Occupational health & safety statement<br />
<strong>Monash</strong> <strong>Health</strong> is committed to providing a safe and healthy<br />
working environment for our employees, contractors, volunteers<br />
and the public and we take all reasonable steps to control<br />
hazards and minimise risk of injury.<br />
This year we have focused on compliance and consistency<br />
through the review and update of our Occupational <strong>Health</strong><br />
and Safety (OHS) Management System documentation to<br />
ensure compliance to AS4801 Australian Standard for OHS<br />
Management Systems.<br />
<strong>Monash</strong> <strong>Health</strong> has continued with a proactive approach to<br />
occupational health and safety focussing on positive indicators<br />
and working closely with WorkSafe on Occupational Violence<br />
and Aggression (OVA) by developing an OVA Strategy and Plan.<br />
We are continuing our commitment to conducting safety<br />
inspections with participation from <strong>Health</strong> and Safety<br />
Representatives (HSRs) and management to ensure consultation<br />
and engagement at all levels of <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>Health</strong>. All new initiatives<br />
seek to ensure <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>Health</strong> continuously improves<br />
occupational health and safety performance.<br />

Definitions<br />
For the purposes of the statistics the following definitions apply:<br />
Occupational violence – any incident where an employee is abused,<br />
threatened or assaulted in circumstances arising out of, or in the course<br />
of their employment;<br />
Incident – an event or circumstance that could have resulted in, or<br />
did result in, harm to an employee. Incidents of all severity ratings<br />
must be included. Code Grey reporting is not included, however, if an<br />
incident occurs during the course of a planned or unplanned Code Grey,<br />
the incident must be included;<br />
Accepted WorkCover claims – Accepted WorkCover claims that were<br />
lodged in 2016-17;<br />
Lost time – defined as greater than one day;<br />
Injury, illness or condition – This includes all reported harm as a result<br />
of the incident, regardless of whether the employee required time off<br />
work or submitted a claim.<br />
