Real hedonists will appreciate Ibiza most when its beaches are empty, its temperatures pleasantly mild,
its landscape carpeted in green, its flowers in full bloom – and the sun is shining in a bright blue sky, in
stark contrast to other countries where bare trees, grey clouds, rain and snow prevail at this time of year.
During the off-season period, from October to May, the opportunities on Ibiza are infinitely diverse. The
climate serves as the perfect backdrop to all kinds of amazing festivals, major sporting events, culinary
highlights, spa holidays, creative breaks, discovery tours – and all kinds of other activities designed to

The government of Ibiza has created a new internet platform where holidaymakers, islanders and expats
will not only get a taste of the wide variety of things that the island has to offer, but can also plan
their time on the island down to the very last detail.
Take, for example, “Ibiza es Wellness”, which lists everything needed to keep your health, body and
soul in shape. Or “Ibiza Creativa” – a meeting place for explorers and anyone curious to see more of

Ibiza has just launched “Ibiza Creativa”. A new name that will guide
visitors and residents alike to online information about specific
activities on the island, ranging from landscape painting, traditional
and creative handicrafts and music to yoga classes taking
place at spectacular locations across the island, and discovery
tours offering insights into Ibiza’s inland and maritime animal species.
This new concept proves just how much the island has to offer, showing
that its main assets are its unique natural environment, creativity
and cultural diversity. Now you can experience all of these things up
close and in person. Whereas tourism is all too often a drain on local
resources, “Ibiza Creativa” centres its activities on the island’s underlying

2017
Ibiza tour: Once the summer heat is over, Ibiza hosts its big annual road
race: the Ibiza tour will take place from 12th to 15th October for the 15th
year running. During the contest, participants will visit every part of the
island. As well as the pro circuit, there is a second race open to keen

Long-distance and half triathlons: From 20th to 22nd October, the
toughest athletes will be getting together to participate in the island’s
long-distance and half triathlons: a 4-km swim, a 120-km bike race and

race and a 20-km run. The event counts as part of the Spanish championship,

Ibiza trail marathon: Time to get off-road – on foot: the trail running
race, taking place on 29th October, has long been a fixture on the international
scene, and a permanent feature of the competition calendar.

Trail-running ultramarathon: The “hardcore” runners will be congregating

Stunden – Passionierte Biker und die Welt-Elite der Mountainbiker fiebern

durch und um die Insel entgegen. Zum 18. Mal findet der Wettkampf
„Vuelta a Ibiza en BTT“ hier bereits statt. Es warten drei Etappen an

Ruta de la Sal: This regatta – a cruising yacht race – was first established
to pay homage to the route followed by the salt freighters of old.
Today, it is the largest yachting regatta in the Mediterranean, attracting
dedicated (cruising and racing) yachtsmen and women. Now in its 31st
year, the regatta will be taking place from 29th March to 1st April. It will
start off in Barcelona and Dénia. The destination, of course, is Ibiza. A

Mountain bike island circuit race: 1000 available slots had been filled
just two hours after registration had opened: from 30th March to 1st
April, dedicated cyclists and elite mountain bikers alike will be hotly
contesting the race that will take them along challenging tracks and
around the island. This will be the 18th time that the “Vuelta a Ibiza en
BTT” has been held on Ibiza. It consists of three stages – measuring 69
kilometres, 71 kilometres and 50 kilometres, respectively – held over
three days and boasting plenty of uphill and downhill action. A gruelling
contest followed by big parties for competitors: a compelling combination!
All of the places available for the 2017 race were booked out

aus dem Bestreben, den klassischen Ibiza-Käse zu erhalten,
er ist ein lebendiges Stück Geschichte. Dieser Ziegenkäse wird nach
uralter handwerklicher Bauerntradition hergestellt. Die Milch stammt
von Ur-Rassen, die inzwischen vom Aussterben bedroht sind. Die
Produktion erfolgt unter Verwendung eines Labes, das aus Pflanzen
gewonnen wird.
„Queso de Ses Cabretes“ sorgt dafür, dass wir dieses Stück Ibiza-Kultur

As a result, the government of Ibiza has launched a series of
initiatives designed to maintain the island’s priceless – and particularly
flavoursome - traditions.
These are the traditions that underpin Ibiza’s cheeses. Local sheep and
goat milk cheeses are authentic delicacies.
“Queso de Ses Cabretes”, in particular, is one of a kind. Established
thanks to efforts to safeguard Ibiza’s traditional cheeses, it is a living
testament to the island’s history. This goat’s cheese is produced using
a traditional and age-old artisanal method developed by farmers. The
milk comes from an ancient species of goat currently in danger of dying
out. The cheese is produced using a type of rennet derived from plants.
“Queso de Ses Cabretes” guarantees that we can continue to experience
and enjoy this taste of Ibiza’s culture for years to come – saving it
from being relegated to a hazy memory captured in old photographs...

An organic farm for the more adventurous, full of fields and farm animals,
along with a lime kiln and a stretch of unspoiled Ibizan forest
where you will still find rare species such as holly oaks, arbutus (known
locally as strawberry trees) and myrtles. The farm has maintained the
age-old tradition of fertilising its fields with seaweed from nearby beaches,
cultivating a range of unusual organic produce that is sold in its
on-site shop. Visitors are also welcome to take a guided tour.

If you’re going to eat meat and animal produce, then you want to make
sure that the animals are treated well... Located on the road from Ibiza’s
island capital, Eivissa, to Santa Gertrudis, this farm not only sells
cheese and eggs produced by its own animals; it also sells meat from
livestock guaranteed to have had a good life on Ibiza. Their animal feed
is 100 percent natural and made from foodstuffs either cultivated on-site
or sourced from sustainable crops grown on nearby farms.
As well as a shop, the farm also has a grill restaurant.

Can Muson
This organic farm is located halfway between Santa Eulària and
Ibiza’s island capital, Eivissa. It sells fruit and vegetables from its
own organic gardens. In addition, the eco-finca has a small restaurant,
caters for children’s parties and offers tours, with or without
a guide.
Of particular interest are its workshops, ranging from how to bake traditional-style
bread or distil the local herbal liqueur known as “hierbas”,
to making goat’s cheese or learning the basics of organic farming.

Can Obrador
Permaculture is an art in itself, and one that is applied – and taught –
here. Sustainable crops are planted, and special fertilisers produced
on-site. The farm offers related courses, as well as macrobiotic cookery
courses drawing on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine,
among other things.
If you want to discover the farm’s permaculture practices for yourself, it
is open to the public on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The farm
is located near the island village of Ca Na Negreta.

und Gemüse frei von Pestiziden, das im Farm-Shop angeboten wird.
Auch Workshops stehen auf dem Programm der Finca am Rand des

Visiting this farm is like travelling back in time 700 years or so to the era
of Arab rule. The buildings themselves are fascinating: the house, the
hexagonal mill tower, the running water system and reservoir...
Everything here is in harmony: ancient olive and fruit trees are surrounded
by fields of flowers that attract bees in their droves. Domestic and
farm animals live peacefully alongside the island’s fauna; the fields are
used to cultivate pesticide-free fruit and vegetables for sale in the farm
shop. The finca on the outskirts of the village of Ca Na Negreta also
hosts a programme of workshops.

DIE SCHMACKHAFTEN IBIZA-SORTEN
Ibiza ist seit je her sehr fruchtbar: Quellen versorgten die Felder
– heute sind es Brunnen. Über Jahrhunderte sind eigene Obstund
Gemüsesorten entstanden. Ihr Geschmack ist herausragend.
Doch unter anderem die Zucht von Massenprodukten drohte die
traditionellen Sorten zu verdrängen. Die im Juni 2017 ins Leben
gerufene Initiative „Sabors d’Eivissa“ sorgt dafür, dass die Geschmäcke
der Insel erhalten bleiben. Drei möchten wir Ihnen kurz
vorstellen:
Meló eriçó – die „See-Igel-Honigmelone“
Nein, sie wächst nicht im Meer. Der Name stammt von der Struktur
der Haut dieser kleinen Melone, die dem Gehäuse eines See-Igels
ähnelt. Kaum einer kennt sie heute noch, denn die meló eriçó ist
kommerziell fast nicht nutzbar. Sie wird kaum größer als eine Orange,
muss reif geerntet und schnell verzehrt werden. Deshalb nutzen
die meisten Bauern sie nur noch für den Eigen-Gebrauch. Was
schade ist, denn diese kleine Melone ist unglaublich geschmacksintensiv-süß.
Inzwischen haben aber verschiedene Restaurants die meló eriçó wieder
auf der Karte: Ca n’Alfredo, Es Terral, Experimental Beach, Re-Art,
S’Ametller, Sa Brisa und Unic.
Mit viel Glück finden Sie die Melone auch auf einem der ibizenkischen
Bauernmärkte. Dann zögern Sie nicht und greifen Sie zu!

Fruit and vegetables
TASTY VARIETIES UNIQUE TO IBIZA
Ibiza has always been very fertile: natural springs irrigated the
fields (today’s water is supplied by wells), and unique varieties
of fruit and vegetables evolved over centuries. They taste fantastic.
But these traditional varieties are under threat, particularly
from intensive crop farming. The “Sabors d’Eivissa” initiative,
launched in June 2017, is designed to safeguard the island’s
flavours. We want to tell you about three project that are currently
under way:
Meló eriçó – the “sea urchin honeydew”
No, it doesn’t grow in the sea. The name comes from this little melon’s
surface structure, which looks like the shell of a sea urchin. Nowadays,
very few people are aware that this variety even exists, as the meló
eriçó is very difficult to market. It is barely larger than an orange, needs
to be harvested when ripe and has to be eaten almost immediately.
Which is why most farmers tend to keep their crop for themselves – a
pity, because this little melon is incredibly sweet and tasty.
More recently, however, a number of restaurants have put meló eriçó
back on the menu: Ca n’Alfredo, Es Terral, Experimental Beach, Re-Art,
S’Ametller, Sa Brisa and Unic.
If you’re in luck, you might also find these melons on sale at one of
the island’s farming markets. If so, don’t hesitate – grab them while
you can!

Sandía de Ibiza/ Síndria d‘Eivissa– die Wassermelone Ibizas
Wassermelonen gehören einfach zu den Mittelmeer-Genüssen. Aber
die Massenware hat nur noch wenig mit echtem Melonen-Genuss zu
tun, wenn man den Vergleich hat. Oft ist das Fruchtfleisch eher weich
und strukturlos, hat wenig Geschmack.
Die Ibizenkische Wassermelone zeichnete sich immer durch ihr intensives
Aroma und das feste, knackige Fruchtfleisch aus. Für eine Weile
fast völlig verschwunden, fanden die Ibizenker schließlich wieder eine
Sandía, die diese Eigenschaften mitbrachte. Mit ihren charakteristischen
Streifen und dem Etikett „Sandía de Ibiza / Síndria d‘Eivissa“ ist sie nun
für jeden Wassermelonen-Fan auf den Inselmärkten unverkennbar.
Gegen den allgemeinen Trend, kernlose Sorten zu züchten, hat die
Wassermelone Ibizas Kerne – unter anderem dadurch wird das feste
und doch saftig-aromatische Fruchtfleisch erreicht.
Patata roja – die „Rote Kartoffel“
Die kleine Kartoffel mit ihrer roten Schale, dem intensiv-gelben Fleisch
und kräftigem Aroma hat die Menschen der Insel über Jahrhunderte ernährt.
Doch Krankheiten und die Tatsache, dass die Pflanze eher kleine
und verhältnismäßig wenig Knollen hervorbrachte, ließen die patata
roja fast aussterben.
Im Jahr 2016 gelang es schließlich, die rote Kartoffel in stärkerer Form
wieder zu beleben. Seither erobert sie immer mehr die kulinarische
Szene. Nicht nur Traditions-Restaurants der Insel schwören auf die
Ibiza-Knolle. Sie ist unverzichtbar für den Geschmack der typischen
Inselgerichte wie „bullit de peix“, „ensalada pagesa“, „sofrit pagès“
oder „frita de polp“.

Sandía de Ibiza/ Síndria d’Eivissa– Ibiza’s water melon
Water melons are one of the Mediterranean’s fundamental pleasures.
But if you compare mass-farmed specimens with the real thing, you’ll
find that they have very little in common. The intensively farmed varieties
tend to be softer, with little texture or flavour.
The Ibizan water melon has always been characterised by its intense
aroma and firm, crunchy flesh. For a while, this sandía had all but disappeared,
until the islanders finally rediscovered it, along with all its
accompanying attributes. With its characteristic stripes and label marked
“Sandía de Ibiza / Síndria d‘Eivissa”, water melon aficionados will
no longer have any trouble spotting it on the island’s markets.
Ibiza’s water melons buck the general trend for cultivating seedless
varieties – in fact, their seeds help to make their flesh so firm yet both
juicy and aromatic.
Patata roja – the red potato
These little potatoes, with their red skins, bright yellow pulp and intense
aroma, nourished islanders for centuries. But potato blights,
coupled with the fact that the size and number of nodules each plant
could produce was relatively small, brought the patata roja to the
brink of extinction.
At last, in 2016, efforts to revive and re-establish the red potato succeeded.
Since then, it has become an increasingly popular fixture on
the culinary scene. It’s not just Ibiza’s traditional restaurants that swear
by this local variety. It plays a crucial role in flavouring traditional island
dishes such as “bullit de peix”, “ensalada pagesa”, “sofrit pagès” and
“frita de polp”.

Wandern im Insel-Norden
NATUR, DIE SIE ZUM LÄCHELN BRINGT
Man kann die Insel nicht intensiver erleben als zu Fuß. Die zum Teil
uralten Wege der Ibizenker führen Sie in Landschaften, die man
anders nicht erreichen kann. Wir haben für Sie eine besonders abwechslungsreiche
Route ausgesucht, im urigen Inselnorden, bei
Sant Joan.
Gleich ein Tipp vorweg: Wenn Sie am Sonntag aufbrechen, erleben Sie
den tollen Markt von Sant Joan. Hier treffen sich noch die alten Insulaner,
die Bauern – ebenso aber Künstler, Musiker und junge Designer
und viele mehr. Immer sonntags, von 10 bis 14 Uhr.
Unsere Tour umfasst knapp 13 Kilometer. Sie führt vom etwa 190-Meter
hoch gelegenen Sant Joan hinunter zum Meer und wieder herauf
zum Ausgangsort. Die Pfade sind zum Teil sehr ursprünglich, festes
Schuhwerk ist ebenso dringend zu empfehlen wie eine Flasche Wasser.
Startpunkt ist der Ortskern, genau der Zebrastreifen vor der Kirche. Die
ersten rund 450 Meter führen Sie entlang der Hauptstraße Richtung
Ibiza/Eivissa. Am Schild „Can Fuster“ biegen Sie rechts in den kleinen
Weg ab. Nach etwa 450 Metern gabelt sich der Weg, bleiben Sie
rechts. Etwa 60 Meter nach der Gabelung geht links ein unscheinbarer
Pfad in den Wald. Den nehmen Sie.
Dieser uralte Einheimischen-Pfad führt Sie durch das Tal des Pinienwaldes
abwärts. Es duftet nach Pinien, Rosmarin, Wachholder…
Nach etwa 600 Metern öffnet sich das Tal zu den berühmten ibizenkischen
Terrassenfeldern, die mit Mauern aus aufeinander geschichteten
Steinen abgestützt werden. Mühsam haben die alten Bauern dem
hügeligen Land die Felder abgerungen. Hier finden Sie die typischen
Bäume, die seit jeher zur Ernährung von Mensch und Vieh dienten: Johannisbrot,
Oliven, Mandeln, Orangen, Zitronen, Pfirsiche. Alles steht
im satten Grün – oder, wenn die Bauern ihre Felder frisch gepflügt haben,
in der farbintensiven Erde der Insel, die von fast weiß über gelb,
orange bis tief rot geradezu leuchtet.
200 Meter links vor Ihnen liegt eine Finca. Links, gegenüber der Einfahrt,
liegt der historische Brunnen „Font des Avencs“, den die Bauern
für sich, ihr Vieh und die Felder nutzten. Ihr Weg führt Sie weiter
bergab. Nach 450 Metern gehen Sie an der T-Gabelung rechts weiter
auf einem Stück asphaltierten Weg. In dieser Gegend sehen Sie viele
Mandelbäume, die Ende Januar, Anfang Februar in voller Blüte stehen.
Dann geht es nach einer Links-Rechts-Kurve am nächsten Feldweg
nach links ab, dieser Weg schlängelt sich dann das Tal entlang bis zur

Hiking in the island’s north
NATURE THAT WILL BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE
By far the most intimate way to experience Ibiza is on foot. Paths
beaten by the islanders, some of them dating back centuries, lead
you through landscapes that you would have no way of accessing
otherwise. We have selected a particularly varied route for you to
try, located up in the island’s rural north near Sant Joan.
A word of advice before we get started: by scheduling your excursion
on a Sunday, you will also get the chance to visit Sant Joan’s excellent
market. This is where all the island elders and farmers congregate,
along with artists, musicians, young designers and many others besides.
Every Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Our tour today will cover around 13 kilometres. It will commence in
Sant Joan, located some 190 metres above sea level, and take you
down to the sea and then back up to your starting point. Some of the
paths have been left to run wild, so we strongly recommend coming
equipped with a pair of sturdy shoes as well as a bottle of water.
We’ll be starting off in the centre of Sant Joan, by the zebra crossing
next to the church. The first 450 metres or so take you along the main
road towards Ibiza/Eivissa. When you reach the signpost for “Can Fuster”,
turn right onto a small lane. After approximately 450 metres, you
will reach a fork in the road. Keep to the right. After around 60 metres,
you will see an unassuming little path to your left, leading into the
woods: take it.
This path, created by locals centuries ago, will take you downhill
through the valley of pine trees. A heady aroma of pine, rosemary and
juniper hangs in the air...
Around 600 metres further on, the valley opens out to reveal a cluster
of the terraced fields for which Ibiza is famous, demarcated by dry-stone
walls. Farmers of old invested a great deal of time and energy in
carving these fields out of the surrounding hills. They are full of carob,
olive, almond, orange, lemon and peach trees – the kinds of trees that,
since time immemorial, have traditionally provided sustenance for local
people and animals alike. The area is covered in a lush blanket of greenery
– except when the farmers have just ploughed their fields and
the vibrant island earth emerges in a palette of colours ranging from
off-white through yellow and orange to deepest red.
200 metres ahead of you to your left is a finca. On the left, opposite the
entrance, you will find the historic spring, “Font des Avencs”, that once
supplied famers, their livestock and the surrounding fields with water.
Your route today takes you further downhill. After 450 metres, when
you reach the t-section, turn right onto a stretch of tarmac. The area

links ab zum Strand der Cala Xarraca.
Die Bucht ist besonders schön. Das Wasser ist kristallklar, Fischerboots-Hütten
schmiegen sich an die Klippen. Die Sandsteinfelsen sind
bizarr-schön, geformt vom Wasser, dem Wind – und teilweise von kreativen
Strandbesuchern.
Zurück geht es über die rechte Zufahrts-Straße, wenn Sie das Meer
hinter sich haben. Quasi auf der anderen Seite des weiten Tals geht
es stetig bergauf. Nach 1200 Metern mündet die Straße in eine etwas
größere Straße. Gehen sie einfach weiter geradeaus. Einen weiteren
Kilometer geht es mit wundervollen Aussichten weiter, bevor Sie scharf
rechts abbiegen, in die Straße mit dem „Stop“-Schild, die bald in einen
Feldweg übergeht.
Es geht wieder in den Wald, der Weg schlängelt sich ins nächste Tal mit
Fincas und Terrassenfeldern. Bleiben Sie einfach auf dem Haupt-Feldweg,
vorbei an der Font d‘Alzina (Quelle der Steineiche auf ibizenkisch),
die ganzjährig Wasser führt. Der nächste Punkt, an dem man
etwas achtsam sein muss, kommt nach 2,5 Kilometern. Hier geht es
scharf links weiter, dem Hauptweg nach, zwischen den Weinfeldern
entlang. Nach 2,1 Kilometern nochmal scharf rechts, dann noch 350
Meter und Sie erreichen wieder eine geteerte Straße, auf der es nach
links weiter geht.
Am Ende dieser Straße erreichen Sie die Landstraße von Sant Joan
Richtung Sant Miquel. Gehen Sie links weiter, nach 260 Metern, vor
dem Rechts-Knick, gehen Sie geradeaus in den Feldweg hinein. Er
führt Sie noch ein ganzes Stück parallel zur Hauptstraße nach Sant
Joan, bevor er auf diese einmündet. Die letzten 1250 Meter führen
Sie nun leider weniger romantisch entlang der Hauptstraße, bevor Sie
wieder am Zebrastreifen vor der Kirche eintreffen. Aber das ist nur ein
kleines Opfer für eine sehr schöne Wanderung – und in den ruhigen
Nebensaison-Monaten ist selbst die Hauptstraße wenig befahren.

Cala Xarraca
is full of almond trees, which will be in full bloom at the end of January
and beginning of February.
After the road curves left and then right, take the next country lane to
your left. This winding path will lead you along the valley to the main
road. Turn right and follow the road for just 100 metres before heading
left to Cala Xarraca beach.
The bay is a particularly attractive one. The water is crystal clear and a
row of fishermen’s boathouses hugs the cliffs. These sandstone cliffs
are strangely beautiful, sculpted by centuries of wind and water – as
well as some of the beach’s more creative visitors.
On your way back, taken the access road to your right with the sea behind
you. From here on, you’ll be heading more or less constantly uphill
on the opposite side of the broad valley. After 1200 metres, the road
will feed into a slightly bigger road. Simply continue straight ahead.
After another kilometre of magnificent views, you will take a sharp right
onto the road marked with a “Stop” sign, which will soon turn into a
pathway.
The path takes you back into the woods, winding its way into the adjacent
valley full of fincas and terraced fields. Stick to the main lane,
passing the Font d’Alzina (‘holly oak spring’ in the language of Ibiza)
that never runs dry, whatever the season. Keep your eyes peeled 2.5
kilometres further down the track, when you will need to take a sharp
left and follow the lane that cuts through the vineyard. After 2.1 kilometres,
take a second sharp turn, this time to your right, and continue for
350 metres, then turn left onto another tarmacked road.
At the end of the road you will reach the main thoroughfare from Sant
Joan to Sant Miquel. Head left and after 260 metres, just before the
road curves right, take the path straight ahead of you. It will run parallel
to the main road to Sant Joan for some time before rejoining it. Unfortunately,
the last 1250 metres are somewhat less romantic: simply
follow the main thoroughfare until you find yourself back by the zebra
crossing opposite the church. But it’s a small sacrifice to make for a
wonderful hike – and during the tranquil off-season months, even the
main road tends to be pretty deserted.

– und sogar E-Bikes für all diejenigen, die – zum Beispiel in den Anstiegen

Die Gemeinde Santa Eulària ist stolz auf ihre Familienfreundlichkeit und
auf ihre Radstrecken. Zwölf Stück beschreibt die Gemeinde in Faltblättern,
jede ist außerdem ausgeschildert. Wir nehmen Sie mit auf eine
17-Kilometer-Rundfahrt, die Sie zu Orten bringt, die Ibiza so typisch
machen: die uralten Wehrtürme, die schönen Buchten, Ibizas berühmtesten
Hippiemarkt – und natürlich zum urigen Örtchen Sant Carles.
Sant Carles ist unser Start- und Zielpunkt. Sie können bequem um die
Kirche herum parken. Los geht es gegenüber der Bar Anita, dort befinden
sich auch gleich die bunten Rad-Wegweiser. Unsere Route ist die
farblich rot markierte Nummer 1.

Es geht hinter der Kirche vorbei, geradeaus über den Kreisverkehr. Und
schon knapp 300 Meter nach dem Start sollten Sie kurz Halt machen:
An dem Schild „Es Trui de Ca N’Andreu / Font de Peralta“ liegt, direkt
links am Straßenrand, der Eingang zur unterirdischen Quelle von
Peralta. Seit dem 17. Jahrhundert versorgte sie die Dorfbewohner
und die umliegenden Höfe mit Wasser, bevor das moderne Wasserleitungs-Netz
entstand.
Gleich zehn Meter weiter lohnt es sich, die Rad-Route kurz zu verlassen:
Links geht es zum Mühlenmuseum, eigentlich einem alten Bauernhaus
aus dem Jahr 1775. Hier erfahren Sie viel über den historischen
Alltag und die Arbeit der Landbewohner.
Zurück auf der Rad-Route Führt die Strecke Sie entlang der schönen
Landschaft hinunter zur urigen Bucht „Cala Mestella“. Der kurze Abstecher
lohnt sich, die Bucht ist von der Bebauung verschont geblieben:
Pinien, Schilf, Strand – herrlich für eine kleine Pause und ein erfrischendes
(Fuß)-Bad… Wobei Ibiza selbst im Winter zum Strandbesuch in
Bikini und Badehose lädt. Links entlang der felsigen Bucht-Küste, sehen
Sie den kleinen Naturhafen mit Fischerbötchen und den typischen,
historischen Bootsgaragen. Dort befindet sich auch das berühmte
„El Bigotes“, ein uriges Restaurant, das das serviert, was gerade vom
Fischerboot kommt.

Cala Mestella
A beach, a fortified tower, a hippie market – and much more besides
Exploring thE islAnd’s highlights by bikE
The island has a whole lot to offer cyclists, from family-friendly excursions
to mountain trails for athletes. It hosts a variety of national
and international on- and off-road bike races, many of them during
the off-season months. But there are plenty of other great options to
choose from – especially for the more adventurous. The local municipalities
have built plenty of cycle routes, all of which are signposted
and available in leaflet form. We’ve come up with a family-friendly and
very varied tour that should appeal to most. There are several companies
renting out bikes for every occasion – including e-bikes for those
who prefer a little extra support, for example when pedalling uphill.
Santa Eulària is proud of its reputation as a family-friendly municipality
– and equally proud of its cycle routes. Its leaflets list a total of twelve,
each of which is clearly signposted. Today, we’ll be taking you on a
17-kilometre round trip that will take you to some of the places that
give Ibiza its traditional character: ancient fortified towers, beautiful
bays, Ibiza’s most famous hippie market – and, of course, the rustic
village of Sant Carles.
Our trip starts and ends in Sant Carles. You should have no problem
finding a parking space near the church. The tour kicks off opposite the
“Anita” bar, where there is a cluster of colourful signposts for cyclists.
We’ll be following route number 1, marked in red.
Cycle round the back of the church. When you reach the roundabout,
continue straight ahead. You will reach your first stop-off point
after approximately 300 metres: the sign for “Es Trui de Ca N’Andreu
/ Font de Peralta” is located to the left of the road, pointing towards
the entrance to the underground Peralta spring. It supplied villagers
and nearby farms with water from the 17th century until the modern
pipeline was laid.
It’s also worth taking another detour just ten metres further down the
road: the lane to your left leads to the mill museum, located in an
old farmhouse dating back to the year 1775. Here you can find out
all sorts of things about local country folk’s daily lives and labours in
times gone by.
Back on the road, the route will take you through beautiful countryside
down to the bucolic bay of “Cala Mestella”. Again, it’s worth deviating
briefly from the designated route, as the bay has escaped the excesses
of the construction boom. Its pine trees, reeds and beach beckon you
over for a quick break and a refreshing (foot) dip... Nestling alongside
the craggy coast of the bay, you will see the natural harbour with its tiny
fishing boats and famed historical boathouses. It is also home to the
renowned “El Bigotes”, a quaint little restaurant whose menu consists
of the catch of the day.

Cala de Boix
Für Sie geht es weiter, durch den schattigen Wald, in dem sich Pinienduft
und der Duft des Meeres herrlich vermischen, zum Strand der
„Cala de Boix“. Es sind nur gut anderthalb Kilometer – aber es geht ein
ganzes Stück weit bergauf.
Die „Cala de Boix“ ist weitläufiger als die „Cala Mestella“ und
bietet einen tollen Blick. Folgen Sie weiter den Radweg-Schildern,
die Sie nach einem kurzen Stück übers Land wieder zur
Küste führen, direkt zum hoch-interessanten „Pou d’es Lleó“.
Bevor wir die Bucht erkunden, folgen Sie den Rad-Schildern
aber rechts bis zum alten Wehrturm „Torre d’en Valls“. Diese
Türme finden sich rund um Ibiza. Sie waren Wachposten und
standen immer in Sichtweite voneinander, sodass bei Gefahr
per Feuer- oder Rauchzeichen die Warnung in Windeseile um
die ganze Insel gehen konnte. Ibiza war begehrtes Angriffsziel
für Piraten und Eroberer.
Die Türme haben meterdicke Wände, die Zugänge liegen oft erhöht
und schwer erreichbar. Der „Torre d’en Valls“ diente auch als Waffenlager.
Erbaut wurde er um 1763. Einheimische sagen, um ihn herum
findet man heute noch Musketen-Kugeln…
Zurück geht es zum „Pou des Lleó“. Besonders interessant ist der Bereich,
wenn Sie direkt am „Restaurant Pou d’es Lleó“ rechts zur Küste
abbiegen. Hier liegt, direkt in der glatten Steilküste, über dem Wasser,
ein runder Eingang in den Felsen. An dessen Ende liegt ein alter Brunnen.
Ob damals ein Holzgestell dort hin führte oder eine Steintreppe
den Wellen zum Opfer gefallen ist…? Noch interessanter wird es, wenn
Sie zu Fuß die Bucht links weiter hoch gehen. Schon von weitem sehen
Sie den schnurgeraden Kanal vor dem Kliff, rund 300 Meter vor Ihnen.
Rund sieben Meter breit und 150 Meter lang verläuft er knapp unter
der Wasserlinie. Eine Laune der Natur? Ein alter phönizischer Hafen?
Klettern Sie ruhig runter und entscheiden Sie selbst.
Im großen Bogen geht es nun zurück zu Ihrem Startpunkt Sant Carles.
Wenn Sie die Tour an einem Samstag machen, empfehlen wir Ihnen
von hier aus den Abstecher zum Hippiemarkt „Las Dalias“. Er ist der
bekannteste Hippiemarkt der Insel. Hier finden Sie noch viele echte
Inselprodukte, von Mode über Pflege, Schmuck und Deko bis zu Gewürzen
& Co. Dazu gibt es oft Live-Musik. Auch in der Nebensaison
ist er jeden Samstag ab 10 Uhr vormittags geöffnet. Der Markt liegt
an der Hauptstraße Richtung Santa Eulària, 900 Meter außerhalb von
Sant Carles.

It’s time to get back on track and cycle through the shady woods, the
air an aromatic blend of pine trees and the nearby sea, en route to
“Cala de Boix” beach. It’s just one and a half kilometres to your destination
– though a good stretch of it is uphill.
“Cala de Boix” is broader and longer than “Cala Mestella”, with a
fantastic view. Keep following the signposts for cyclists; after a short
cross-country stretch, it will lead you back to the coast and straight to
the fascinating bay known as “Pou des Lleó”. But before you start exploring
the area, follow the signposts and head right to the old fortified
tower of “Torre d’en Valls”. Towers like this are common on Ibiza. They
served as sentry posts and were built within eyeshot of one another so
that guards could trigger a rapid chain of smoke signals to warn people
across the island of impending danger. Ibiza was once a coveted target
for pirates and conquerors.
The walls of these towers are several metres thick and the entrances
are often situated high above ground, making them difficult to access.
“Torre d’en Valls” was also used as a weapons store. It was built
around 1763. Locals say that you can still find the occasional musket
ball nearby...
Time to return to “Pou des Lleó”. Your best option is to turn right by the
“Restaurant Pou d’es Lleó” and continue towards the coast. When you
reach the smooth cliff face, you will spot a round entrance, located some
metres above sea level. It leads to an ancient spring. Whether people used
to access it using a wooden platform or via stone steps that have long since
been washed away, nobody knows. Things get even more interesting
when you turn left and walk further up the bay. From afar, you will already
be able to see the cliffside canal, stretching out straight as an arrow some
300 metres ahead of you. Around seven metres wide and 150 metres long,
it is barely above sea level. A freak of nature, perhaps? Or an ancient Phoenician
harbour? Clamber down and decide for yourself.
The tour ends via a circuitous route that will take you back to your starting
point in Sant Carles. If you decide to do the tour on a Saturday, we
recommend factoring in a detour to the “Las Dalias” hippie market – the
most famous of its kind on the island. Here you will find a wide selection
of traditional island wares, ranging from clothes, toiletries, jewellery and
ornaments to herbs and spices. A live band is often playing. The market
is open every Saturday from 10 a.m., including during the off-season
months. It is located on the main road to Santa Eulària, 900 metres outside
Sant Carles.

spontan losfahren kann. Verlassen Sie die Hauptstraßen, und Sie
werden automatisch viele schöne Ecken entdecken. Irgendwann
kommen Sie fast automatisch wieder auf eine Hauptstrecke. Zum
„Warmwerden“ stellen wir Ihnen hier eine abwechslungsreiche
Route vor, die Sie mit herrlichen Landschaften, tollen Blicken und
interessanten Einblicken in Ibizas große Geschichte belohnt.
Sant Rafel, zwischen Ibizas Inselhauptstadt und Sant Antoni, hat sich
viel Tradition bewahrt. Der kleine Ort ist das Zentrum des ibizenkischen
Handwerks. Töpfer- und Flechtwaren werden hier noch nach alter Tradition
in kleinen Werkstätten hergestellt und angeboten. Nehmen Sie
sich zum Beginn der Tour, die hier startet, ruhig etwas Zeit zum Stöbern
und Entdecken.
Auf geht’s: Mit dem Wagen fahren Sie auf die Schnellstraße Richtung
Eivissa, Ibizas Inselhauptstadt. Aber nur für knapp einen Kilometer.
Beim Restaurant „Las dos lunas“, mit seiner markanten Säule, die von
sichelförmigen Monden gekrönt wird, biegen Sie rechts ab – genau vor
der Feuerwache „Parc de bombers“.
200 Meter ist die kurze Straße lang, an deren Ende Sie links abbiegen.
Die Straße führt Sie durch das urige Benimussa-Tal, vorbei an alten
Fincas, Olivenbäumen, Feldern, Schafen und Ziegen. Folgen Sie immer
der geteerten Straße.
Nach fünf Kilometern erreichen Sie den Hügel-Pass und vor Ihnen öffnet
sich der Blick übers Tal. In der Ferne glitzert das Meer. Die Straße
schlängelt sich bergab, nach knapp 600 Metern geht rechts der Feldweg
zum Öko-Projekt-Hof „Casita Verde“ ab.
Unser Weg führt aber weiter geradeaus. Auf der geteerten Straße,
und rund 80 Meter nach der „Casita Verde“-Einfahrt, biegen
Sie links ab. Diese – ebenfalls geteerte – Straße empfängt
Sie gleich mit zwei 90-Grad-Knicken. Sie Steigt wieder in die
Hügel hinauf, anschließend langsam abfallend, durch duftende
Pinienwälder, Richtung Süden, bis Sie auf die Schnellstraße Eivissa-Sant
Josep treffen.
Hier biegen Sie rechts ab. Aber auch hier bleiben wir der Schnellstraße
nur kurz treu, sehr kurz. Direkt am nächsten Kreisverkehr,
nach nur 200 Metern, biegen Sie links ab, Richtung Flughafen.
Folgen Sie der Straße rund 1,8 Kilometer, biegen Sie dann Richtung
Sa Caleta/Cala Jondal rechts ab. Etwa 2,3 Kilometer weiter
erreichen Sie die Küste.
Ein kurzer Stopp lohnt sich: Links erstreckt sich die lange Kiesbucht
„Platja des Codolar“ vorm Flughafen, mit der spektakulären
Steilküste des „Cap des Falcó“ am Ende. Bei Stürmen aus
südlicher Richtung tobt das Meer hier spektakulär und in tollem
Jade-Grün! Vor Ihnen, entlang der Küste, sehen Sie dagegen bereits
„Sa Caleta“. Hier finden Sie die Ur-Siedlung Ibizas.

Discovering the island by car
HEAVENLY VIEWS AND LIVING HISTORY
Exploring Ibiza off-season by car is a wonderful experience.
The island is so small that you can decide to go for a drive
whenever the whim takes you. The beauty spots will come
hard and fast the moment you leave the main roads behind.
And at some point, you will find that most of the side roads
automatically lead you back to a main thoroughfare. To get you
“in the mood” for a drive, we’ve put together a richly diverse
route that will reward you with gorgeous stretches of countryside,
amazing views and fascinating insights into Ibiza’s auspicious
history.
Located between Ibiza’s capital and Sant Antoni, Sant Rafel has held
on to its age-old traditions. The little town is at the epicentre of Ibiza’s
arts and crafts trade: small workshops specialising in traditional pottery
and basket-weaving manufacture and sell their goods on site. As
our tour gets under way, make sure you allow yourself enough time to
browse the shops and discover what’s on offer.
When you get back behind the wheel, take the main road that leads
to Eivissa, Ibiza’s island capital – but only for a kilometre or so. When
you see the restaurant “Las dos lunas” with its striking pillars topped
with crescent moons, turn right – by the “Parc de bombers” fire station.
This short stretch of road is only 200 metres long. When you reach the
end, turn left. The road will take you through the unspoiled Benimussa
Valley, past old fincas, olive trees, fields, sheep and goats. Keep following
the tarmacked road.
After five kilometres, you will reach the hill pass, offering an expansive
view of the valley below and the shimmering sea in the distance. The
winding road will take you downhill. After around 600 metres, you will
see a country lane leading to the Casita Verde eco-project.
Today, however, we’re going to keep driving straight ahead, so stick
to the tarmacked road for another 80 metres after passing the entrance
to Casita Verde, then take a left turn. After navigating two 90-degree
curves, this new road – also tarmacked – will take you back up
into the hills before slowly starting to descend southwards through
fragrant pine forests until you reach the main road from Eivissa to
Sant Josep.
Now take a right turn. Again, we’ll only be paying this road a fleeting
visit. After around 200 metres, you will reach a roundabout:
turn left and continue towards the airport. Follow the road for
approximately 1.8 kilometres. then turn right and head towards Sa
Caleta/Cala Jondal.
After another 2.3 kilometres or so, you will reach the coast. It’s worth
stopping to have a quick look around: to your left, next to the airport,
is the long, pebble beach, “Platja des Codolar”, which culminates in
the spectacular crags of “Cap des Falcó”. Every time a storm comes in
from the south, the sea whips itself up into a breath-taking, jade-green
frenzy. If you look straight ahead, you will already be able to see “Sa
Caleta”, home to Ibiza’s earliest settlement.

Und dort wollen wir jetzt hin: Fahren Sie einen halben Kilometer weiter und
biegen Sie dann links in den Feldweg ein. Er schlängelt sich hinunter zur
Bucht mit ihren bunten Sandstein-Kliffs. Zu Fuß gehen Sie weiter zum Plateau,
wo noch alte Wehr-Gebäude und Geschützfundamente aus dem Krieg
von schlechteren Zeiten berichten. Ein paar Meter weiter liegen eingezäunt
die Fundamente der Ur-Siedlung Ibizas. Hier, so sind sich die Archäologen
sicher, siedelten die ersten Menschen der Insel, lange bevor sie den Hügel
von Eivissa mit der Hafenbucht entdeckten und besiedelten – dort, wo heute
die Inselhauptstadt Eivissa mit der Festung und der Kathedrale thront.
Folgen Sie der Bucht noch 100 Meter weiter. Fast kreisrund empfängt
Sie die kleine Bucht, die damals als Hafen diente und in der dicht an
dicht die traditionellen Fischerboots-Garagen der Einheimischen liegen.
Sie gehören fest zur uralten Inseltradition und werden bis heute
für Schiffe – und Wochenend-Ausflüge der Familien genutzt. Es wird
gefischt, gegrillt, gelacht.
Zurück auf der Hauptstraße geht es links weiter, an der Gabelung, nach
gut 200 Metern, wieder links, Richtung „Cala Jondal“. Die Straße führt
hinunter zur Bucht und am Ende der Cala steil bergauf – mit einem
tollen Blick nach dem scharfen Rechts-Knick.
Am Ende der Steigung kommen Sie auf eine T-Kreuzung. Sie biegen
links ab, Richtung „Es Xarco“. Nach gut 150 Metern verwandelt sich
die geteerte Straße in einen Feldweg, der sich hinab zur Küste schlängelt.
Die urige, pinien-bewaldete Bucht ist einen Stopp wert.
(Achtung: Der Weg ist steil und kann besonders nach starken Regenfällen
sehr ausgewaschen sein. Wenn Sie ihn nicht nehmen möchten,
biegen Sie an der oben erwähnten T-Kreuzung rechts ab. Nach 1,9 Kilometern
trifft diese Straße auf die Straße, die von der Halbinsel Porroig
kommt. Fahren Sie hier rechts. Ab hier geht es weiter, wie drei Absätze
weiter beschrieben, nur sind es statt der vier Kilometer nur rund 1,6 bis
zur Abzweigung nach Es Cubells, die Sie ignorieren.)
Der Feldweg bringt Sie zur edlen Porroig-Halbinsel. Sobald Sie wieder
Asphalt unter die Räder bekommen, ginge es links zur Halbinsel mit
ihren Prachtvillen, von denen aber von der Straße aus nicht viel zu sehen
ist. Wer trotzdem mal schauen möchte: Die Straße ist eine lange
Sackgasse, Sie kommen automatisch zu Ihrem Startpunkt zurück.
Wer gleich rechts abbiegt, schlängelt sich kurz bergauf, bleibt
noch etwas an der Küste und fährt dann landeinwärts weiter. Das
ist unsere Route.
Nach rund vier Kilometern kommt die Abbiegung nach Es Cubells. Die
ignorieren Sie und fahren noch 500 Meter weiter, bevor Sie direkt vor
der kleinen Brücke links in die schmale Straße einbiegen.
Rechts unter Ihnen erstreckt sich ein kleines, fruchtbares Tal, auf der
anderen Seite die steinernen Überreste eines Brunnens, aus dem
durch die Kraft von Eseln, Mulis oder Pferden Wasser gefördert wurde.
Es geht durch das urige, grüne Tal, Sie bleiben auf der geteerten Stra-

And this is exactly where we are headed. Drive another half kilometre
and then turn left onto a winding country lane that leads down to the
bay and its vibrant sandstone cliffs. From there, continue on foot to
the plateau dotted with ancient fortifications and the remains of wartime
artillery posts that bear testament to darker times. A few metres
further on, you will come across the fenced-in ruins of Ibiza’s earliest
settlement. Archaeologists are convinced that this is where the first
people to reach the island chose to settle, long before they discovered
and colonised Eivissa’s hills and harbour – today home to the island’s
capital, dominated by the city’s fortifications and imposing cathedral.
Walk another 100 metres to reach the little bay, which forms an almost
perfect circle and was once a harbour. Today, it is densely packed with
traditional fisherman’s huts belonging to local inhabitants. They are
part and parcel of the island’s long-standing traditions and even now
are still used by local families heading off for a boat trip or weekend
excursion. This is a place where people come to fish, have a barbecue
and enjoy each other’s company.
When you’re back in your car, head left on the main road. After a good
200 metres you will reach a fork in the road; turn left again and continue
towards “Cala Jondal”. The road leads down to the bay. When
you reach the end of the Cala, it rises steeply and curves sharply to the
right, offering a magnificent view of the surrounding area. At the top
of the incline you will reach a T-junction. Turn left towards “Es Xarco”.
After around 150 metres, the tarmacked surface will give way to a meandering
country lane leading down to the coast. It’s worth factoring
in a break to explore the unspoiled pinewoods that flank the bay. (Be
aware that the lane is steep and can be slippery, particularly after heavy
rainfall. If you prefer not to venture down it, you can turn right at the
T-junction instead. After 1.9 kilometres, the road feeds into the Porroig
peninsula thoroughfare. Turn right. From here onwards, follow the route
described three paragraphs further down, bearing in mind that it is 1.6
rather than 4 kilometres to the turn-off to Es Cubells, which you will
pass without turning.)
The country lane will take you to the exclusive Porroig peninsula. As
soon as you are back on asphalt, turn left to reach the peninsula with
its grand villas – although few of them will be visible from the road. If
you would like to have a look around nonetheless, simply keep driving:
the road is a long cul-de-sac that will automatically take you back to
where you started.
If you’ve opted to turn right at the T-junction, you will find yourself on
a winding road that rises briefly, follows the coast for a while and then
continues inland. This is where we’re headed next. After some four
kilometres, you will reach the access road to Es Cubells. Ignore it and
drive another 500 metres. Just before you reach the small bridge, turn
left onto a narrow road.
Below you to your right you will see a small, verdant valley; on the other
side, the ruins of a well where people used to come with their donkeys,
mules and horses to draw water.

ße. Nach gut 1,2 Kilometern kommt links eine Finca. Gut 300 Meter
weiter, am zweiten Feldweg rechts, sollten Sie parken. Auf der anderen
Straßenseite führt ein kleiner Weg hinunter ins Tal, direkt zum Brunnen
„Font des Verger“. Brunnen sind die Lebensquellen der Insel, sie werden
gepflegt und geehrt. Jedes Jahr veranstalten die Ibizenker prächtige
Feste für ihre Brunnen. Der „Font des Verger“ ist ein besonderes
Kleinod. Wie eine Oase plätschert das Wasser durch kleine Kanäle,
Schilf umrahmt die alten Mauern. Der Brunnen wird mindestens seit
dem 18. Jahrhundert genutzt und bis heute gepflegt.
Fahren Sie nun weiter, immer der Straße folgend, bis Sie in Sant Josep
ankommen, dem Haupt-Ort der gleichnamigen Gemeinde, in der wir
uns bewegen. Sie kommen automatisch auf die Hauptstraße, auf die
Sie halb rechts einbiegen, nur um gleich anschließend wieder rechts,
am Busbahnhof, zu parken.
Schlendern Sie die Hauptstraße entlang bis zur Kirche, die gleichzeitig
den Ortskern markiert. Sant Josep gehört zu den gepflegtesten Inselorten:
weiße Wände, liebevolle Bepflanzungen. Auch in der Nebensaison
treffen sich hier viele Einheimische, Wahlinsulaner und Inselbesucher.
Es geht entspannt zu.
Wenn die Kirche geöffnet hat, ist sie einen Besuch wert. Vor allem der
reich verzierte, goldene Altar ist prächtig. Cafés und Restaurants laden
zur Pause ein, danach lohnt sich ein Spaziergang durch die Gassen,
bevor Sie, vielleicht vorbei am Rathaus, im Bogen zurück zum Auto
gehen.
Biegen Sie nun wieder auf die Hauptstraße ein – links, orts-auswärts.
Sie führt Sie direkt zum Küstenörtchen Es Cubells, mit seiner großartigen
Aussicht übers Meer und der wehrhaften Dorfkirche. Unsere
Route führt über dieselbe Straße aus Es Cubells heraus, wie Sie auch

Die nächsten Meter gehören zu den schönsten Blicken der Insel. Vor
allem im Bereich des leichten Links-Knicks nach rund 1,1 Kilometern.
Links von Ihnen geht der Blick übers Land, vorbei am alten Kloster
auf die spektakuläre Küstenlinie mit Hügeln und Buchten. In der Ferne
schließt Formentera die Szene ab.
Sie folgen der Straße nun weiter Richtung Cala d’Hort. An der Abzweigung
nach Sant Josep/Cala Carbó/Cala Vedella fahren Sie vorbei, und
parken knapp 700 Meter weiter. Gehen Sie links zur Steilküste. Hier
empfängt Sie beeindruckend die mystische Felseninsel Es Vedrà. 380
Meter erhebt sie sich steil aus dem Meer. Viele sagen ihr eine besondere,
magische Ausstrahlung nach – zweifelsohne bietet sie einen erhabenen
Anblick. Hier endet unsere Tour. Vielleicht für Sie mit einem
Drink unten am Strand? Jetzt, in der Nebensaison findet man dort unten
leicht einen Parkplatz – und kann die Atmosphäre und das Meer in
Ruhe genießen…
Die Gesamtlänge der Tour umfasst rund 42 Kilometer, mit dem Porroig-Abstecher
sind es rund zwei Kilometer mehr. Rechnen Sie mit den
Pausen und Spaziergängen mindestens einen halben Tag ein.

Es Vedrà
The route continues through the unspoiled green valley. Stay on the
tarmacked road. After a good 1.2 kilometres, you will see a finca to
your left. Continue for another 300 metres until you reach the second
lane on your right, where you can turn in and park your car. On the
opposite side of the lane, a small path leads down into the valley. It will
take you straight to the “Font des Verger” spring. Springs are the lifeblood
of Ibiza, and local people care for and respect them. Every year,
they hold lavish festivals in honour of their springs. “Font des Verger“ is
a real gem. Rivulets of water trickle oasis-like through narrow channels;
reeds flourish around the ancient walls. The spring has been in constant
use since at least the 18th century and is still lovingly maintained.
Back in your car, keep following the road until you reach Sant Josep,
the capital of the eponymous municipality that we are currently travelling
through. You will automatically reach the main road. Bear right
and, almost immediately afterwards, take another right turn by the bus
station, and park your car.
Walk along the main street to the church, which marks the town centre.
Sant Josep is one of the best-kept towns on the island, full of gleaming
white walls and well-tended plants. Locals, ex-pats and holidaymakers
flock here even in the off-season months. The atmosphere is relaxed.
It is worth visiting the church if it happens to be open. Its notable features
include an ornately decorated, gilded altar. There are plenty of welcoming
cafés and restaurants, and you can follow up with a pleasant
wander through the narrow streets, maybe taking in the town hall on
your way, before returning to your car.
Turn left and continue along the main street, heading out of town. It will
lead you straight to the coastal village of Es Cubells, which boasts a
magnificent view of the sea and a charming little church. For the route
we’re following today, take the same road out of Es Cubells as you took
driving in, but this time turn left after 900 metres or so and continue
towards “Cala d’Hort”.
The next few metres will offer some of the loveliest views to be found on
the island, especially around the 1.1 kilometre mark as the road curves
gently to the left. To your left, you have a view of the surrounding countryside,
taking in the old monastery and a spectacular coastline full of hills
and inlets. The distant island of Formentera rounds off this magical scene.
Stay on the road to Cala d’Hort until you reach the crossroad (Sant Josep/Cala
Carbó/Cala Vedella) and then travel another 700 metres before
parking your car. On foot, head left towards the cliffs, where you will
be greeted by a view of the mystical rocky island known as Es Vedrà.
Its 380-metre crags rise steeply from the sea. Many people say it has
a special, almost magical, aura – and it is certainly an impressive sight.
This is where our tour ends. Maybe you will round it off with a drink
down on the beach? Off-season, there are always parking spaces to
be had – and it’s a great opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere and the
sea in peace and quiet...
The total length of our trip is approximately 42 kilometres – around 2 kilometres
more if you factor in a detour to Porroig. You should plan at least half a
day to complete it, making allowances for breaks and walks en route.

Museo Etnográfico de Ibiza
Ethnografisches Museum, gelegen am Puig de Missa in Santa Eulària in

Im Gebäude der Kirche von Sant Francesc de S‘Estany, direkt an den
Salzbecken, befindet sich das Informationszentrum „Lebensraum Ses Salines“.
Darin finden Sie die Geschichte der Salzgewinnung ebenso wie die
Bedeutung der Salinen als Lebensraum für Flora und Fauna. Der Eintritt
ist kostenlos.

Museo de Arte Contemporáneo d‘Eivissa „MACE“
Eröffnet 1969, ist das MACE eines der ältesten Museen für Zeitgenössische
Kunst in ganz Spanien. Neben den hoch interessanten Ausstellungs-Stücken
ist der verglaste Boden ein Highlight. Er zeigt die Fundamente,
die bis ins Jahr 600 v. Chr. zurück reichen.

The Centre d’Interpretació has focused its time and efforts on providing
audio-visual resources that tell the city’s story. The information about the
Islamic era and Arabic fortresses is particularly comprehensive. Carrer

Museo Diocesano
The Diocesan museum, which is situated in Ibiza’s cathedral, is home to
an exhibition of paintings, sculptures, gold work and a variety of other liturgical

you will find an information centre, “The interpretation center of Ses Salines”.
It tells the story of the island’s salt industry, and illustrates the crucial
role that the salt flats have played as a natural habitat for flora and fauna.
Entry is free of charge.

Founded in 1969, MACE is one of the oldest museums of contemporary
art in Spain. As well as hosting fascinating exhibits, the museum also features
a unique glass floor, revealing foundations that date back as far as
