It’s Too High 

NEW DELHI: Soon, airlines may no 

longer be able to impose high ticketcancellation 

charges on flyers. The 

government believes the Rs 3,000 

cancellation fee charged by a few airlines 

on domestic tickets is too high and needs 

to be rolled back. It will soon speak to 

airlines on the issue and ask them to 

reduce the fee to a reasonable amount. 

"We believe cancellation charges are on 

the high side and onerous for passengers. 

The Rs 3,000 fee is in many cases more 

than the price of the ticket itself. These 

cancellation charges need to be brought 

back into balance," aviation minister 

Jayant Sinha told TOI.

World's First Artificial 

Intelligence Politician 

Developed 

Scientists have developed the world’s 

first artificial intelligence politician, 

that can answer a person’s queries 

regarding local issues such as policies 

around housing, education and 

immigration. The virtual politician, 

called SAM, was created by Nick 

Gerritsen, a 49-year-old entrepreneur in 

New Zealand. 

“There is a lot of bias in the ‘analogue’ 

practice of politics right now,” said 

Gerritsen. “There seems to be so much 

existing bias that countries around 

the world seem unable to address 

fundamental and multiple complex 

issues like climate change and equality,” 

he said. 

The AI politician is constantly 

learning to respond to people through 

Facebook Messenger as well as a survey 

on its homepage. While Gerritsen 

acknowledges that humans biases can 

creep into algorithms, he said that he 

does not view bias as just a challenge to 

technology solutions. 

While the system is not perfect, it may 

still help bridge the growing political 

and cultural divide in many countries. 

By late 2020, when New Zealand has its 

next general election, Gerritsen believes 

SAM will be advanced enough to run as a 

candidate. However, it is not legal for AI 

to contest elections. “SAM is an enabler 

and we plan to operate within existing 

legal boundaries,” Gerritsen said.

Campaign at 

Baga Beach 

The Goa tourism has extended its full 

support towards the Baga Beach cleanup 

campaign, Tera Mera Beach. The 

campaign has become a rage on social 

media with thousands of people coming 

out of their homes to support the 

initiative of cleaning the Baga Beach. 

The campaign was initiated by Drishti 

Marine, aiming at cleaning the beaches 

of Calangute, Candolim, Miramar and 

Colva. By an innovative approach to 

spread awareness about keeping the 

beaches clean, music and art is being 

made use of to spread awareness 5:00 

pm to 6:30 pm. 

Michael Lobo, deputy Speaker of Goa 

Legislative Assembly inaugurated the 

campaign and appealed everyone to join 

the 150 days awareness campaign. 

The campaign further sensitize 

tourists to minimize the use of plastic 

waste and glass bottles on the beaches 

which is creating a huge problem in the 

state, polluting beaches and destroying 

the marine eco-systems.

India Bike Week 2017: 

BMW K 1600 B Launched In 

India; Priced At R 29 Lakh 

BMW Motorrad India has expanded 

its line-up with two new motorcycles 

that have been launched at India Bike 

Week 2017. Apart from the R nine T 

Racer, the new BMW K 1600 B Bagger 

has been launched and is priced at R 

29 lakh (ex-showroom). 

The new K 1600 B was launched 

internationally last year and is based 

on the Concept 101 bagger, and is one 

of the few full-sized tourers you can 

get your hands on. 

Power on the BMW K 1600 B comes 

from the 1649 cc in-line six-cylinder 

engine that is tuned to churn out 160 

bhp at 7750 rpm and 175 Nm of peak 

torque at 5250 rpm. The motor is 

paired to a 6-speed transmission. The 

bike uses a 5.7-inch full colour TFT 

instrument console but you do need 

additionally purchase navigation, 

satellite radio and Bluetooth 

connecitivity. 

The bike uses BMW's proprietary 

Duolever and Paralever suspension, 

and braking performance comes from 

dual floating 320 mm front discs with 

four-piston calipers and a single 320 

mm rear disc. 

BMW Motorrad India will be 

bringing the K 1600 B to the country 

as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), like 

its complete range and deliveries will 

commence in the following weeks.

After taking a half-an-hour ride in 

the rear cockpit of India's indigenous 

combat aircraft Tejas, Singapore 

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen on 

Tuesday said that the aircraft was 

"excellent and very impressive". He 

added that while he is not a pilot, 

flying in the plane felt like "riding in a 

car" and that "it was really smooth". 

The Singapore Defence Minister 

is scheduled to meet his Indian 

counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman in 

Delhi on Wednesday. 

36 Year-Old Slice Of Cake From Princess 

Diana's Wedding To Be Auctioned In US 

Princess Diana's popularity has only 

grown over time. This is proved as it 

has been reported that a 36-year-old slice 

cut from the multi-tiered wedding cake 

served at the royal wedding of Princess 

Diana and Prince Charles in 1981 is up 

for auction in the US. 

The item is part of a collection of 

numerous royal photographs, letters 

and other memorabilia that is currently 

up for sale at the US-based auction 

house. Among them is Princess Diana’s 

jewelled evening bag that is expected to 

sell for USD 12,000. Bidding for the items 

will close on December 6, reported PTI. 

The piece of fruitcake that is to 

be auction is currently housed in a 

special box marked on the cover, “CD, 

Buckingham Palace, 29th July 1981,” is 

expected to fetch USD 800. It includes the 

original presentation card, “With best 

wishes from, Their Royal Highnesses, 

The Prince & Princess of Wales.” 

Accompanied by the original mailing 

package, with label issued to “Mrs J L 

Faulkner.” The cake was created and 

baked by David Avery, the head baker at 

the Royal Naval cooking school for the 

wedding that took place on July 29, 1981, 

according to the RR Auctions.

India’s Maiden Mission To Sun 

Scheduled For 2019, Says Isro Chief 

India is all set for the take-off of its 

maiden mission to the Sun by the 

year 2019. Indian Space Research 

Organisation (ISRO) chairman AS 

Kiran Kumar on Monday, during an 

interview at the FICCI at 90 event said, 

“Aditya-L1, India’s maiden mission to 

the Sun, will be launched in 2019”. 

This statement by the ISRO chief 

comes after he was asked about the 

latest space projects. 

While talking about the various 

projects under the umbrella of ISRO,

On A Fix 

On Tuesday, news broke out that 

Apple's latest MacOS High Sierra 

operating system has a major flaw that 

can allow anyone with access to a Mac 

gain root access by simply typing "root" 

as the username. This flaw reportedly 

doesn't even require one to enter a 

password, allowing pretty much anyone 

with malicious intent and zero hacking 

knowledge to get into your Mac. Apple 

acknowledged the reports late Tuesday 

and is working on a software update to 

fix the issue. 

Apple has responded to the reports 

and assures a software fix is on its way, 

Chanrayan and Aditya Aditya-L1 are 

in the study phase.” 

He also said that ISRO has made some 

announcement of opportunities for 

instruments, payloads and then that 

evaluation will go on. He further said, 

“Based on these study phase activities 

we will do the forming up of when we 

will do a next venus or Mars mission or 

an asteroid mission.” He added, “those 

finalisations have to still take place.”

Aditya L-1 scheduled for, he said that it

when people get there they will toast on 

Budweiser…”, the company said in a 

statement this week.

Dream to get to Mars,” said Ricardo 

Marques, Vice President, Budweiser.

The company also plans to send 20 

barley seeds — a core ingredient in 

Budweiser’s recipe — into space. Twenty 

Budweiser barley seeds will be sent to 

the International Space Station (ISS), 

packaged in two Space Tango CubeLabs 

— shoebox-sized facilities that host 

small-scale experiments. 

They will be sent to space on the 

upcoming cargo supply mission SpaceX’s 

CRS-13 scheduled to be launched on 

December 4 from Cape Canaveral Air 

Force Station, Florida. The seeds will 

be in orbit for approximately 30 days 

to see how they react in a microgravity 

environment, before being brought back 

to earth for Budweiser’s innovation team 

to analyse. 

The two barley experiments will focus 

on barley seed exposure and barley 

germination. Not only will the research 

offer insights on steps to creating beer on 

the Red Planet, but it could also provide 

valuable information on the production 

of barley and the larger agricultural 

community here on earth. These 

experiments on the ISS are the first of 

many steps Budweiser will take to reach 

its larger goal of creating a microgravity 

beer for Mars, the statement said.

* Shower time: Limit it from 20 

minutes to 10 minutes in warm water. 

Showering for longer time, leaves your 

skin dehydrated. Hot water removes 

oils faster than warm water. 

* Moisturiser: In winter, skin loses its 

moisture, so it is crucial to maintain 

the moisture balance of the skin. You 

should make sure that you keep your 

moisturiser always handy and use good 

quality creams. 

* Lip scrubs: Lip Scrub by brown sugar 

can be prepared at home conveniently. 

Attractive and natural pink lips can 

be visible through this scrub. Take a 

handful of scrub and dot your lip area 

and start rubbing your lips slowly in 

circular motion so get the dead layer 

removed. After a few minutes, wash 

it away with warm or normal water. 

Complete the look with petroleum jelly 

or lip balm/butter. 

* Hydrating clean-up or facial: Do visit

rejuvenated and fresh. 

* Cleanse: Face foam cleansers work

Gives Jobs To Disabled People 

Dinesh Kumar Thapa, the founder of 

“Yes Helping Hands” told Goan Times, 

how he helps deaf, blind and disabled 

people to make their living and have an 

independent life. “YHH” produces and 

sells handmade clothes from pashmina, 

cashmere, silk and wool. 

GoanTimes: Usually people do charity 

when they feel something about it 

because of their life experience. What 

was your idea to start? 

Dinesh: I had an idea about Yes Helping 

Hands when I lost my life partner. It 

happened about seven years ago. I was 

interested in charity and once I gave 

food and money to a 13-year-old beggar 

deaf boy. Unfortunately, he died soon. 

Then I decided to use my life to make 

a difference in society. I wanted to 

help these disabled people to get their 

independent life. 

GoanTimes: How can disabled people 

get the job in Yes Helping Hands? 

Dinesh: Now we have two places (Nepal 

and India) where we teach disabled 

how to weave. For example, you walk 

and you see somebody disabled. You 

give us know about him and we ask 

him to come with us. Everything is free 

for him: we cook for him, give him an 

accommodation. When he leaves home, 

Yes Helping Hands becomes his second 

home. When he’ll learn weaving, he can 

earn money with us. Usually the tutoring 

takes from six to thirteen months. 

Sometimes our workers don’t want to go 

back to real home again. Because here 

they get many friends, some of them 

get married; get their own families. 

Because here deaf and blind people can 

communicate to each other and get a 

support. There is nobody who ignores 

them. 

GoanTimes: How many people support 

Yes Helping Hands? 

Dinesh: I invested all of my money taken 

from the bank. If you really want to help 

us – please, buy our products. If you buy 

a product, they’ll make a new product 

tomorrow. They are getting more and 

more jobs. That is real help. And that’s 

how we extended so much: we started 

from one store in Nepal. Right now, we 

have 22 stores in Nepal and in India. 

When it comes to celebrities, he notes 

that they like to keep it simple, “Most 

celebrities don’t like anything elaborate 

and like to stick to either names of 

their parents or children because those 

relationships are crucial to them.”
