The Hearthstone Garden Club’s Yard of the Month
for November is Roger and Tina Bailey’s at 14810
Avila Bend. The entire front border of the home
meets the fall color challenge, highlighted by an
array of multicolored New Guinea Impatiens and
red roses. These beauties are supported with a
background of Foxtail and spike ferns accented
by a Sego Palm and a Southern Magnolia tree. The
result is an eye-catching fall mulicolor contrast
with the home’s pristeen white brick exterior.

HEARTHSTONE GARDEN CLUB
NEWS DECEMBER 2017
The Hearthstone Garden Club had been very busy since September
preparing for our Fall Plant Sale and 39 th Annual Holiday Auction. We
want to take the time to thank our friends and neighbors who have
supported the garden club and our efforts by purchasing plants
and attending our Holiday Auction. Our plant sale and Auction are
the clubs only fundraisers and our way of raising money for our
neighborhood beautification, scholarships and supporting some of
our local charities. Without your generosity, all of this would not be
possible. Our garden club is fortunate to have such wonderful, caring
and supportive people. Thank you!
A special thank you to Kristen Patterson for all her hard work dealing
with the trials and tribulations of a plant sale. Kristen worked very hard
putting this sale on for our friends and neighbors. Kristen certainly
gives a great deal of time and effort to our club and she is certainly
appreciated. Thank You Kris!
Our Auction this year “Ruby Red Christmas” was a “celebration” of
our upcoming 40 th Anniversary. The Ways and Means Committee and
members worked diligently to provide us with some great auction
items. Thank you to DeeAnn Schunneman and her team for all the
hard work. Our Ways and Means Committee is a wonderful group
of ladies, which work very hard to make our Auction a success. The
Auction was a lovely evening full of fun, excitement, socializing and
the opportunity to obtain some wonderful items donated for our
Live and Silent Auctions. Whether looking for that special item, one
cannot live without or a gift, we usually have something for everyone.
Oh and we cannot forget the “Delicious Homemade Goodies” baked
by our members. Thank you ladies! The Sport Memorabilia, back by
special request and brought to us by Steve Renwick with “Diamonds
in the Rough,” was great! Steve had fabulous authenticated sports
memorabilia for Pro and College sports lovers alike. Whether you
are a baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer or golf fan, there
was something for everyone. The highlight of the Sports Auction was
the highly desired items of our very own World Series Winners, the
Houston Astros players. There are always great items available for just
about any sports fanatics. We hope you were able to get that special
item you wanted, if not, maybe he will return next year.
I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler days we have been experiencing.
The changing of the leaves is just beautiful. This is probably one of the
biggest things I miss about living where there are definite seasons. Fall
is such a beautiful time of the year. The special things, which come
with fall, Thanksgiving and time with family and friends, celebrations,
awesome food and of course, “I ate way too much.” We do hope
everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving!
I just love the scent of pinon and firewood in the air this time of year.
The scent of cinnamon and spice going in and out of stores, as people
shop and prepare for the coming Holidays. Decorations popping up
in stores and neighborhoods. People getting their homes ready for
family, friends and celebrations of the holidays. The excitement of
children as they prepare their Santa List and the much awaited for
“Christmas Break.” Don’t you just love the Holidays?
Speaking of Holidays, the Hearthstone Garden Clubs Yard of the Month
Committee’s annual Christmas judging and selection of the most
beautifully decorated homes, doors and mailboxes is on December

10 th . If you want to be considered, please be ready. There are first,
second and third place winners recognized. I cannot wait to see who our
winners are this year. I love seeing the imagination of our neighbors, as
they light up their yards and homes for Christmas. One of my fondest
childhood memories of Christmas was driving through neighborhoods
with my family looking at all the beautifully decorated homes. Coming
from a middle class family with four children and a stay at home
mother, this was something very special, which I continued with my
own children. Looking at Christmas lights is something I believe most
people enjoy whether it is just the beauty or the special memories and
moments it brings to mind. I encourage you to get out and enjoy the
beauty within our own neighborhood, I believe you will be glad. Get
out and make memories with those you love!
The Hearthstone Garden Club will not have a monthly meeting in
December. We will have our Holiday Party and celebration with our
members. We will resume our monthly meetings on January 16 th in
the ladies locker room at Hearthstone Country Club. Social begins at
6:30 PM followed by our guest speaker and meeting at 7 PM. Our guest
speaker for January will be Wallace Ward presenting “Cactus and
Succulents - BFF’s in the Garden.” Mr. Ward is the previous Director for
Houston Cactus and Succulents Society and the Native Plant Society
of Texas, a retired lawyer and a Prickly Plant Grower extraordinaire.
Cactus and Succulents are such a lovely part of gardening, you will not
want to miss this wonderful speaker. Please plan to join us and bring
your friends. You do not have to be a member of the garden club or
country club to attend.

The Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 5 is now offering a class
on Rape Aggression Defense (RAD). RAD is one of the best women’s
self-defense courses available. It’s a program based on realistic selfdefense
tactics and techniques. It is a comprehensive self-defense
course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk
reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of handson

HEARTHSTONE STREETLIGHTS
The Hearthstone HOA coordinates maintenance of all the streetlights
throughout the community. This includes the “cobra head” lights like
you see along many streets and highways, as well as the decorative
light poles along Huffmeister and in some of the neighborhoods.
Cobra head streetlights need to be reported to CenterPoint, using the
pole number, which is the “address” for the light. It is a six digit number
facing the street. You can report streetlights that are not working or
staying on during the day at http://cnp.centerpointenergy.com/outage
(Google streetlight outage) or give us the pole number and we will do
it for you.
Outages or problems with decorative streetlights should be reported
to PCMI at 281-870-0585. Please note the exact intersection or closest
address. The association has a contractor doing a monthly nighttime
inspection for lights that are out, but if you see a problem, please report
it, so we can achieve our goal to keep all the lights on all the time.

Trash days are Tuesdays and Fridays with recycling pickup on
Fridays. If you have questions, call 281-368-8397.
BOARD MEETING
Board Meetings are now bi-monthly, usually on the 3 rd Wednesday at
7:00 PM. Hearthstone Country Club.
LOST & FOUND PETS IN HEARTHSTONE
Folks in Hearthstone are very helpful in getting lost pets reunited with
their owners, but all dog owners should ensure that there is a tag on
each dog with their name, address and phone number. Local pet stores
have machines that make tags like this while you wait. At least that
would help found dogs get back home quicker and with less trauma.

Please visit the Association’s website. With a more attractive, easy
to use design, the site contains a lot of useful information, including
HOA news, quick reference numbers, free classifieds and a library of
association forms and documents. If you think of anything you would
like added, please let us know. The only thing that has not changed is
the address. It is still at www.hearthstonehoa.org.
HEARTHSTONE HOA EMAIL ALERTS
Just register at the site using “Join our Mailing Lists” on the opening
page. You will be automatically added to the email group.
This group will be used to quickly but sparingly, get information out to
members between newsletters. If you would like these messages sent
to more than one email address, just register again with each address
you want included in the group.
The addresses will not be sold, distributed or used for any purpose
other than association business. Your address will not even be shared
among group members. Messages sent to the group will be limited to
those authorized by the HOA Board of Directors. If you have already
joined the email group, you do not need to do so again.

HEARTHSTONE EXTERIOR MODIFICATIONS
When making any changes to the exterior of your home, please keep
in mind that you must first submit an application and receive written
approval. An application can be obtained by sending a request to
customercare@pcmi-us.com.
The PCMI call center is manned by three people. The main number is
281-870-0585. The hours are 7 AM to 6 PM Monday through Thursday
and 7 AM to 5 PM on Fridays.

SAFETY TIPS - AVOID BEING A VICTIM
1. Call the constable’s office anytime you see a suspicious person and
do not let race, age or gender influence you calling (a suspicious
person is anyone you do not recognize on your street).
2. Call the constable’s office when you see a suspicious vehicle (any
vehicle parked in front of your neighbor’s home or driving around your
street that you don’t recognize).
3. Always keep all your doors and windows locked even when you are
at home.
4. Always keep your overhead garage door in the down position.

5. Remember neighbors looking out for neighbors are how the police
catch the bad guys.
6. Make sure to do a vacation watch whenever you go out of town.
7. If someone comes to your door, always go to the door and
acknowledge that you are there and remember to never open the door
for anyone that you do not know. The bad guys in almost all cases do
not want you to be home. Then always call the constable’s office so
that we can check them out. When they leave your house, they are
going to your neighbors.
8. If you have children that stay at home alone, no matter what their
age, they need to go to the door and have a preplanned story for
whoever is there (my dad is working on the computer, he says to come
back later). Then have them call the constable’s office.
9. Never do business with people you don not know and trust. Never
open the door for solicitors. If no one in the neighborhood buys
anything from them, the companies that they work for will quit
sending them into your subdivision.
10. Always lock your vehicles and never leave anything of value in plain
sight (covering up an item with a jacket doesn’t count).

St. Cuthbert Episcopal School’s 2017-2018 registration is underway and

Cuthbert School enrolls students ages 18 months through 5 years. School

CORNERSTONE UMC PRESCHOOL
REGISTRATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Cornerstone United Methodist Church Preschool has been serving the
Copperfield area since 1985. Cornerstone is a State Licensed facility
operating five half days a week. We offer programs for children 18 months
through five-year-old preschoolers. All children are welcome regardless
of race, sex, religion or nationality. CUMC Preschool will be offering tours
every Wednesday at 10 AM beginning January 17 th and continuing
through February 7 th . Join the Preschool directors in the gym where they
will answer questions and discuss our program (curriculum, activities,
special events, schedules, etc.) with interested families in the community.
Families that attend one of our tours can register before our open family

TEXAS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL JR. HIGH
FOOTBALL CHAMPS
The Texas Christian Jr. High Football Team won their post season Bowl
Game and came home with a huge trophy to show off their hard work. The
team had a great season under the lead of Coach Perry where they truly
learned to gel as a team and play off one another’s strengths. TCS could
not be more proud of our Tigers! Way to work hard & play hard Jr. High!
Congratulations Covenant Academy 8 th & 9 th grade Chess Teams for placing
2 nd & 3 rd (respectively) at the Texas State Grade Level Chess Tournament on
Nov. 4 th .
ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON CATHOLIC SCHOOL
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School honored our military at a Veterans
Day Ceremony on Friday, November 10 th . Scouts of Pack 1283 were in
attendance for the posting of the colors along with guest speaker, retired
Colonel David Ragusa and Veteran parents of our students. We thank COL
Ragusa and all military personnel for sacrificing their personal aspirations
and safety to secure and protect the freedoms of the United States.

What a great year we are having here on campus and we want YOU to join
us! Our students have participated in several events such as See You at
The Pole, band performances at a partner high school, overnight Outdoor
Education at Camp Lone Star, field trips and so much more. With our
smaller class sizes (12-18) and intimate campus, we are able to engage the
whole child, Mind, Body and Spirit.
CYPRESS FALLS SKY DANCERS
HOLIDAY DANCE CLINIC
The Cypress Falls Sky Dancers are hosting a fun Holiday Dance Clinic for
boys and girls age 3- high school. It will be held on Saturday, December
9 th at Cy Falls High School from 9:30 AM-2 PM. There is a show-off
performance in the Auditorium at 1:30 PM. The cost is $40 and includes
a Chick-fil-a lunch. For more information and to register, go to www.

POSITIONS 5, 6 AND 7
Three of seven seats on the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School
District Board of Trustees in Texas were up for by-district general election
on November 7, 2017. All three incumbents filed for re-election. Position
5 incumbent John Ogletree Jr. and Position 7 incumbent Bob Covey
were unopposed in their re-election bids. Incumbent Don Ryan defeated
challenger Natalie Blasingame for the Position 6 seat.
Overall, the election drew 11,145 votes for Position 5, 12,273 votes for
Position 6 and 11,145 votes for Position 7. Early voting accounted for 37.2,
36.4 and 37.4 percent of the ballots cast in each of the three respective
races. Of 304,088 registered voters within CFISD, 4.43 percent cast ballots
in the election.
The elected candidates to Positions 5, 6 and 7 will be sworn in during a
special-called meeting prior to the December 11 th committee-to-thewhole
meeting to serve four-year terms.

COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY
Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through
18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and law. Copper
Creek Meadows Community serves girls in the residence areas for the
elementary schools listed below, as well as the corresponding middle
and high schools. Home schooled and private school students are always

Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5
to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing

BOY SCOUT TROOP 3
Boys, are you yearning for exciting outdoor programs that stir
your imagination and interest? How about camping, fishing,
canoeing, hiking, backpacking and off-road biking? Do you want
to learn wilderness survival, cooking, first aid, orienteering
and shooting skills? Scouting is Fun… with a Purpose - where

Troop 3 is a boy-lead troop where the boys plan an
exciting year-round outdoor program. We camp monthly and
include rock climbing, backpacking and canoeing. Troop 3 also
participates in a weeklong winter camp, as well as a weeklong
summer camp.

special music while at both the 8:30 and 10:45 AM services the Chancel Chimes will

Praise Band will be leading worship with celebrative music. At all three services, Holy
Communion will be celebrated and Dr. Dave Meadows will be bringing an inspiring
Advent message.

• Saturday, December 16 th , the Children’s Ministry Team will be sponsoring a special
children’s event, “Breakfast with Santa,” from 9-10:30 AM that will include pictures
with Santa, face painting, donuts, crafts and other family friendly activities.
• Saturday, December 16 th , the Cypress Symphonic Band will hold its winter concert

• Sunday, December 17 th , the Cornerstone Chancel Choir accompanied by an
orchestra will be presenting a special Christmas music program entitled “Once Upon
a Night” at both the 8:30 and the 10:45 AM services. There will be no worship service
at 9:35 AM but there will be Christian education for all ages available at 9:30 AM.

morning worship service worship opportunities and one evening service
at 5 PM. The 8:30, 9:35 and 10:45 AM services will include special music
from the Cornerstone Chancel Choir and the Journey Praise Band as well

worship service at 5 PM will include the retelling of the “Birth of Christ”
through Scripture readings acted out by children. There will also be the

Night” and children will receive a special “Christmas gift” from the church.
• Sunday, December 31 st , the church will continue the Christmas celebration.
There will be a “Favorite Christmas Hymn” time at the 8:30 and 10:45 AM
services. During this time, worshippers will be given the opportunity to
pick and choose their favorite Christmas hymns from The United Methodist
Hymnal to be sung. At the 9:35 AM worship service, the Journey Praise
Band will be leading the worship with celebrative music. Rev. David Rucker,
Associate Pastor, will be bring an inspiring post-Christmas message.
Everyone is invited to attend these special holiday fellowship and worship
opportunities. Don’t forget, each Sunday we offer Christian Education
Classes for all ages at 9:30 AM In addition, we will have a nursery available

Do you want your children to become lifelong servants of the Church?
Singing in a children’s choir is a great way to help that. The St.
Elizabeth Ann Seton Schola Cantorum is currently accepting children
Grades 4-12 for its after-school choir program. The choir is responsible
for enriching the Mass on 10:30 on Sundays and rehearses every
Wednesday from 3:45-5 PM. Unique in the area, the choir focuses
on singing music from the rich Catholic tradition, including chant
and polyphony, as well as the finest modern church music. Time
is devoted to building the children’s skills of music reading, vocal
technique, thinking about the words and the structure and meaning
of the Mass. Service hours are available for older students. For more

English Gateway is a program designed to teach conversational English.
The vision and desire of English Gateway is to assist international families in
learning and improving English skills to help them live and be successful here

The St. Cuthbert Youth Group is a community of youth and adult volunteers

TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY - Starting January 16 th , the Tuesday
Morning Bible Study will start a thirteen session study “Meeting Jesus.”
Using Leighton Ford’s study guide “Meeting Jesus,” we will be taking a
fresh look at the Son of God. Using the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and
John, we will be examining our relationship with Jesus and gain a better
understanding of His relevance for us in today’s world. There is no cost for
the study. Each week you will receive a printed scripture reference sheet
and the following week’s discussion questions. A schedule of meeting
times will also be provided. We meet at 10 AM in the worship center. If you
require a nursery to attend the study, please call the church office (281-

BOOK OF REVELATION BIBLE STUDY - You are invited to join us at
Cornerstone United Methodist Church for a thirteen week study on the
New Testament book of Revelation at 7-8:15 PM on Tuesdays beginning
September 12 th and ending on December 12 th . We will skip the week of
Thanksgiving. You will need your Bible and the study book. You may register
at the church office, Monday-Thursday from 9 AM-2 PM for $10 (cost of the
book) or you may sign up in the church lobby on Sunday mornings.

EPIPHANY BINGO
Epiphany Bingo has been conducting bingo games on the west side since
February 14, 1986. Epiphany conducts their bingo games every Friday night
except holidays. THERE IS NO SMOKING ALLOWED DURING ALL BINGO
GAMES. They have a jackpot game of $750. Maximum prize giveaways
of $2,500, allowed by law, are given away every Bingo Night! They
have security, lighted parking, big screen color monitor, computerized
bingo equipment, snack bar and large cash prizes. Profits are used for
charitable outreach programs, building expansion, and payment towards
debt. Epiphany Catholic Church conducts its bingo games at the Church
Community Center, 1530 Norwalk Dr. (between Fry and Mason Roads,
south of I-10 behind Nottingham Subdivision) off Highland Knolls every
Friday night. Early bird games begin at 7:30 PM and regular games at

“BINGO” is being played in our Parish Hall every Friday evening except

Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation.
Since 1998, the Chamber has contributed more than $104,000 to the
endowment. The event offers golfers the opportunity to network with
other Cy-Fair community members and support a great cause. In order to
make this event a HUGE success, we rely on donations from members of
the community for our raffle baskets, such as gift cards, items that your

CYPRESS SYMPHONIC BAND
December 16, 2017
Cypress Symphonic Band invites you to attend our first concert of the
season on December 16, 2017, where we will be combining some of
the music that would have been performed in October and traditional
Christmas music. Due to Hurricane Harvey flooding some members
homes, the decision was made to cancel the October concert.
The concert will be held at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 18081
West Road, Houston, TX 77095 and will begin at 7 PM. The theme for this
season is “Monsters, Myths, Legends and Heroes.” The selections for this
concert will be “A Most Wonderful Christmas,” “Selections from ‘Wicked,’
“March of the Toys,” “The Anguish of Nosferatu,” “A Mad Russian’s
Christmas,” “Winterfest,” “Sleigh Ride” and the world premieres of “The
Oneiroi - The Thieves of Lost Dreams” and “Vanquish for Band,” two of our
Call for Scores contest winners. We will also hold a Silent Auction during
the concert.

Led by Artistic Director Dr. Kevin Klotz, the Houston Choral Society (HCS)

much anticipated Richard & Meg Weekley Community Center. Located at
8440 Greenhouse Road, the center is now open to the general public for a
variety of programs and activities. The approximately 21,000 square foot
building will serve the community as a center for all ages. Classes and

GET INTO THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT!
Feeling a little bah-humbug? Want to be the Grinch and stay that
way? It is OKAY! Not everyone can get into the holiday mood, but you
can at least try! Here are 10 ways to get into the holiday spirit!
1. Reach out to family and friends. Make phone calls to parents,
siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins, whomever you can reach. Ask
how they’re doing, exchange news and feelings and express your
love for them.
2. Decorate the house. Hang up lights in front of your house, put
up decorations, do everything! Hang wreaths on your front door and
put up flashy lights to show off your spirit! The more decorations you
have, the more festive you’ll feel!
3. Listen to holiday music. Listening to holiday music will pump
you up for the holidays! Play holiday music in the car, at home or just
when you have free time. As you listen, think of all the exciting things
that come with the holidays!
4. Volunteer. You will immediately see, feel and soak in how blessed
YOU ARE.
5. Throw a party! Have a get together with people you haven’t seen
in a long time and express yourself as much as you want. After all, it’s
the holidays, a period of celebration.
6. Go see some holiday lights. If you have nothing better to do, go
to your nearest festival to look at the beautiful holiday lights. During
the nighttime, let yourself be mesmerized by the illuminating lights
wrapped around trees and ornaments.
7. Watch some holiday movies. What better way to get into the
holiday spirit than by watching the classics? If movies don’t cut it or
you simply don’t have the time, take a few minutes to watch some
holiday videos. There are plenty online that will lift your mood and
get you all pepped up for the holidays!
8. Eat seasonal food (with healthy ingredients!) Bake holiday
cookies shaped like turkeys, Christmas trees, Santa, elves, presents,
anything! After all, a baker’s imagination is endless. If you want to be
fancier, cook some holiday food that your parents used to make you.
9. Gift kindness, in all forms. It has become a tradition to buy
presents and gift them to your loved ones during the holiday season.
The holidays are a time of appreciation and love. Don’t forget about
those random acts of kindness to whomever, just because.
10. Have fun! It’s alright if everything isn’t perfect and in fact, that just
proves you’re human. In a couple of years, you’ll all be laughing about
disastrous moments during the holiday season and it’ll all be fine!

CYPRESS ASSISTANCE MINISTRIES VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
When you volunteer you are giving to your community, but did you
realize volunteering also benefits you as an individual? CAM volunteers
often let us know the fun they are having, the friends they have made
and the fulfillment they receive from helping others.
Cypress Assistance Ministries is a local non-profit organization serving
the Cy-Fair area for over 25 years. CAM offers assistance to those in
need by providing financial assistance, food, clothing, employment
assistance as well as GED & ESL classes. A huge part of this organization
is its volunteers. Currently we are in need of volunteers in many

Memorial Hermann Health System recognizes the vital importance
of volunteers and the newly opened Memorial Hermann Cypress
Hospital is no different. The hospital is now taking applications for
its volunteer program. Volunteer tasks range from working at the
front desk, to nursing unit assistance, helping discharge patients and
much more. Dozens of volunteers have already joined the program,
but there are more spots available. Four-hour volunteer shifts are
available seven days a week from 5 AM to 9 PM. Adults are asked to
complete an application and schedule an interview with the volunteer
