L’ Sirene Boutique Resort

I’ve always been a fan of boutique hotels. Whenever I plan my trips, I always look 

for amazing boutique hotels to stay at. You could say it kind of developed as a 

habit of mine. For me, a good boutique hotel is a destination in its own right. I 

really love how they focus on a theme and how the theme manifests on each 

detail and corner, which makes them really unique. Usually, they only have 10 – 

100 rooms with a specific theme and upscale accommodations.

Recently, Sam Pinto had sent me an invitation to go to Baler to try out her new 

resort. I really haven’t been to Baler yet but discovering it online, I was instantly 

captivated by images and videos of it’s amazing waves, plus my friends told me 

that it’s one of the most famous surfing spots near Metro Manila. Just imagine 

how ecstatic I was to try out a new boutique hotel and at the same time, finally 

get to go to Baler! 

Experiencing L’ Sirene 

At first glimpse, endless arrays of coconut trees are already visible. 

You can already feel that ~Island vibe~ the moment you enter the 

hotel. Besides, it has also kind of a “mermaid-ish” theme. 

During our stay there, I and my friends really enjoyed every second. 

Their wifi is only available in the restaurant area which is a good 

thing because you really get to disconnect with distractions and just 

reconnect with your self or with your family/friends. 

Another reason to love L Sirene is their rooms. Right now they’re 

offering 2 kinds: Deluxe and Super Deluxe rooms. The difference 

between the two is the Super Deluxe room has a connecting door 

specifically designed for big families. I stayed at the Deluxe room 

with my blogger friends. The bed is very relaxing and comfy that the 

moment I actually arrived at my room and decided to try it, I really felt 

sleepy the moment I laid down on the bed lmao. I also find that their 

air conditioning is really good and the nice interiors makes the room 

feel more comfortable. 


Getting to Know L’ Sirene More! 

The dishes from The Hungry Mermaid (The hotel’s restaurant) are 

delicious but I think a little bit of uniqueness in their dishes would be 

nice. Their servings are up to 2 – 4 people which varies depending on 

the dishes you will order. I love how their staff is very accommodating 

since they would always serve water in our rooms. 

Overall, L Sirene really is a nice place and if you like to stay in hotels 

filled with pretty interiors and architecture, L Sirene should in be 

in your ‘go-to’ list. The lot is still very big and spacious so you can 

still expect more from L Sirene. I seriously can’t wait to see the new 

additions to this pretty place. 

Besides being a famous surfing spot, Baler certainly has a 

lot more to offer so don’t be afraid to explore Baler because 

there’s always something new to see and experience and 

staying at L Sirene is one of them!

Three Sisters: 

A Restaurant That 

Feels Like Home 

There are days when you’re stuck between going somewhere out or 

staying at home. Why not do both?

hree Sisters Restaurant quietly sits in the heart of 

TKapitolyo. Just one of those “houses” you pass by 

amidst the sprawling resturants in the vicinity. 

It is a restaurant that feels like home. Its interiors, its 

menu and even the staff feel familiar. It’s like walking 

outside your house, looking for somewhere else to go 

to and ending up finding your way home. Aren’t we all 

just wanted to have a fun night with friends or families 

at home? Three Sisters is the perfect place. 

Its interior is mostly made up of wood panels that 

resemble an old ancestral house with white chairs and 

table spread evenly across the dining hall. On its left 

is a short stairs that remind you of that home you had 

when you were still a kid, which leads you to another 

dining area with a terrace for those who wants to 

have a little piece of the outside world. It has random 

paintings inside, just like what your mother bought 

to hang on your own walls. Surrounded with tall 

windows, you can have a glimpse of what seem-to-be 

is a backyard with a few tables for those who wants a 

more intimate setting. 

The restaurant is filled with retro music which just 

rests your weary body — those kind of music you 

listen to with your parents during Sunday that feels so 

chill and laidback. 

Then we also tried their barbecue that oozes with 

richness. The meat is tender and just rightly done. 

With their homemade sauce dipped into it, I can 

barely resist myself so I grabbed two or more 

sticks. But hey, who is counting anyway? I just had 

a lot of fun munching on it! 

The menu is all about the Filipino flare — our 

cuisine that is rich in robust flavors. One of the 

things we tried is their sought-after pancit. Their 

patrons seem to be crazy about it. And when 

I tried it, I kind of understood why. It has that 

“mom’s cooking” quality to it — made with passion 

and care. With the way the plating is designed to 

the way the chicharon is sprinkled on top of it, 

there’s too much love that you can’t help but love 

it, too. 

Afterwards, the desserts were served. We are 

given halo-halo and leche flan, two of Filipino’s 

dessert staples. Let me start off with the leche 

flan, dripping with sweet sauce around it. You 

know a good leche flan when you can smell that 

enticing aroma even from afar. I started off with a 

spoonful, carving a piece from its side just to try it 

out. It has that homemade recipe feel to it — that 

quintessential “passed down recipe” from a family 

member type of taste. 

The halo-halo is another sure hit off their menu. 

It is filled with layers of beans, garbansos, nata 

and all the things you’re looking for in a halohalo. 

It is definitely a must-eat when in Three 

Sisters. It brings back memories of those summer 

meriendas, with you and your friends eating 

halo-halo to quench that thirst due to the burning 

April sun. 

So whether you’re a Manileno looking for a 

lunchout or a probinsyano that misses your 

hometown dinners, Three Sisters is the best place 

to feel home even when you’re out. Because 

nothing feels better than food made with love.

Geláre: No Other Ice

Drinks are served too! If coffee is your game, Geláre 

offers a robust coffee experience whether hot or cold. 

We got to try their to-die-for Affogato customizable 

with your choice of ice cream flavor. Both of us 

decided to top it with Vanilla Bean though..but next 

time around we will be more creative. 

Ice cream remains to be the most-loved dessert in the 

country, aside from it being a respite from the humid 

weather, this dairy product is simply delicious! 

Speaking of which, we got to visit the Philippine 

flagship of Perth’s most loved dessert café – Geláre 

and fell in love with everything on the menu! 

Topping our list would be their Ice cream in all of 

its 24 flavors (You can actually do a taste test and 

decide on which flavor you want before ordering). 

They offer 24 staple ice cream flavors to choose from 

with notable flavors like: Blueberry Cheesecake, 

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Caramel Brownie 

Fudge, Peanut Butter Cup and Honey Malt. 

Geláre is an Italian word that means “to freeze” or 

“congeal”, which is the final step in the ice cream 

making process. What sets Geláre’s Ice cream apart is 

that they are airless! This in layman term translates to 

“You get pure ice cream sans the air”. 

They also have 5 flavors of Vegan and Halal certified 

ice cream such as Banana Caramel Swirl, Lychee 

Lane Sorbet, Mango Passion Sorbet, Lemon Lime 

Sorbet and hang on matcha lovers out there, they also 

have Matcha Green Tea. 

FYI: Regular ice cream that we grew up with contains 

50% air while famous Gelatos that we have been 

introduced contains only 25% air. 

Next up is their Waffle. Aside from it is freshly-baked 

upon ordering (We went loca upon smelling its fresh 

aroma). Crispy on the outside but undeniably soft on 

the inside. This alone is already heaven when served 

with their buttercream topping. Moreover, you can up 

the ante by going A la mode by going single or double 

scoop (or as many as you want, haha). 

If you have not been swept by the items mentioned 

above, here comes more divine treats as Geláre also 

serves breakfast menu the whole day. 

Other items on the menu which we love to try next 

are their Big Brekkie, Tuna Melt, Fritata and their Egg 

Ben which from surfing the net I learned, have gotten 

great reviews from all over the countries. Geláre at 

present has over 50 branches spread across Australia, 

Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Indonesia. 

On Geláre’s Ice Cream: 

Ralph: I particularly loved their Caramel Brownie 

Fudge which is loaded with chewy brownie bits 

enveloped in the creamy goodness of the ice 

cream. 

Michelle: I went for Honey Malt since I wanted it 

simple. But don’t let it fool you since it is far from 

simple. This flavor will present an extra ordinary 

goodness to ice cream as we know it. 

On Geláre’s Dishes: 

Ralph: I can never get enough of their Sliced 

Beef with Gravy. Thinly sliced sirloin that is 

evenly-flavored with goodness and topped with 

rich gravy. This is served with waffle and corn on 

the side. 

Michelle: The chicken-lover in me decided to 

go for their Buttermilk Chicken and thankfully I 

did since their version is so juicy that’s battered 

and deep fried to perfection. Goes with slices 

Waffle too!

looking young that we tend to jump into buying every 

anti-aging supplements available in the market. 

How to Separate What Works and What Not: 

• Compare and make it a habit to check the label 

of different brands that claims to be offering 

the same product. Some may claim to be more 

affordable but lacks the amount of potency. 

• Read the fine prints and be vigilant on what some 

brands refer to as proprietary blends. More often 

than not, this translates to a weaker potency or a 

lower amount of ingredients used. 

• Price should not be your gauging factor. Don’t fall 

for the lowest price guarantee hype as many of 

the imported brands does not comply with FDA 

and might pose a more serious problem that far

How did you start your showbiz career? 

Actually I was a basketball player when I 

was in Canada but got injured, so I went 

back to Korea to recover. But during my stay 

[in Korea], I’m like “What should I do now?” 

Then I just watched a Hollywood movie with 

Christian Bale and felt inspired to be an actor. 

At that time I feel like “Oh, this is my future”. 

What was your very remarkable role as an 

actor? 

My remarkable role was in “Suspicious Partner 

(2017)”, it’s a Korean rom-com and I was one 

of the supporting roles. My role there was a 

forensic investigator who went missing after 

being falsely incriminated for murder, and that 

was one of my favorite role so far. 

Is being a celebrity affect your travel 

experience? 

Yes, sometimes I got more attention but some 

places I got none. I travel a lot but I don’t have 

much time. When I went to Malaysia, people 

noticed me well so I got more attention, but in 

some places like US or Japan, no one notice 

me. It depends on the country I’m visiting. 


What’s your best travel destination and can 

you tell us more about it? 

My favorite destination is Europe, North 

Europe in particular. I have been in Hungary 

& Czech and that was the best countries I’ve 

been. The atmosphere and the architechture 

there is awesome. 

What are the things you look forward to 

seeing when traveling? 

Actually party place, but I just looking forward 

to just my feeling. It’s just like when I go to 

travel, I’m just leaning to my gut feeling like, “I 

wanna go to US” and I just go there. 

Would you travel with a large group, with a 

special someone or just alone? 

I like to travel with a special someone. Because 

to travel alone feels so lonely for me, right? 

Supposed you get to spend a trip anywhere 

around the world and everything covered for 

a week, where would that destination be? 

It’s kinda hard to choose. I wanna go to Spain, 

Ibiza to be exact. And I just wanna maybe 

party the whole week, because I’ve never been 

to that place and I really wanna go there but 

I don’t have enough time to fly and go alone.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! 

We see houses decorated with Christmas 

ornaments and colorful lights. The climate 

shifts to a cooler temperature and everybody 

seems to be in a great mood. We all know that 

Christmas is the season for giving so we came 

up with a list of tech that would make for a 

great gift. 

This is list is in no particular order. We figured 

that we could kind of separate it into different 

categories. Without further ado, here we go! 

GAMING: 

Nintendo 2DS 

With a lot of consoles being kind of 

pricey, finding an affordable gaming 

system can be tough. However, Nintendo 

has something for gamers. No, it is not 

the Nintendo Switch but it is a portable 

system. Enter the Nintendo 2DS which 

goes for just PHP 6,995. 

The 2DS is a more affordable version of 

the Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL. As the 

name implies, the 3D feature is now out of 

the picture. In addition to that, they went 

away from the clam-shell design that the 

3DS became known for. 

The form factor of the 2DS is surprisingly 

comfortable in the hand. Yes, you cannot 

put it in your pocket but you can still put 

it in your backpack and it will not take 

too much space. It can still also play all 

of the 3DS games (except for the titles 

specifically made for the New 3DS XL).

We see that great phones are becoming

better. Case in point, we have the 

Cloudfone Excite Prime 2 which retails at 

PHP 5,999. It has a solid metal body with 

a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass. It has a 5.5- 

inch HD IPS display that is considered the 

average size for smartphones nowadays. 

It has a 64 Bit MT6737 quad core 

processor that is running at 1.3 Ghz. Along 

with that, it also has 3 GB of RAM with 32 

GB of expandable storage of up to 128 GB 

via a dedicated microSD card slot. The 

battery capacity is pretty impressive as

The camera is one of the main attractions 

here. It has a 13 MP f/2.0 main camera 

with AF, time-lapse and LED flash. It 

also has a portrait mode which blurs the 

background of your subject which is the 

craze in 2017. The front camera has a 

specialized 8 MP sensor with beautify and 

softlight LED flash. 

The rest of the specs are what you can 

expect like WiFi, LTE, Bluetooth, A-GPS 

and dual sim card slots. It is also running 

Android 7.0 Nougat.

volume on a weekend in your room while 

you relax is just awesome. Therefore, you 

would need a great speaker. Meet the 

Tylex DY25 Bluetooth Speaker. 

The Tylex DY25 Bluetooth Speaker is an 

affordable speaker retailing at PHP 1,295. 

It has stereo drivers that deliver great 

warm, full audio. It connects via Bluetooth

Vivo decided to release its smaller brother that 

could level with the success of the V7+, the V7. So 

what is the difference? Not much really but the 

most noticeable is the 5.7 inch FullView display 

along with the PHP 14,990 SRP. 

You heard that right. The Vivo V7 will be going 

for PHP 14,990. It has a 5.7 inch display at 1440 x 

720 HD+ resolution. It still has an aspect ratio of 

18:9 making way for Vivo’s FullView display. It is 

as gorgeous as the V7+’s display but in a slightly 

smaller size. 

Under the hood, it still has the same Snapdragon 

450 processor running at 1.8 Ghz and an Adreno 

506 GPU. While the V7 retained the 4 GB of RAM, 

the internal storage went down to 32 GB of RAM 

from the V7+’s 64 GB. But that is why you call it 

the V7+, besides it still capable of micro SD card 

expansion of up to 256 GB. 

Camera-wise, it is still as impressive as ever. It has 

a 16MP f/2.0 main camera with AF and dual LED 

flash. However, the star of the show is the 24MP 

f/2.0 selfie camera. You will enjoy great selfies 

with the portrait mode and their Face Beauty 7.0 

tech. The front camera can also be used for video 

calls w/ Face Beauty as well. 

The most impressive part of that selfie camera is 

that it can be used for their Face Access feature. 

You can unlock your V7 just by looking at it. It is 

really secure since it cannot be fooled by photos. 

It has a certain algorithm that computes whether 

you are unlocking your phone or not. It also still 

sport the HiFi audio DAC. You can enjoy high 

detail audio when using your headphones. You can 

here every instruments, highs, mids and lows. 

The Vivo V7 is not a step down from the V7+. 

Instead, treat it as a smaller yet capable sibling of 

the V7+.

When everybody else is fixated on their X’s, 

Huawei officially launched the Huawei Mate 10 

and Mate 10 Pro. This is their flagship phablet that 

promises years of top-notch performance. 

The Huawei Mate 10 has a 5.9 inch QHD IPS 

display at 2560 x 1440 resolution. It also has a 

pixel density of 498 ppi and a 2.5D curved glass 

on top of it. Of course there are minimal screen 

bezels here but not quite bezel-less yet. 

It is housing a 64-bit 2.36 Ghz Kirin 970 octacore 

processor. The great thing about this is that 

it utilizes a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which 

handles A.I and/or machine learning. Machine 

learning helps the Mate 10 series learn from your 

habits, help you take the best photos and make 

the overall usage experience faster and better. It is 

also using a Mali-G72MP12 GPU, 4 GB of RAM and 

64 GB of internal storage which is expandable up 

to 256 GB via microSD card. 

The Mate 10, as well as the Mate 10 Pro, has the 

latest dual Leica cameras that is sporting a 20 MP 

f/1.6 monochrome sensor and a 12 MP f/1.6 RGB 

sensor with 4-in-1 Hybrin AF, OIS, 2x zoom and 

dual tone LED flash. The Selfie camera has a single 

8 MP f/2.0 sensor with screen flash. 

It has a big 4000 mAh battery with 5A Super 

Charge capability. It is running Android 8.0 out of 

the box with EMUI 8.0 on top of it. It has LTE Cat 

18 capabilities, NFC, IR Blaster, fingerprint sensor 

and IP53 splash resistance. 

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro has a 6-inch FHD+ OLED 

at 2160 x 1080 resolution. It has a pixel density of 

402 ppi and a 2.5D curved glass as well. 

It is running the same processor and GPU as the 

Mate 10 but it will be rocking a bigger 6 GB RAM 

and 128 GB of internal storage expandable to 256 

GB via micro SD card. 

The other differences that the Mate 10 Pro have 

over the Mate 10 is the IP67 water and dust 

resistance, and the 384K/32 bit HiFi DAC. The rest 

of the specs are practically the same. 

The Huawei Mate 10 is now available for just 

PHP 32,990 while the Mate 10 Pro has no official 

SRP yet. However, the Mate 10 Pro is slated for a 

December release here in the Philippines.

George St. Pierre is one of the most 

decorated UFC fighters of all time. He 

won the Unified Title on April 2008 and 

successfully defended it 9 times. He had 

a dominant championship reign for six 

years where he saw 0 defeats. Then, he 

disappeared from the UFC. 

because he wants to fight. He grew tired 

of the pressure, too much criticism and the 

weight of the world championship. 

GSP took a step back to spend a few years 

with a normal social life. Get away from the 

glitz and glamour. He just needed to take a 

break. 

He announced that he would take a step 

back from the fighting scene even before 

suffering a torn ACL in 2014. He then 

vacated the title and did not return in the 

octagon for years. Fans and experts thought 

that he may be retiring due to the injury. 

However, the real reason he did not come 

back as early as everybody expected is 

because he became burnt out of the sport. 

GSP stated that in his last few fights before 

his hiatus, he was not having fun anymore.

At UFC 217, he booked his comeback fight 

against the UFC Middleweight Champion 

Michael Bisping. At 36 years old, he stood 

his ground his ground against one of the 

stronger champions in the UFC. In the 

end, he made a triumphant return when

Middleweight Championship. 

He stepped back from the game that he 

loved for years to rejuvenate his passion. 

Now GSP believes that he is faster, stronger 

and, most importantly, happier.

since we are Filipinos, as soon as the months 

ended with “ber”, radios start playing timeless 

Christmas classics. However, these 5, in my 

opinion, are the bare essentials when it comes 

to bringing Christmas cheer to my ears. 

“Christmas in Our Hearts” 

by Jose Mari Chan 

The king of OPM Christmas songs, Jose Mari Chan 

delivered this masterpiece in 1990. The soothing 

melody of the song really ignites that little fireplace 

in your hearts. If you hear this during one of your 

commutes or during one of your mom’s early morning 

Christmas jamming session then it is officially the 

holiday season. 

“All I Want for Christmas is You” 

by Mariah Carey 

HEY! You know you love this song! This is Mariah 

Carey at her finest. Well, maybe not. This is such a fun 

and upbeat song that you can’t help but dance into 

it. Since its release in 1994, this has been a staple in 

Christmas parties and balls. 

“Little Drummer Boy” 

by Katherine Davis 

This song was originally released in 1941 but was 

popularized by the Harry Simeone Chorale in 

1958. This song is a fun song to sing and listen to 

with catchy riffs especially singing along with the 

“Parapumpumpum” parts. Pentatonix made a great 

cover of this song in 2014 using mainly their voices 

and beatbox only. 

“Pasko Na Sinta Ko” 

by Gary Valenciano 

This is a great musical representation of how it feels 

to spend Christmas alone. Gary V.’s emotional vocal 

prowess gave this song the right feels that pulls 

the strings of your heart. It is a sad song but this 

is a staple in local radios due to members of SMP, 

“Samahan ng Malamig and Pasko”. 

“Sa Maybahay Ang Aming Bati” 

This is the song that really drives in the fact 

the Christmas season is here. Kids from your 

neighborhood will come out at night with their spoons 

and forks, makeshift drums and tambourines and 

sing their lungs out usually to this tune. This is their 

number one go-to-songs when they and sing carols 

around the neighborhood.
