Commonly referred to as “Botox”, wrinkle-relaxing injections are highly effective treatments to smooth out the lines and wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines and lip lines. Botulinum Toxin is a muscle relaxant that works by blocking nerve impulses to the muscle. It is injected into specific muscles using a fine needle. Does it hurt? No. A very fine needle is used so it is not painful, although you may feel a few small pinpricks. No anaesthetic is required. How long does it take? Around 10 minutes. How long will the treatment last? It will usually take between 2 to 7 days for you to notice a difference, with the full effects seen at around 2 weeks after the treatment. As the weakened muscles recover, the wrinkles will gradually return after 3 to 5 months. Can I go out that evening? Yes, it will be fine to go out but it is recommended that you should have no alcohol for 24 hours. You will also need to avoid the gym and sauna for a day or so. There is a small risk of bruising from the injections. Finally the cost! From £200 Lip Enhancement What does this treatment promise? Lip enhancement using dermal fillers is popular amongst younger patients who wish to increase the volume of their lips, but is also effective in older patients to rehydrate the lips, correct asymmetry, define the lip borders and address “smoker’s lines” or “lipstick bleed lines”. Subtle natural looking lips can be achieved using advanced injection techniques and “trout pouts” can be avoided. Does it hurt? Local anaesthetic cream is used to numb the lips before the treatment and most patients find the procedure comfortable. How long does it take? Around 20 minutes. How long will the treatment last? Lip fillers usually last around 6 to 9 months. Can I go out that evening? It is probably best not to plan a night out too soon after having lip enhancement. Your lips will be a little swollen after the procedure and may well swell up more in the 24 to 48 hours afterwards before settling down over the next few days. Bruising of the lips can also sometimes occur. You will not be able to wear lipstick and should avoid kissing, aspirin and alcohol for 24 hours. Finally the cost! From £200 Liquid Facelift What does this treatment promise? Also known as the “8 Point Lift” or “Non-Surgical Facelift”, the liquid facelift uses dermal fillers at eight specific suggested anatomical points on the face to support the facial structure and create gentle lift to restore a more youthful appearance. It is a bespoke treatment using advanced dermal filler techniques that depends on the skill and artistic eye of the aesthetic practitioner to assess what is required in the individual. Areas that can be addressed include the cheeks, tear trough area, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, chin and sagging jawline. Does it hurt? You may experience a mild stinging sensation but this is lessened by the use of local anaesthetic cream before the procedure. How long does it take? Around 30 minutes. How long will the treatment last? There is no downtime and the results are immediately visible lasting 12 to 18 months. Can I go out that evening? Yes, but you should not wear make-up until the next day and will need to avoid alcohol and aspirin for 24 hours and steer clear of the gym and sauna. There may be some mild pinprick bruising which should settle in a few days. Finally the cost! From £660 Chemical Peels What does this treatment promise? Chemical Peels are a combination of acids which are brushed onto the skin to remove the uppermost damaged skin layers and stimulate growth of new skin cells. They can be used to treat a range of skin conditions such as acne and melasma as well as skin damage caused by the sun such as, fine lines, large pores, dull skin tone and pigmentation, leaving smoother, more even-toned, tighter and brighter-looking skin. There are three types of peel: superficial, medium and deep. Does it hurt? You may feel a stinging or burning sensation when the chemical peel is applied. How long does it take? Around 30 minutes. How long will the treatment last? You will see results after just one chemical peel but your aesthetic practitioner may advise a course of treatments for best results. Can I go out that evening? This will depend on the depth of chemical peel. A light chemical peel will leave your skin radiant and “red carpet ready” for an evening out, but after a deeper peel you will need to factor in a week or so of downtime as your skin will appear red and peel.
