Focus
Happy New Year - Crystal Ball: 2018
New Year’s Resolutions: “Our resolutions are always to do our best
each year. We make reasonable resolutions to do better than the year
before.”
How they ring in the new year: “We have a huge Colombian/Mexican
Feast! There is food for days. Tamales, Empanadas, Beans, Natilla,
Bunellos, Sweet Breads, Arrepa, Roasts, Ham...... oh my! We turn
up the music, move all the rugs and dance for hours. The children laugh and play and we end the night with fireworks.”
Special NED Munchies: Mom makes Pork Posole for New Year’s Day and fresh hot chocolate. Posole is a light stew
with Posole, Pork, Onion, garlic, Hatch green chili and spices that they buy straight from New Mexico.
It reminds them of waking up on a cold morning in Colorado, their home state.
What the New Year means for their family: “The new year is a great time to reflect on the things that we did to help
other and ourselves, and to decide what we need to do to improve and grow! It is another day to decide to be our best and
to be examples to others. It’s a time for Gabriel and I to strengthen our marriage and reinforce good habits and mottos
to our children: Honor, Courtesy,Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, Courage, Community, Strength, Humility and
Knowledge.”
2017 Reflections: This year, the Family went to Port Richey, Clearwater, and Tampa, Florida. Their only plan was to
relax and enjoy each other and the beaches. They went to 8 different beaches in 7 days (yowza!) and they did not stress
over agendas or schedules. They enjoyed the ocean waves, collected shells, walked on the beach, sun tanned, surfed and
dug giant holes in the sand. Sounds like pure relaxation!
2018 Predictions: “We as a unit believe that God is always in control. We fully trust that there is good will in all humans.
Each morning we pray for our current leaders to do their best for the American people.”
2018 Plans: “We just sold our house in Katy and are moving to a bigger home that we have been patiently waiting for.
The children will will start at a new school next year and they are excited to make new friends.
We are expanding our Trucking Company and plan to hire another driver.”
Favorite things to do in your area as a family: This family has a mild obsession with Typhoon Texas, visiting the
aquatic oasis at least 4-5 times a week during the summer. Their favorite place to bike ride and fly the drone is Paul D.
Rushing park, and Mary Jo Peckham park is their go-to place to fish and run around the playground. Also, enjoying the
green space and shopping at La Centerra is high on their list of favorites. Just outside the city, this crew loves to head out
to Blessington Farm and Dewberry Farms for some good old fashioned country fun, enjoying the beloved giant slides
and corn maze as well as picking berries.
Family Roster
Mom: Maria Trejos, co-owner Trejos Transport, LLC. Hobbies
include Level 2 brown belt in Taekwondo, taking pictures,
singing, cooking and volunteering for Katy ISD as a
JA Coordinator and Pack 337 A. Committee Chair and Event
Coordinator.
Dad: Gabriel Trejos, co-owner Trejos Transport, LLC. Hobbies
include kayak fishing, playing guitar, flying drones and
stunt kites.
Kids: Elijah, 10 YO. Earned 1st Degree Level 2 Black Belt in
October. Enjoys Brazilian Ju Jit Su, XP Weapons Class for a
Taekwondo, Cub Scouts rank - Webelo, camping and reading.
Elleanna, 8 YO. Fantastic tumbler - does handsprings in the
living room. Enjoys making crafts, jewelry, creating art,
shopping and helping mom cook. Loves to read books and sew.
Why They Live in Katy
“Katy has been very good to us. At any time
during the day you see your neighbors walking the
streets, the children playing ball and roller skating
in the streets. Our neighbor is always smoking
meats and making our street smell fantastic. We
trade food over our fence! Lol! Families swim in
the community pool and picnic for hours. There
is always some kind of community event for
families. It’s amazing.”
We Would Love to
Feature Your Family!
Each month, one family will be chosen
from one of our communities.
A Note From The Constables
1. The Vacation Watch form is now available online on our website in the
left column. From this page (www.harriscountytx.gov/vacationwatch/
vacation.aspx?constid=5) you can fill in the form and submit it. The
submitted form will be emailed to dispatch for distribution.
2. The Special Watch form is now available online on our website in the
left column. From this page (www.harriscountytx.gov/alertnotification/
alertnotification.aspx?id=5) you can fill in the form and submit it. The
submitted form will be emailed to dispatch for distribution.
3. A new page named Online Crime Tips (www.harriscountytx.gov/pct5/
onlinecrimetips.aspx) is now available.
Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s office is proud to announce their
new website. Residents are encouraged to access www.constablepct5.
com, which went live as of February 27, 2015. The website is designed to
provide the user with information about the command staff, the various
divisions within the Precinct 5 Constable’s jurisdiction and various
programs the office offers to the public.
• The Precinct will be offering Crime Alerts as a way to quickly let citizens
know what is going on in their area. One you sign up on the website, a
person will received a text message or an email when important events
are taking place in the district. These alerts will only contain relevant
information and a person may unsubscribe at any time.
• The Precinct will also be offering a Citizens Police Academy. For 2 -1/2
per week over a 9 week period, instructors will show the participant
various aspect of being a police officer. Many of the classes will include
hands on participation and are available to anyone 21 and up and the
application is available on the website. Class size is very limited. A brief
video concerning this program can be viewed on www.youtube.com/
watch?v+y iuleyWHWs.
• The Precinct will be offering Operation Safe Child. Precinct 5 has
2 certified child safety technicians who are partnering with Texas
Children’s’ Hospital to demonstrate the proper usage and installation of
car seats. These technicians are current on all styles, brands, recalls and
the proper way to secure your child based on height, weight and age. The
sessions are quarterly and a person can actually bring their car seat and
child for a demonstration. A person can also request these outings to be
held in the neighborhood.
If you have a monitored alarm, make sure it is calling the Constables
Dispatch number.
Attention!
Please be careful and slow down while driving through the subdivision;
remind your young drivers to do also. Please, be aware of your
surroundings and parents, remind your children to watch for vehicles
when crossing the street.
Parked Cars
Please park your vehicles in your garage or at least in your driveway,
if at all possible. Please be considerate of your neighbors and the fire
trucks on your street. If you must park on the street, be considerate of
the neighbor across the street, who must back from a driveway in order
to enter the street. As our area has grown, so has the number of vehicles
in the subdivision. Most seem to have more than one car per family and
some have even more, as the children become driving age. Please try to
be considerate of others who try to navigate between the cars that are
left on the street. Children darting into the street or riding bicycles are
more easily seen with less parked cars blocking the view of them. Thank
you for your cooperation.
Katy Vocal Express Chorus
Open House January 22nd
Ladies, do something just for you in the New Year. Katy Vocal Express, a
prospective chorus of Sweet Adelines International, is holding an Open
House on Monday, January 22, 2018 for ladies that like to sing. Maybe you
sang in school and would like to get back to singing. Perhaps your “nest” is
now empty and you need something to fill that empty space once filled with
kids’ activities. Or, you would like an evening away from the kids and be
around some adults for a little while. Katy Vocal Express can fill those needs
and we’d like to introduce you to this new chorus, acappella barbershop
harmony and a group of really nice ladies. All voice parts will find a place in
the chorus and no previous choral experience is necessary. The open house
begins at 7 PM in the choir room of Holy Covenant United Methodist Church,
22111 Morton Ranch Road, Katy, between Mason Road and Grand Parkway.
There will be signs guiding you to the proper parking and entrance. Female
singers of all ages (age 14 and up) and singing abilities are welcome to
come. Young women 14-18 will need an adult chaperone. While it is helpful,
you do not have to read music to sing with KVE, we supply learning media
to help learn songs. For more information, email katyvocalexpress@gmail.
com or find us on Facebook at Katy Vocal Express Chorus.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday celebrates the life and legacy of a man who brought hope
and healing to America. We commemorate as well the timeless values he taught us through
his example - the values of courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service
that so radiantly defined Dr. King’s character and empowered his leadership. On this holiday,
we commemorate the universal, unconditional love, forgiveness and nonviolence that
empowered his revolutionary spirit.
Dr. King knew that it wasn’t enough just to talk the talk, that he had to walk the walk for his
words to be credible. And so we commemorate on this holiday the man of action, who put
his life on the line for freedom and justice every day, the man who braved threats and jail
and beatings and who ultimately paid the highest price to make democracy a reality for all
Americans.
On this day we commemorate Dr. King’s great dream of a vibrant, multiracial nation united in
justice, peace and reconciliation; a nation that has a place at the table for children of every
race and room at the inn for every needy child. It is a day of interracial and intercultural
cooperation and sharing. No other day of the year brings so many peoples from different
cultural backgrounds together in such a vibrant spirit of brother and sisterhood. Whether
you are African-American, Hispanic or Native American, whether you are Caucasian or Asian-
American, you are part of the great dream Martin Luther King, Jr. had for America. This is not
a black holiday; it is a peoples’ holiday.
We commemorate on this holiday the ecumenical leader and visionary who embraced
the unity of all faiths in love and truth. And though we take patriotic pride that Dr. King
was an American, on this holiday we must also commemorate the global leader who
inspired nonviolent liberation movements around the world. Indeed, on this day, programs
commemorating my husband’s birthday are being observed in more than 100 nations.
The Holiday commemorates America’s pre-eminent advocate of nonviolence - the man who
taught by his example that nonviolent action is the most powerful, revolutionary force for
social change available to oppressed people in their struggles for liberation.
This holiday honors the courage of a man who endured harassment, threats and beatings
and even bombings. We commemorate the man who went to jail 29 times to achieve freedom
for others and who knew he would pay the ultimate price for his leadership, but kept on
marching and protesting and organizing anyway.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is not only for celebration and remembrance, education and
tribute, but above all a day of service. All across America on the Holiday, his followers perform
service in hospitals and shelters and prisons and wherever people need some help. It is a
day of volunteering to feed the hungry, rehabilitate housing, tutoring those who can’t read,
mentoring at-risk youngsters, consoling the broken-hearted and a thousand other projects
for building the beloved community of his dream.
We call you to commemorate this Holiday by making your personal commitment to serve humanity
with the vibrant spirit of unconditional love that was his greatest strength and which empowered
all of the great victories of his leadership. And with our hearts open to this spirit of unconditional
love, we can indeed achieve the Beloved Community of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream.
