NEWBURYPORT - Cantemus Chamber Chorus Sings in the Season -
Cantemus Chamber Chorus’s winter program, Psalmists and Seers, reveals
the solemn splendor and holy excitement of the holiday season, with
Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms at its center. Its colorful Hebrew poetry and
zigzagging rhythms proclaim the greatness of the season. The Midwife’s
Tale, a Christmas cantata by Cambridge composer James Woodman,
reflects in sonorous medieval poetry the mystery and awe of the Nativity.
Other pieces on the program set the scene for a melodious, enchanting
and heart-stirring season of true joy. The final piece, Lauridsen’s prayerful
setting of James Agee’s poem Sure on This Shining Night, shimmers with
the essence of tranquility and peace. Harp and percussion accompany the
chorus, and a reception follows the concert. Tickets: adults, $25; seniors,
