According to The Times of India, a fresh 

round of rate cuts is likely as the GST 

Council, chaired by Finance Minister, 

hinted that only luxury or sin goods are 

going to stay in the top slot. The move 

will be a big relief for consumers who 

might have felt the pinch. 

GST Council may reduce tax on 

consumer durable goods such as 

washing machines and refrigerators 

and home appliances from the current 

28 per cent to 18 per cent. 

Last week, GST rates on restaurants, 

other than those in five-star hotels, 

were slashed from 18% to 5%, although 

the withdrawal of input tax credit 

has prompted many chains to jack up 

prices.

IFFI 2017: SHAH RUKH KHAN 

INAUGURATES THE FESTIVAL 

The 48th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2017) Goa, scheduled to be held 

from November 20 to 28, has a star-studded line-up for the event, which was inaugurated by 

superstar Shah Rukh Khan, while Salman Khan will be present at the closing ceremony.

Crowned Miss World 2017 

India's Manushi Chhillar won the 

coveted Miss World 2017 crown at a 

grand event in China, bringing to an 

end the country's dry spell of 17 years at 

the top pageant contest. 

The 20-year-old from Haryana, who 

is a medical student, edged out top five 

contestants from England, France, 

Kenya and Mexico. Chhillar was 

presented the crown by Stephanie Del 

Valle, the last year's Miss World winner 

from Puerto Rico at the event in Sanya 

City Arena in China. 

The first and the second runners-up 

were Miss England Stephanie Hill and 

Miss Mexico Andrea Meza. 

Chhillar is the sixth Indian to win the 

coveted crown, which was first won by 

Reita Faria back in 1966. 

The 48th International Film Festival 

of India kicked off on Monday in Goa. 

Despite several controversies, the IFFI 

2017 inauguration was a star-studded 

affair. Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh 

Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Sridevi, Boney 

Kapoor, A R Rahman, Anupam Kher, 

Jahnvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar 

among others were in attendance. 

The Jab Harry Met Sejal actor who 

inaugurated the festival spoke about how 

India’s rich history has always had a 

culture of storytelling and story-listening. 

Janhvi Kapoor graced the event with 

her parents Sridevi and Boney Kapoor. 

The young star kid will be making her 

debut next year in Dhadak. The film 

is the remake of the national awardwinning 

Marathi film Sairat. She will 

be sharing the screen with Shahid 

Kapoor's brother Ishaan Khatter. 

Bollywood actor Anupam Kher and 

Oscar-winning music composer AR 

Rahman also graced the event. 

Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar 

said the new infrastructure in Goa for 

Iffi will be ready in 2019, in time for 

the 50th edition of the festival. Goa is a 

permanent venue for the festival and is 

hosting it from November 20 to 28. 

The festival opened with screening 

of Majidi's film 'Beyond the Clouds'. 

At the opening ceremony, Majidi said, 

"The film has actually premiered 

in London. But for me, this is the 

premiere of the film, here in India." 

Russia Considering

offer e-visas to Indian tourists travelling 

in a group eyeing to increase quantum

Currently 2,00,000 Russian tourists 

travel to India on an average and 70,000 

Indian tourists travel to Russia on an 

average annually.

people-to-people ties,” pointed the 

visiting Minister who is also visiting 

India with regard to screening of popular 

Russian movies across Indian cities – 

Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Record Tourism 

From India 

Israel, for the second consecutive 

year, has broken its tourism record 

in India along with reaching three 

million tourist arrival mark this year. 

More than 49,000 Indians have already 

visited Israel until October, 2017 

marking a growth of 34 per cent from 

January to October vis-a-vis the same 

period last year, according to statistics 

released by Israel Ministry of Tourism.

custom-made dresses of flowers. 

Many programmes were planned 

to make the starry night to be 

remembered by each present. To 

begin the celebrations, Charizma 

Entertainment presented an enchanting 

LED Moulin Rouge performance. Belly 

dancer Katrin who jammed with the 

best drummer of Goa- Carlos Gonzales, 

foreign dance troupe rocked the show 

with their Bollywood performance. 

The famous group of Goa, “Rise 

Nation Army” was invited to play for 

the event. Staying true to their name, 

Varun Carvalho and Irian Blansh set 

the stage on fire with their music. 

The duo congratulated Ricardo on his 

birthday and extended their warm 

wishes. Reminiscing their band’s long 

relationship with the Tito’s Group, 

Varun said, “Celebrating with the 

legend himself Ricardo De Souza, a man 

who together with his brother David De 

Souza, at the tender age of 18 set about 

building brand Titos that would go on 

to become the No 1 clubbing brand in 

India! Ricky has proved that with hard 

work and vision, anything is possible 

and today is an inspiration to thousands 

of Goans that we can make it bug in our 

land itself”. 

Amongst all the performers on the 

day, music took over everything when 

Kris Kasper played saxophone and gave 

a vocal gift "My way", famous Goan 

singer- Louis and great singer Gilbert. 

The crowd was mesmerized by the 

beautiful melody which added to the joy 

that was in the air that night. Bailadora 

Dance group by Raquel Fernandes 

further added to the fun and frolic and 

forced the guests to put on their dancing 

shoes. The very famous Omaggio 

Performing Company was also invited 

to perform on the day. The girls left 

everyone overjoyed with their acrobatic 

stunts and beautiful music and lighting. 

To bring in some adrenaline to the 

night, a special performance was 

given by the trainer of karate in 

"Titos White House"- Kanan with his 

team of professionals. They showed 

some fighting scenes, high-end fire 

performance and LED equipment 

juggling. Another member of the Tito’s 

group, head of Titos Bar Academy- 

Artiom Klimenko did some crazy 

juggling with glasses, making some 

amazing drinks for the guests. 

The final act was the singing of 

“Happy Birthday” to Ricardo performed 

by Dance-O-Philia Dance group by 

Darryl D'Souza. The group chose Latin 

beats to wind the show up and followed 

it up with some hip Bollywood tunes. 

During the cake cutting ceremony, 

Ricardo thanked everyone for being on 

his special day and gracing him with 

their wishes. He said he was thrilled by 

the fact that everyone took time out of 

their busy lives. In his speech he said, 

“Oh, it was a fantastic birthday party. 

What I liked the most was the love I’ve 

got from everybody. That was amazing 

to know that I have so many friends in 

this world. Truly amazing.” 

On the occasion, Ricardo also 

announced that Tito’s will now also be 

venturing in the philanthropic area by 

creating Tito’s Helping Hands.

on Friday it was banning the sale of 

"smart watches" that can be used by 

these citizens with "finding innovative

Homepod 

Delayed Until 

Next Year 

Apple has delayed the release of its 

HomePod speaker until 2018. In a 

statement to The Verge, Apple says that it 

needs more time to work on the HomePod. 

“We can't wait for people to experience 

HomePod, Apple's breakthrough wireless 

speaker for the home, but we need a 

little more time before it's ready for our 

customers,” an Apple spokesperson said. 

“We'll start shipping in the US, UK and 

Australia in early 2018." 

The speaker was originally set to be 

released in December. Priced at $349, the 

HomePod is slated to take on higher-end 

sound systems like Sonos, as well as smart 

assistants like the Amazon Echo and 

Google Home. 

The cylindrical speaker features a sevenspeaker 

array of tweeters, a four-inch 

subwoofer, and a six-microphone array, 

which puts it right on par spec-wise with 

the best speakers in its price range, but 

where it may fall short is Siri, which 

isn’t really in the same class as Alexa or 

Google Assistant. That challenge is likely 

why Apple’s focus at the launch of the 

HomePod back at WWDC in June was 

music first and smart features second. 

It’s unclear exactly why Apple had to 

push back the release of the HomePod, 

but pulling out of the holiday rush isn’t 

something that any company takes lightly. 

With no firm release date — early 2018 is 

vague at best — it could be a while before 

we actually see the HomePod on sale.

Smartphone maker Xiaomi today said it 

has tied up with Hipad Technology for 

third-party manufacturing of its power 

banks in India. This is the company’s 

third contract-manufacturing unit in 

the country and is located in Noida. It 

has a capacity to make seven power 

banks a minute, Xiaomi India Head 

Manu Jain told reporters here. The 

10,000 mAh Mi Power Bank 2i and 20,000 

mAh Mi Power Bank 2i will be made 

at the facility, he added. Jain did not 

disclose the investment details. Spread 

over 2.3 lakh sq ft, the facility will 

initially employ over 500 people and the 

number will be ramped up gradually. 

SWISS-DESIGNED, ALL-ELECTRIC

Samsung Accidentally 

Confirms Galaxy X 

Launch 

Samsung Galaxy X launch appears to 

be imminent now. The South Korean 

technology giant has accidentally 

confirmed the launch of a new 

foldable smartphone. On Samsung’s 

own website (via Mobiel Kopen 

and LetsGoDigital), a support page 

has confirmed that the Galaxy X 

smartphone exists. The support page 

is for a smartphone with the model 

number ‘SM-G888NO’. The support 

page on Samsung does not reveal 

much about what the SM-G999NO 

actually is. 

Based on patents filed by Samsung 

around a new device, the Galaxy X is 

a clam-shell smartphone. The images 

revealed in the patents show that 

there will be a hinge at the middle of 

the device which will enable users 

to fold the Galaxy X in one direction. 

Samsung mobile head DJ Koh had 

earlier acknowledged the presence of 

the Galaxy X and had informed that 

the phone could see a possible launch 

next year.

Beyoncé has dethroned Taylor Swift as 

the highest-paid woman in music. 

According to Forbes, Bey earned $105 

million from June 2016 to June 2017, 

nearly doubling what she reportedly 

earned in the previous year. The 

substantial boost was a result of her 

critically acclaimed hit album 

Lemonade, as well as the

Achievement Award to Canadian 

Filmmaker Atom Egoyan at its 48th 

edition in Goa. An accomplished 

Director, Writer and Producer, Egoyan 

has made a mark in the mainstream 

and alternate cinema all over the 

world. His work is often credited for 

exploring different themes that carry a 

rich amount of emotions and effective 

use of Technology. 

This year, at IFFI 2017, 3 of the 

best films by Atom Egoyan will be 

screened namely ‘Exotica’, ‘The Sweet 

Hereafter’ and ‘Remember’.

of Less Fortunate children 

No commerce, no donates – this was a motto of children charity festival 

that happened last Sunday, the 19th of November, at Tito’s Arena.

No commerce, no donates – this was 

a motto of children charity festival 

that happened last Sunday, the 19th of 

November, at Tito’s Arena. 

The Denneachem fest is the festival 

of giving, which is not very well known 

in Goa, but was made to make people 

aware about these boys who need 

attention and love. The festival was 

organized by all the Well wishers of St 

Joseph Boys Home and with the help 

of silent people- Fabiano De Souza and 

Marius Fernandes, who does a lot of 

charitable work for society. 

The mission of the festival was to 

encourage less fortunate children 

without parents. There was a charity 

market at the festival, where every 

guest could buy a beautiful paint 

of Sadhana or handmade ghumats, 

daggas, tasos made by disabled artist. 

There were sections with sculptures 

and face art as well. 

In addition, there were a lot of 

entertainment both for children and 

grownups. For example, they played 

traditional Goan songs in the middle of 

the festival at Tito’s Arena. Spectators 

sang along with the musicians in 

Konkani. The Musicians played on 

traditional Goan ghumats and… 

on the comb. This unusual musical 

instrument is favorite one of O’Luv. He 

told us, that he had played on it ever 

since he was a child. 

Besides other entertainers, there 

was a Show onstage at Tito’s Arena. 

Artists were both children and Adults. 

Spectators loved the unique show 

put up by children, like a young boy 

making a stool fly, Fire-shows and 

jugglers also succeed with people’s 

attention. According to the children 

faces, we could tell they really liked 

the show. Even the grownups were 

involved, every guest tried to catch the 

moment on their phones. 

It was great success with the help of 

so many volonteers and talents who 

gave their time- Cliszma Aniushka 

D'costa, Jill Date Rodrigues, Felly 

Gomes, Carlos Gonsalves, O'luv, 

Socorro- Art and Cultural Assosiation 

and good wishers of St.Joseph school 

and many more Goans.

about this festival: "That day also had 

potential in their lives, they don’t 

need to depend on everybody. They 

themselves have the power to change 

their lives. Of course I’m sure we were 

there to help but really it’s up to them".

Malcolm Young 

Dies At 64 

NEW YORK -- Malcolm Young, the 

rhythm guitarist and guiding force 

behind the bawdy hard rock band AC/ 

DC who helped create such headbanging 

anthems as "Highway to Hell," 

"Hells Bells" and "Back in Black," has 

died. He was 64. 

AC/DC announced the death Saturday 

on their official Facebook page and 

website. A representative for the band 

confirmed that the posts were true. 

The posts did not say when or where 

Young died, but said the performer had 

been suffering from dementia. He was 

diagnosed in 2014. 

"It is with deepest sorrow that we 

inform you of the death of Malcolm 

Young, beloved husband, father, 

grandfather and brother. Malcolm 

had been suffering from Dementia 

for several years and passed away 

peacefully with his family by his 

bedside," one of the posts read. 

Several musicians also paid their 

respects to Young on social media, 

writing about his influence and impact 

in music.

IAF's C-130J Hercules Sets New World 

Record For Longest Non-Stop Flight 

New Delhi, November 19: The Indian 

Air Force plane C-130J has set a record 

of being the longest flight onboard. 

The Hercules carried out a gruelling 

13-hour 31-minute non-stop flight, 

setting not only an IAF record but also 

globally, the Indian Air Force said in a 

statement. 

“The team got airborne at first light 

on Nov 18 and landed only at 6:31 pm. 

This required great courage, skill and 

strength on part of the team,” IAF 

tweeted. 

The C-130 Hercules is a four-engine 

military transport aircraft designed 

to serve military logistics and is build

The aircraft is also being used as a 

tactical air-lifter by many military 

forces worldwide.
