ABOUT THIS DECOY Clarence Lewis (1914-1992) of Stacy, NC was a well-known carver, making working decoys and selling from his home long before the current decoy-rage brought about by the Core Sound Decoy Festival and all the work of the past few decades. This decoy is from his hunting rig and is in original paint, displaying his carved initials indicating it was from his rig. This is an important piece of Core Sound decoy history. Thanks to the generosity and foresight of collectors Purcell Jones and Don Walston, a pair of pintails by Clarence Lewis were the first decoys to be acquisitioned for the Core Sound Museum’s permanent collection. He has built one of the finest comprehensive NC decoy collections known. He currently serves the Carolina Decoy Collectors Association as an officer. His leadership there has enabled this association to partner with the Decoy Carvers Guild and Core Sound Museum in a successful effort to promote NC decoy collecting.
CLARENCE LEWIS CANVAS CANADA GOOSE LOT NO. <strong>11</strong> ABOUT THIS DECOY This canvas-over-wire goose decoy by Clarence Lewis was used in the rig of Sterling Fulcher as noted by the “SF” initials carved on the bottom. This decoy still has its original paint and is a fine example of Core Sound working decoys.
