The Programme Editor A warm welcome to Haringey Borough for their first ever visit to our ground. I hope you enjoy the programme and especially the article about the unknown soldier which I have put in for Remembrance Day. Well I’m still getting over the Tuesday night game. As Tony Rickson was attending a Teynham parish meeting I had the (misfortune) to do the match report which you can read further on in this programme. I was shocked that a Ray Turner / Clive Walker team could play like that and even more shocked that the referee let them, and the abuse by one of their players in particular at the end of the game should have been reported by the ref but I don’t believe that it was. I believe that if he had clamped down on their constant going through players and niggling fouls early on then the result would have been so different. Still, as they say, no point in crying over spilt milk so lets hope that todays game will be a real footballing game and that we play like we all know the team can. Now news of one of our past players, Chris Regis (Picture right) who some of you may remember. The local Stoke newspaper reported “Port Vale have signed former Colchester United midfielder Chris Regis in time for tonight’s game (7/11/2017) at home to Crewe in the Checkatrade Trophy. The 20 year old was in the academy at Southampton before joining Colchester United in August 2015. He was a regular for the Essex Club’s under-23s and signed a new one-year contract in the summer of 2016. However, he was released by mutual consent in January so he could look for regular first team football. He joined Sittingbourne in March. Their manager Nick Davis described him as a powerful, 6ft 3in midfielder who is good on the ball. Chris got off to a flying start by scoring.” I see that Dulwich Hamlet are in danger of folding as the grounds owners are stopping paying a reported £170,000 a year. That would fund us for about 3 years !! So they couldn't have been very frugal with the money. Still it would be sad to see them go if that’s what happens. Dulwich have one of the narrowest turnstiles I have ever seen, I’m sylph like! but even I had to go sideways through it. I’m old enough to remember the old Champion Hill from my days of watching Hampton (now Hampton & Richmond) play there in the London Senior Cup. There was a huge towering stand of the sort that you often see in old photographs of men in flat caps! It was quite eerie when there was a crowd of barely 200. The London senior Cup was second only to the FA amateur cup in those days (1960’s).Talking of the FA amateur cup I cant believe that the FA trophy took over from it <strong>full</strong>y 43 years ago although the FA trophy actually began life for the senior semi professional sides in the 1969 / 70 season. I was a regular at the FA Amateur cup finals held at the old Wembley and well remember being shown an FA Amateur Cup winners medal 51 years ago! by a Wealdstone Player, Jim Cooley, who I worked with.
