Obedience and more . . .
Sharon’s current dogs from left: Kenji ( HOF OTCH9 CH Blue Isle Dance the Night Away, UDX3); Echo (OTCH2 CH Willowbrook Time After Time at
Blue Isle, UDX); Tip (Sunfire’s Bettin On Willowbrook, CD); Reno (CH Sunfire’s Dancin Away at Willowbrook, UD); and Spiff (CH Lyric Isle Dancin
at Willowbrook’s Rendezvous, UD)
watching Sharon with her dogs at a show. I asked her about her
warm-up routine at competitions. She said that she arrives one
hour before her ring time and walks her dog around to familiarize
him with the venue. Then she does some random
heeling followed by short dumbbell tosses, glove
turns, and signals with food rewards. Then she
puts him in his crate. About two dogs before her
turn, she gets him out and does some doodles to
get him focused and ready to work. This sounds
like a good plan, but the timing must be precise
as Sharon is always showing multiple dogs,
sometimes as many as four. It is always stressful
to be in a run-off, but can you imagine being in
a run-off for High in Trial against yourself with
another of your dogs?
Sharon’s dogs are usually listed in the Times
in both Finals and Merit. She has achieved many
OTCH titles as well as High In Trial and High
Combined awards both locally and in Nationals
competition. Sharon has several up-and-coming
dogs who are beginning to make their mark in the
obedience ring, so she will be continuing to add
to the obedience history of our Aussies for years
to come.
Sharon’s dogs are handsome boys, but they are far more than
pretty faces, and they certainly are a credit to our breed.
