Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs has
finally met its finale round and got
its winners. Yes ‘winners’ because
the show declared not one but two
contestants as the winners of the
season. Shreyan Bhattacharya
and Anjali Gaikwad have emerged
victorious in this season. It is for
the first time that any reality show
declared two winners for one season.
The grand finale was held in
Jaipur and also had performances
by the celebs like Kapil Sharma and
Bharti Singh. Anjali, Dhroon Tickoo,
Shanmukhapriya, Sonakshi Kar and
Vaishnav Girish were the finalists of
the show.
Now that the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l

TOURISM MAY SET
SAIL FROM INDIAN
SHORES SOON
NEW DELHI: Come 2018 and Indian
sea farers can set sail for Australia,
the Middle East, Thailand or Indonesia
without having to first fly to Singapore
or Bangkok to board a cruise liner.
The government has prepared a plan
to develop cruise tourism from India
and is in talks with international
companies to kick-start the facility by
next year as part of efforts to promote
the country as a complete tourist
destination. The move is expected to
boost revenue from tourism and create
jobs.
A high-level taskforce chaired by
the shipping secretary is in advanced
discussions with cruise terminal
management and construction
companies including Singapore-based
SATS-Creuers Cruise Services and
London-based PSA to start operations
from India, a senior government
official told ET on condition of
anonymity because the proposal is yet
to be finalised.
“The tenders for the same would be
floated soon,” the official said, adding
that the shipping ministry has roped in
Miami-based consulting firm Bermello
Ajamil & Partners along with EY to
draw up a plan for the development of
cruise tourism.
The ministry will invest Rs 1,500
crore to set up five cruise terminals in
the country, one each in Mumbai, Goa,
Chennai, Cochin and near Kandla port.
Another top official in the tourism
ministry confirmed that work is in
advanced stages and the government
will finalise incentives to be offered to
attract international companies to set
up base in India.
Demand for cruise tourism increased
62% between 2005 and 2015, with more
than 25 million such passengers likely
by the end of this year, according
to Cruise Lines International
Association. The industry generated
$117 billion in output worldwide in
2015.

Goa Gets
Set For
Three-Day
Bird Festival
In January
PANAJI: The state forest department
will hold the second edition of the Goa
Bird Festival in January next year.
Besides avian species, the festival will
focus on pelagic birds that migrate to
the state during that month.
Scheduled from January 12 to 14,
the festival will take place at Cotigao
wildlife sanctuary, a hotspot of ecology
and rich biodiversity.
Besides giving visitors an
opportunity to spot rare and
beautiful birds, organisers are also
contemplating scheduling a day for
watching marine birds along the state's
coastline.
The festival will be split into two
days at the Cotigao wildlife sanctuary,
and one day by the sea. "The three-day
festival will play host to both, amateur
birdwatchers, as well as renowned
ornithologists. A number of nature
and bird watching trails have been
designed for them to sight various
indigenous birds and migratory
species that regard Goa as their home,"
a forest official said.
Pelagic bird surveys by the Goa Bird
Conservation Network (GBCN) over
the past year have revealed that a
number of marine birds come close to
the shore post-monsoon. This makes
spotting of marine birds during in this
period a visual treat for enthusiasts.
Birders from the state have identified
approximately 350 species of both
residents and migratory birds at the
Cotigao wildlife sanctuary.
"The festival received positive response
last year and drew participation from
all over India. We are looking forward
to organising another year of natureloving.
The GBCN will play a major
role in conducting these bird trails,"
the official said.

Tulsi Vivah At
Goa Raj Bhavan
In a first, Goa Governor Mridula Sinha
hosted the Tulsi Vivah ceremony
at the Raj Bhavan in Dona Paula on
Wednesday. The ceremony was led by a
group of women priests from Tapobhumi
Sampraday at Kundaim Ponda in
Central Goa. The Governor performed
the kanyadan or giving Tulsi’s hand in
marriage to Lord Vishnu.
The State Department of Information
and Publicity, in a press release, said,
“The marriage symbolises oneness of
the embodied soul and God.”

Security Studies In Goa
Panaji, 30 Oct : The coastal state of
India is all set to witness a revolution
in the education industry as proposals
have been floated to set-up schools that
will solely focus on studies related to
security and the strategic angle to it.
The proposal has been put forward
by the Forum for Integrated National
Security (FINS), a think tank on
national security.
The state government is in discussion
with FINS regarding setting up
properly organised education system
to facilitate the learning of security
related strategic issues. FINS is the
group that holds the responsibility for
the national security. In addition to the
proposal made for setting up of schools
for security study, they have also
proposed to make Goa their permanent
venue for annual conferences held
each year.
This year as well, in the month of
October, FINS had organised a three
day conference on maritime security
at the South Goa Resort. The Goa
government is enthusiastic about
setting up the conference venue in
the state permanently and are in the
process of establishing a secretariat
here and have started consultation
with the Goa government. Vice

NEW DELHI: The government has
liberalised the arms manufacturing
policy with the aim to boost its 'Make
in India' initiative, doing away with
renewal of licence every five years,
allowing increase in capacity up to 15
per cent without its prior permission
and introducing a one-time licence fee.
The new Arms Rules, which came
into effect last week, also give a blanket
permission for manufacturers to supply
arms to state or central government
without seeking prior approval from
the Union Home Ministry, an official
statement said here today.
The move, which is aimed at
encouraging investment in the
manufacturing of arms, ammunition
and weapon systems in the country,
is also expected to generate more
employment in this field, it said.
Goan Lads Record New Spider Species
PANAJI: Meotipa sahyadri, a spider
species recorded from the Western
Ghats and found mostly in the forest
areas of Goa's hinterland, but new to
science, has been collected by Goan
student Dhiraj Halali and documented
by Siddharth Kulkarni and other
researchers.
It was Kulkarni who first spotted
the spider while he was a student at
Yeshwantrao Chavan (YC) Institute in
2012 at Satara, and started studying it.
The mystery around this undocumented
species which belongs to the Theridiidae
family of spiders, subsequently aroused

in the Sahyadris, the Western Ghat

"Given the small size of these spiders,
particularly males, we conducted
scanning electron microscopy to reveal
the structures of the reproductive
organs," Kulkarni told TOI.

Six New Trains,
Releases New
Timetable Today
The Indian Railways will follow
the newly released timetable today
onwards. It also introduced six new
trains under the Tejas, Humsafar, and
Antyodaya to enhance the frequency
of the trains, as announced by the
Railway Ministry on Monday.
Under the new schedule, the Tejas
will run six days a week between New
Delhi and Chandigarh; there will be
a weekly Humsafar express between
Sealdah and Jammu Tawi and a triweekly
Humsafar express between
Allahabad and Anand Vihar. A weekly
Antyodaya express will run on routes
between Bilaspur-Ferozepur and
Darbhanga- Jalandhar.
The Indian Railways will also
enhance the frequency of train
12595/12596 and 12571/12572
Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar Humsafar
expresses to thrice and four times a
week respectively. Besides upgrading
several trains to superfast trains, the
Indian Railways has also increased

November 6, the first edition of Goa
Affordable Art Fest (GAAF) is being
organised from Dec 17, 2017 to Feb 28,
2018, at it's premises in Pilerne.
MOG's directors, Subodh Kerkar and
Siddharth Kerkar told reporters that
GAAF will be inaugurated by Padma
Shree awardee Amitav Ghosh on
December 17 at 6pm.

audience. GAAF-17 is a collateral
event of the popular Serendipity Arts

Lord Buddha's Relic To Put
Arunachal Pradesh Monastery
On World Buddhist Tourist Map
Lord Buddha's relic from Thailand to the Kongmu Kham or Golden Pagoda has put
this monastery in Arunachal Pradesh on the world Buddhist tourism map.
The Golden Pagoda is located in the
Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The district was formed in 2015 and is
the nascent district of the State. The
district is inhabited mainly by the Tai
Khamti indigenous people.
The relic was handed over by the
Sangharaja of Thailand to the
monastery on Monday. Thousands
witnessed the ceremony. A 13 member
Thai delegation had brought the relic to
India. Incidentally Sangharaja or the
Supreme Patriarch is the head of the
Buddhist monks in Thailand.
"The relic housed in the picturesque
Kongmu Kham will definitely result
in tourists specially Buddhists
from all over the world visiting the
monastery. It will further ties with
South East Asian countries" stated
Chowna Mein, Deputy Chief Minister,
Arunachal Pradesh. Incidentally the
State Government has been focusing
on tourism in the eastern part of the
State.
Arunachal Pradesh has 12 tourist
circuits across an area of 83,500 sq km.
The Golden pagoda falls under the
Tinsukhia-Tezu-Hayuliang circuit.
The Union Government has also
launched a Look East Policy of which
tourism is an important component.
The relic was enshrined in the Golden
Pagoda. The enshrining of the relic

Golden Pagoda is built on the lines
of Burmese architectural design. It is
spread over 20 hectares. The Kongmu
Kham boasts of an eco tourism

restaurant, an administrative block
and an administrative block.
The State had received over 3.5 lakh
domestic and foreign tourists in 2016.
"This curated festival will exhibit
over a thousand paintings, sculptures,
photographs and prints from all
over the country and abroad. All
these works will be priced within an
affordable range of Rs 3,000 to Rs 1
lakh. Since our objective is to enthuse
the general public to appreciate,

First Rainbow
Pride Walk in
Panaji, Goa
Goa witnessed its first rainbow
pride walk last week in Panaji. The
walk was held for the first time in
the state and was attended by the
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
(LGBT) community in Goa. The
LGBT community took to the streets,
commencing the walk from the old
Secretariat building till Miramar beach.
The members of the LGBT community
face a lot of criticism in the society
are subjected to lot of discrimination,
without realising that even they have
right to the part of the so called society
and live freely. Dias said, “The walk
gave closeted members of the LGBT
community an opportunity to come out
in the open and speak out about their
sexual orientation. People should know
about the LGBT community here so
that they can extend their support, care
and love to them”.
The organising group will fight for
equal rights for the LGBT community
and bust various myths about them that
are commonly spread. Also discussion
about article 377 shall be done.
The rainbow pride walks started
about a decade ago with only 10
members and now witnesses the
participation of over 5000 members.

'T' For Transgender
In Railway

Transgenders will now have the
option of identifying themselves as
the third gender with the Railway
Board modifying reservation forms
to provide the option ‘T’, besides ‘M’
(male) and ‘F’ (female).

zonal railways has said that ticket
booking and cancellation forms will
be modified from the current option of
‘Transgender (Male/Female)’ to just ‘T’

CHICAGO: Scientists are altering a
powerful gene-editing technology in
hopes of one-day fighting diseases
without making permanent changes
to people’s DNA. The trick: Edit RNA
instead, the messenger that carries a
gene’s instructions.
“If you edit RNA, you can have a
reversible therapy,” important in case
of side effects, said Feng Zhang of the
Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard,
a gene-editing pioneer whose team
reported the new twist Wednesday in
the journal Science.
A genome-editing technique called
CRISPR has revolutionized scientific
research. It’s a biological cut-andpaste
tool that lets researchers spot a
gene defect inside living cells and use
molecular “scissors” to snip that spot,

Samsung has just announced its newest
convertible laptop 'Notebook 9 Pro'
at the ongoing Computex 2017 show
in Taipei. The laptop is touted to be
the upgraded variant of Notebook 9
series, with a 360-degree hinge and an
integrated S-Pen stylus.
The Notebook 9 Pro can be
interchangeably used as a laptop or
tablet. The main USP of the Pro laptop
is undoubtedly its S Pen device which is
capable of performing precision oriented
tasks like creative drawing and shading.
The S Pen can also support tilt function
akin to Microsoft's Surface Pen and it
works just fine with Windows Ink.
The smaller 13.3in model will come
with 8GB RAM while the larger 15.5in
model features 16GB RAM and AMD

arriving at Churchgate station on
Sunday were in awe after spotting the
art work of Mahatma Gandhi and a
glimpse of their life line, a local train
on the station building.
Hundreds of commuters were caught
unaware and gathered at the station to
click pictures of the magnificent mural
art work adorned by a Brazilian artist
Eduardo Kobra. The mural art form is
an initiative by the NGO St+art India
Foundation. On Sunday, the taxi drivers
who had parked their taxi outside the
station premises were seen guiding the
passersby to a specific spot to click the
