Week 12 - Monday 29th October to Friday 2nd November
Dear Parents, Guardians, Friends and Family,
Today is our first ‘Pyjama Day’ at Garden International School, Bangkok. Just by wearing our
pyjamas we have raised over 23,000THB for our ‘Habitat for Humanity’ house building
project. This money will pay for materials for our older students to help build houses for
people in Thailand who need somewhere suitable and safe to live. This is part of our school's
commitment to a broad education programme. It is not enough to just to focus on academics,
our students also need to learn about the world in which they live and how they can contribute
to make it a better place. Below are a few pictures from the Pyjama Day.
Campus Security & Safety
You may have noticed that we have employed new security guards this week. This is part of
our ongoing plan to make sure our school is fully secure. Over the next few weeks we will
also be trialling some new initiatives at the end of the school day to see if we can make the
car park at Upper School a safer and faster moving place!
School Fayre - Saturday 17th November
This years fayre is shaping up to be our best one so far. We have some brilliant food and
entertainment stalls lined up, as well as student performances and the famous raffle! Gates
open at 10am and we look forward to seeing you all there. Please invite friends and family.
● Students will be bringing home raffle tickets. Please return these as soon as possible
with the money.
● If parents would like to make donations to the raffle prizes, it would be greatly
appreciated.
● If you have second hand books you’d like to donate to one of the stalls at the fayre
please contact our Librarian, Miss Ritu.
They’re Live Wires in Year 4
It was literally a hair-raising experience in Year 4 this week. Secondary science teacher, Mr
Hartfield, kindly brought along lots of wonderful equipment to demonstrate the power of
electricity. The children used the muscle power in their arms to generate enough electricity to
power a light bulb. They also witnessed their friend’s hair ‘standing on end’ when they
touched the Van der Graaf Generator. Thank you Mr Hartfield for helping to bring the magic
of science into the Primary classroom.
Emergency First Response Club
We have nearly completed the first aid course, but there are still a few skills to complete. This
week we focused on how to use splints and bandages for suspected broken bones and care
for someone with a snake bite.
Art Space in Secondary
The Art Space students have finally completed their creative doodle boards which are now
displayed on the stairs in Secondary. Come by and see them for yourself.
Foundation Stage Workshop & Open Morning
Year 8 - Hot or Not in Science
This week Year 8's have been experimenting with the absorption of heat. They found that the
(vanilla) ice cream stayed cold because it is white and the darker jam absorbed more
microwave radiation and so it became hot.
