WILDLIFE REFUGE -
BEHIND THE SCENES TOUR!

1:00 p.m.; Sunday, November 19th
@ 1:00 p.m.; Saturday, November
25th @ 9:30 a.m.; and Sunday,
November 26th @ 1:00 p.m.
Join a refuge ranger for a behind
the scenes tour of Parker River
National Wildlife Refuge. Tour will
be conducted via refuge van, with
several brief “drive by” stops along
the way. The tour will present an
“up close and personal” look at the
refuge through the multiple lenses
of the cultural history of Plum
Island and the Great Marsh, native
wildlife and their habitats, and
the role of refuge management in
the conservation of these precious
natural resources. Participants may
be driven along areas on the refuge
otherwise closed to the public.
This guided two hour program is
most appropriate for older teens
and adults. Binoculars and/or a
camera are recommended, but not
required. Meet the ranger in the
lobby of the refuge visitor center
15 minutes prior to the program
start time. Each session is limited
to 14 participants; no more than
4 individuals per sign-up. Again,
this is a vehicle – based tour,
with limited stops on the refuge.
Advance registration is required
for this program, as enrollment is
limited. Be advised that individual
tours may be subject to cancellation.

ANNUAL HOLIDAY FINE
ARTS & CRAFT SHOW
Seacoast Artisans Annual Holiday
Fine Arts & Craft Show to be held
at Great Bay Community College
on the Pease Trade Port. The date
is Saturday November 11th. The
hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
We have some the finest artists
and craftsmen in this area. Lunch
will be served by the Green Bean
Restaurant. NH Child and Family
Services will join us again this year.
They will run Themed Gift Basket
Raffles. Come and start your
holiday shopping with us! We have
something for everyone, young,
old, male, female, pets we have it
all. Everyone will be enter into a
Cash Door Prize Raffle entering
the show. So come shop, rest, eat,
and shop some more! Admission
Adults $5.00, children 13 and
under are free. Plenty of parking,
all Handicap accessible. We have
expanded in to the main part of
the college this year. Come and
support Handmade! Please join

NORTH SHORE READERS
THEATER
The North Shore Readers Theater
Collaborative will present “Cicadas,”
a new play by Kay Ellen Bullard, at
10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the
Actors Studio of Newburyport, 50
Water St., The Tannery, Mill #1,
Suite #5, Newburyport. Directed
by Sherry Bonder, the story takes
place during a blistering heat
wave and cicada outbreak. Maggie
Rivers, 63, returns after 50 years
to her tiny childhood home in
equally tiny Cedar Bluff, Missouri,
on the eve of its manmade
flooding. Encountering officer
Jo Peace, a cat-and-mouse game
ensues. A talkback session with the
playwright immediately follows.

Saturday, November 11th at
1:30 p.m. - “Chased by the Light:
A Photographic Journey with Jim
Brandenburg, tells the story of how
one of the world’s greatest nature
photographers immersed himself
in a Zen-like exploration of his
craft and the untamed landscape
of the rugged north woods. For
90 days, Brandenburg took only
a single picture each day - one
click of the shutter. The stunning
images generated unprecedented
reader interest as a National
Geographic magazine cover story
and as the best-selling book of
his career. Undertaken at the
pinnacle of Brandenburg s career,
the 90-day project was motivated
by his desperate need to renew
his creativity and reconnect with
natural settings that had been the
primary sources of his inspiration.
Chased by the Light documentary
has won over 15 international
awards and has been nominated
for an Emmy.” This free public
program will occur during the
regular monthly meeting of the
Photographic Society of Parker
River NWR. The Society welcomes
anyone who has an interest in nature,
wildlife, and/or photography -
whether you are a total novice or
earn a living by taking pictures!
The club meets every month,
generally on the second Saturday
afternoon. Club activities include
special presentations, slide shows
(of members’ work), intra-club
mentoring and training, photo
shoots, on-line photo sharing,
and involvement in the refuge’s
various photography-related
programs, events, and outreach
activities. The program will take
place in the refuge visitor center’s
auditorium. Capacity is limited
to 85 attendees (first-come, firstserved).
Admission is free and
preregistration is NOT required.
