A «harbour» as a contact point for health problems and as hope for
recovery became the overriding theme for the redesign of the
playground in the Protestant hospital Königin Elisabeth Herzberge
in Berlin. The new playground offers attractive movement and play
possibilities to the patients of the paediatric epileptology as well as
their family members and other visitors. A multifunctional playground
has been developed for the approx. 200 m² sand playground.
A walkway system with a sand table that can be moved underneath
and a railing made of various haptic materials leads to the warehouses
of the harbour. These offer space for role-playing and sense
games. A playhouse also serves as a lockable shed for the mobile toy.
The sand can be transported from the jetty to a small sand boat by
means of a sand conveyor belt. In addition to this small boat, a large
ship also sails to the harbour. The rear of the car can also be accessed
by wheelchair. Here, the world outside the ship can be observed
through a periscope. The seating areas also offer space for wheelchair
users and the rocking bed can also be easily reached from the path
with simple assistance.
