2017-2018 REGISTRATION
St. Cuthbert Episcopal School’s 2017-2018 registration is underway and
will continue each day during school hours until all of our classes are filled.
We offer 2, 3 or 5 day classes, including a Bridge/Kindergarten class. St.
Cuthbert School enrolls students ages 18 months through 5 years. School
hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 AM to 2 PM and Friday, 9 AM to 12 noon.
Our Bridge/Kindergarten program is designed for children who are
not quite ready for kindergarten. This class allows children to succeed
at learning with greater ease and confidence, by helping them bridge
academic and developmental gaps. The St. Cuthbert School program
provides a loving, Christian environment offering the children weekly
chapel, as well as music and movement, library and computer classes. Our
curriculum includes Handwriting without Tears, Reading A-Z, Math and
Science. The program is open to all children, regardless of race, nationality
or faith. St. Cuthbert School is accredited by the National Association of

CORNERSTONE UMC PRESCHOOL
REGISTRATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Cornerstone United Methodist Church Preschool has been serving the
Copperfield area since 1985. Cornerstone is a State Licensed facility
operating five half days a week. We offer programs for children 18 months
through five-year-old preschoolers. All children are welcome regardless
of race, sex, religion or nationality. CUMC Preschool will be offering tours
every Wednesday at 10 AM beginning January 17 th and continuing
through February 7 th . Join the Preschool directors in the gym where they

ROSEHILL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
We are so thrilled to announce the results of the TAPPS Division
III-District 4 One Act Play Contest, which took place on October 17-
18, 2017 in Huntsville, Texas at the Old Town Theatre. The RCS One
Act team was selected as the District Champion for the fourth year
in a row for their performance of “Sister, Sister.” They advanced to
the One Act Play State Championships on November 6-7, 2017 at
the Cailloux Theater in Kerrville. For the second year in a row, the
entire RCS cast received individual acting awards, which were as
follows:

All Star Cast: Allison Strange, Jacob Filip, Heidi Wellman, & Chloe
Geil
Honorable Mention All Star Cast: Sarrah Estrella & Simon Sexton
Additionally, two of our crew members received “All Star Crew”
honors: Georgia Barnhart & Taylor Medina
Then on November 6-7, 2017, high school drama students (cast
and crew) traveled to Kerrville for the TAPPS Division III State One-
Act Play contest held at the beautiful Callioux Theater. The statelevel
competition was extremely stiff, but the RCS team performed
a stunning and flawless performance of “Sister, Sister.” As a team,
RCS placed fifth in the state. Additionally, the following students
received individual all-state awards:

What a great year we are having here on campus

TRUSTEE POSITIONS 5, 6 AND 7
Three of seven seats on the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District Board of Trustees in
Texas were up for by-district general election on November 7, 2017. All three incumbents filed
for re-election. Position 5 incumbent John Ogletree Jr. and Position 7 incumbent Bob Covey
were unopposed in their re-election bids. Incumbent Don Ryan defeated challenger Natalie
Blasingame for the Position 6 seat.
Overall, the election drew 11,145 votes for Position 5, 12,273 votes for Position 6 and 11,145
votes for Position 7. Early voting accounted for 37.2, 36.4 and 37.4 percent of the ballots cast in
each of the three respective races. Of 304,088 registered voters within CFISD, 4.43 percent cast
ballots in the election.
The elected candidates to Positions 5, 6 and 7 will be sworn in during a special-called meeting
prior to the December 11 th committee-to-the-whole meeting to serve four-year terms.

COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY
Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through
18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and law. Copper
Creek Meadows Community serves girls in the residence areas for the
elementary schools listed below, as well as the corresponding middle
and high schools. Home schooled and private school students are always

Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting
through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help
our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area
Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5
to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing
units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly.

BOY SCOUT TROOP 3
Boys, are you yearning for exciting outdoor programs that stir your
imagination and interest? How about camping, fishing, canoeing, hiking,
backpacking and off-road biking? Do you want to learn wilderness
survival, cooking, first aid, orienteering and shooting skills? Scouting is
Fun… with a Purpose - where boys grow into men instilled with values
of duty to God and Country, community service, citizenship, leadership
and self-confidence. Troop 3 is a boy-lead troop where the boys plan an
exciting year-round outdoor program. We camp monthly and include
rock climbing, backpacking and canoeing. Troop 3 also participates in a
weeklong winter camp, as well as a weeklong summer camp.

3 at 7:00 PM Monday nights at Richard & Meg Weekley Community

Cub Scouts is a fun way to teach boys about character, respect,
responsibility and many other traits. Pack 164 is a Christian, home school
Cub Scout Pack that services the Greater West Houston/Katy area. Pack
164 promotes service to God, to country and to others. If you are interested

“Joy to the world the Lord has come...” this is the good news
celebrated during the Christmas season by young and old alike.
Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be providing a number
of celebration opportunities during the month of December:
• Sunday, December 3 rd at the 10:45 AM service, the Youth Choir
will be bringing special music while at both the 8:30 and 10:45 AM
services the Chancel Chimes will be performing their Christmas
music. At the 9:35 AM worship service, the Journey Praise Band will
be leading worship with celebrative music. At all three services,
Holy Communion will be celebrated and Dr. Dave Meadows will be
bringing an inspiring Advent message.
• Sunday, December 10 th at 10:45 AM, the Children’s choirs will
be presenting their Christmas Musical entitled: “The King & Me.”
At the 9:35 AM worship service, the Journey Praise Band will be
leading worship with celebrative music. At both the 8:30 and 9:35
AM services, Dr. Dave Meadows will be bringing an inspiring Advent
message.
• Saturday, December 16 th , the Children’s Ministry Team will be
sponsoring a special children’s event, “Breakfast with Santa,” from
9-10:30 AM that will include pictures with Santa, face painting,
donuts, crafts and other family friendly activities.
• Saturday, December 16 th , the Cypress Symphonic Band will
hold its winter concert at 7 PM. Tickets are $6 pre-sale online
(https://cypresssymphonicband.org/tickets/) or $8 at the door.
• Sunday, December 17 th , the Cornerstone Chancel Choir
accompanied by an orchestra will be presenting a special
Christmas music program entitled “Once Upon a Night” at both
the 8:30 and the 10:45 AM services. There will be no worship
service at 9:35 AM but there will be Christian education for all ages
available at 9:30 AM.
• Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24 th , Cornerstone will offer
three morning worship service worship opportunities and one
evening service at 5 PM. The 8:30, 9:35 and 10:45 AM services will
include special music from the Cornerstone Chancel Choir and the
Journey Praise Band as well as an inspirational Christmas message
by Dr. Dave Meadows. The evening worship service at 5 PM will
include the retelling of the “Birth of Christ” through Scripture
readings acted out by children. There will also be the singing of
carols, the celebration of Holy Communion, a “Candle Lighting
Ceremony” with everyone lighting candles during the singing of
“Silent Night” and children will receive a special “Christmas gift”
from the church.
• Sunday, December 31 st , the church will continue the Christmas
celebration. There will be a “Favorite Christmas Hymn” time at the
8:30 and 10:45 AM services. During this time, worshippers will be
given the opportunity to pick and choose their favorite Christmas
hymns from The United Methodist Hymnal to be sung. At the
9:35 AM worship service, the Journey Praise Band will be leading

Do you want your children to become lifelong servants of the Church?
Singing in a children’s choir is a great way to help that. The St.
Elizabeth Ann Seton Schola Cantorum is currently accepting children
Grades 4-12 for its after-school choir program. The choir is responsible
for enriching the Mass on 10:30 on Sundays and rehearses every
Wednesday from 3:45-5 PM. Unique in the area, the choir focuses on
singing music from the rich Catholic tradition, including chant and
polyphony, as well as the finest modern church music. Time is devoted
to building the children’s skills of music reading, vocal technique,
thinking about the words and the structure and meaning of the Mass.

The vision and desire of English Gateway is to assist international families

Morning Bible Study will start a thirteen session study “Meeting Jesus.”
Using Leighton Ford’s study guide “Meeting Jesus,” we will be taking a
fresh look at the Son of God. Using the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and
John, we will be examining our relationship with Jesus and gain a better
understanding of His relevance for us in today’s world. There is no cost for

EPIPHANY BINGO
Epiphany Bingo has been conducting bingo games on the west side since
February 14, 1986. Epiphany conducts their bingo games every Friday night
except holidays. THERE IS NO SMOKING ALLOWED DURING ALL BINGO
GAMES. They have a jackpot game of $750. Maximum prize giveaways
of $2,500, allowed by law, are given away every Bingo Night! They
have security, lighted parking, big screen color monitor, computerized

The annual Adam J. Skinner Memorial Golf Tournament, underwritten by
Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, benefits the Adam J. Skinner
Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation.
Since 1998, the Chamber has contributed more than $104,000 to the
endowment. The event offers golfers the opportunity to network with
other Cy-Fair community members and support a great cause. In order to

Cypress Symphonic Band invites you to attend our first concert of the
season on December 16, 2017, where we will be combining some of
the music that would have been performed in October and traditional
Christmas music. Due to Hurricane Harvey flooding some members
homes, the decision was made to cancel the October concert.
The concert will be held at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 18081
West Road, Houston, TX 77095 and will begin at 7 PM. The theme for this
season is “Monsters, Myths, Legends and Heroes.” The selections for this
concert will be “A Most Wonderful Christmas,” “Selections from ‘Wicked,’
“March of the Toys,” “The Anguish of Nosferatu,” “A Mad Russian’s
Christmas,” “Winterfest,” “Sleigh Ride” and the world premieres of “The
Oneiroi - The Thieves of Lost Dreams” and “Vanquish for Band,” two of our
Call for Scores contest winners. We will also hold a Silent Auction during
the concert.

Magical Winter Lights
Through January 2 nd - at the Gulf Greyhound Park. The 2017 festival
will feature seven fascinating themed sections including Magical
Wonderland, Mystical Forest, Santa’s Christmas Village, Mystery of the
East, Dinosaur Land, Landmarks of the World and the festival’s newest
section: The Lone Star State. The Lone Star State section will feature
a few of Texas staples including a 36-foot tall cowboy lantern and a
maze leading to eight Texas icons and buildings. The festival will also
include a Holiday Market Square where guests will have a chance to
explore the festival food court and shopping areas. Guests will have
plenty of photo opportunities with appearances by the Ice Sisters and

Harris County Precinct Three Commissioner Steve Radack has opened the
much anticipated Richard & Meg Weekley Community Center. Located at
8440 Greenhouse Road, the center is now open to the general public for a
variety of programs and activities. The approximately 21,000 square foot
building will serve the community as a center for all ages. Classes and
programs can be viewed at www.pct3.hctx.net. Whether you are looking
for a place to exercise, attend a community event, learn new crafts, play
games or just to meet new friends, Weekley Community Center is sure to
be a place for all!

GET INTO THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT!
Feeling a little bah-humbug? Want to be the Grinch and stay that way?
It is OKAY! Not everyone can get into the holiday mood, but you can at
least try! Here are 10 ways to get into the holiday spirit!
1. Reach out to family and friends. Make phone calls to parents,
siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins, whomever you can reach. Ask how
they’re doing, exchange news and feelings and express your love for
them.
2. Decorate the house. Hang up lights in front of your house, put up
decorations, do everything! Hang wreaths on your front door and put up
flashy lights to show off your spirit! The more decorations you have, the
more festive you’ll feel!
3. Listen to holiday music. Listening to holiday music will pump you
up for the holidays! Play holiday music in the car, at home or just when
you have free time. As you listen, think of all the exciting things that
come with the holidays!
4. Volunteer. You will immediately see, feel and soak in how blessed YOU
ARE.
5. Throw a party! Have a get together with people you haven’t seen in
a long time and express yourself as much as you want. After all, it’s the
holidays, a period of celebration.
6. Go see some holiday lights. If you have nothing better to do, go
to your nearest festival to look at the beautiful holiday lights. During
the nighttime, let yourself be mesmerized by the illuminating lights
wrapped around trees and ornaments.
7. Watch some holiday movies. What better way to get into the holiday
spirit than by watching the classics? If movies don’t cut it or you simply
don’t have the time, take a few minutes to watch some holiday videos.
There are plenty online that will lift your mood and get you all pepped
up for the holidays!
8. Eat seasonal food (with healthy ingredients!) Bake holiday cookies
shaped like turkeys, Christmas trees, Santa, elves, presents, anything!
After all, a baker’s imagination is endless. If you want to be fancier, cook
some holiday food that your parents used to make you.
9. Gift kindness, in all forms. It has become a tradition to buy
presents and gift them to your loved ones during the holiday season.
The holidays are a time of appreciation and love. Don’t forget about
those random acts of kindness to whomever, just because.
10. Have fun! It’s alright if everything isn’t perfect and in fact, that just
proves you’re human. In a couple of years, you’ll all be laughing about
disastrous moments during the holiday season and it’ll all be fine!
