Damco launches<br />
digital freight forwarder<br />

Damco has unveiled its in-house ‘digital freight forwarder’.<br />
The solution enables customers to book, manage and monitor<br />
shipments online at the click of a button, focusing on four key<br />
features: Instant quotation; Integrated document handling;<br />
Milestone transparency; and Proactive exception management.<br />
Initially focused on managing ocean shipments within the China to<br />
UK trade lane, Damco said the company would grow by adding more<br />
shipping routes and products over the coming months.<br />
Although the company was initially only taking on full container load<br />
business, arguably the most easily standardised part of freight<br />
forwarding, it would, in due course, take on the more complex<br />
challenges of freight forwarding, such as less-than-container load<br />
(LCL) and air freight. It was expected to initially serve smaller and<br />
more transactional customers that larger freight forwarders are<br />
sometimes less able to easily service, before scaling up to larger<br />
accounts.
