MilkyWay – Project<br />

Enabler<br />

To aid in the continuous improvement and<br />

management of its Quality Management System,<br />

DSM has developed its own workflow management<br />

system called, “MilkyWay”, which is used for the<br />

management, reporting and tracking of the majority<br />

of its projects. This allows clients and partners real<br />

time access to the status of their project on an hour<br />

by hour basis. Milky Way is the company’s “digital<br />

nervous system” and functions as:<br />

• A project management tool for reporting, tracking and analysing project status<br />

• A tool for drawing up project schedules and allocating work to operators<br />

• An internal communication tool enabling messages to be sent internally.<br />

• A knowledge bank that allows staff to post suggestions for improvement of any<br />

process. These are<br />

assessed and if accepted adopted into our workflow<br />

allowing us to continuously improve<br />

• A time keeping system, by recording all time sheets information (TimSY)<br />

• An intra-office notice board.<br />

• A centralized database for the documentation of all quality control check, forms<br />

and feedback to operators<br />

• A quality assurance tool enabling feedback to the operators in the case of<br />

updates, modifications to methodologies<br />

• A Query Tracking System that enables communication and tracking of technical<br />

of production queries with the client.
