blackman Band.
Sunday starts at 11am with Now and Then, who also feature
in the age old tradition of Blessing the Nets at 12 noon
singing ‘The Shoals of Herring’....a rare chance to hear
this very old, traditional Hastings song. I then present
the superb Milton Hide duo. A must-see at 1.45pm are The
S a lt s...Sea Shantys with a difference...4 part harmonies
with some heavy weight instrumental backing. I always
finish the weekend with a Barn Dance - 3pm till 4.30pm.

On the very same weekend, The Palace on Hastings
seafront hosts the Hastings Fleadh, an extravaganza of Irish

January/February "New Year" edition, and will have
a submissions deadline of Friday, 15th December.

DECEMBER: On December 9th at St Mary in the Castle,
Hastings seafront, you can see the fabulous Christmas
Soul Party featuring 3 great bands: Funk & Disorderly,
The Kytes and The Blues Brothers, Soul Sisters Show
(15 piece band). Advance tickets are available from The
Hastings Tourist Information Centre on Hastings Seafront.
It’s the 20th year of this wonderful fund raiser so expect
some extra guests!
Tickets are £8.50 in advance and £10 on the
door. All proceeds are divided between St
Michael’s Hospice and Surviving Christmas. To
date we have raised £160,000.00 over the 20
years. This is always a great night - so if you
haven’t been invited to a Christmas party so
far, you have now!
Saturday December 16th sees The Winkle
Club’s Christmas Remembrance Procession
which makes it’s way from The Cyril & Lilian
Lifeboat at the bottom of Harold Road at
6.30pm to Winkle Island...where the Harmony 1 choir will
be singing a selection of Christmas Carols which you are
welcome and encouraged to join in with.
Simon at The Jenny Lind has been booking some wicked
bands lately - worth seeing are The Hi-Fi Sneakers on
Friday 8th Dec playing some unusual covers from the 60s,
a good bit of Northern Soul and original compositions -
catch them from 8.30pm. Saturday 16th he has booked
Justin and the Argonauts - see them to believe ‘em!
One last tip - Swing Street - 15 piece big swing band
plus 6 singers are appearing for their Christmas Party on
Saurday 23rd at The Black Market VIP upstairs Club in
George Street. Only £10 on the door...8 till late.
