From our Head Student
Ready for Diwali!
October has been a quiet month in school,
mostly because we have been on half term
break, which I’m sure everyone enjoyed. Although
we haven’t been in school much this
month we have still managed to collect a
spectacular amount of rice for the Hand to
Hand foundation, which year 6 took to them
on Thursday October 12.
Moving onto the eventful month we have
ahead of us. The prefects and the school
committees have been busy organising many
different events and activities which the students
of GIS can take part in.
Our services prefect, Mara, has been extremely
busy organising Hallowe’en for primary,
which will take place during the afternoon
of October 31. Alongside Halloween, our Creativity
prefect, Erica and our Activities prefect,
Rachel have been busy organising a
Cultural Significance talent show with the
Languages department which will be taking
place on the afternoon of November 1.
We are also celebrating the traditional Thai
festival, Loy Krathong on Friday November 3,
where we will be making Krathongs and
watching traditional Thai performances - performed
by our students at GIS.
Anjali, our Languages prefect has been busy
organising the traditional Indian festival, Diwali,
with our Sciences prefect Khushi and
classmate, Vamsi. Diwali will take place on
the evening of November 7. The performances
are done by our students and teachers.
We will also be treated with some Indian cuisine
which will be sold by the parents who
have volunteered to make food for our Diwali
celebration.
Head Student Rachel
Our Humanities department will
also be taking some students on
a history trip to Kanchanaburi to
watch the Remembrance Day
parade at the graveyard. There
will also be an assembly which
will take place in honour of
Remembrance Day on November
10. We will also be collecting
donations for the poppy appeal
during the month of November up
until November 11.
POPPY
APPEAL IS
HERE
Our annual Poppy Appeal is
underway.
The appeal, which raises
money for veterans of
armed conflicts and their
families, is held each year
ahead of Remembrance
Day. Poppies, wristbands,
rulers and fridge magnets
are now available from the
Front Office and around
school.
Members of the local Royal
British Legion branch spoke
to Secondary students to
explain the meaning of the
appeal. A per centage of
funds raised goes to help
Thai families.
