Prayer Meeting
Prayer Meeting will be held this Wednesday evening, January 3, 2018, at 7:00 pm in
the Moseley Complex Chapel. Let’s start the new year off right! All are encouraged
to attend. Remember, “much prayer, much power!” Also, immediately following
Prayer Meeting, we will have Church Business Meeting.
Stewardship Corner
As we come to the end of the year and prepare for 2018, some of us, as struggling
Christians, sincerely want to achieve a fulfilling state of inner peace so we can be in
harmony with Jesus Christ, His will, and plan for our happiness. We want to function
as His children and live daily in Him. But we just haven’t been able to find that true
peace. Perhaps we are not functioning and honestly giving as we were meant to in
God’s eyes because we have not taken the necessary steps to completely turn our lives
over to His will, His care, and His plan for us. Christ longs for us to experience complete
surrender to Him. He aches for our heart to be His. He waits for us. The Lord
longs to have each of us experience that inner spiritual grace which He so freely offers.
His eye jealously longs for our hearts to be His. Won’t you give yourself totally
to Him today? Then give a faithful Tithe and Combined Budget Offering as you were
meant to “in the eye of God.”
Oakwood Adventist Academy (OAA) Building Project
Please be mindful of our financial commitment to the OAA Building Project. Given
our church obligation of $3,000,000.00, the OUC makes a monthly payment to satisfy
this commitment. Let us all support this collective responsibility through our systematic
financial support, which is in addition to our normal Tithe and Combined Budget
Offering. All donations, large or small, are sincerely appreciated. Kindly mark on
your offering envelope, “OAA Building Fund.”
“Restoration 40” - Construction of Family Life Center
Our Family Life Center is over 75% completed! Praise the Lord! As we go into the
“home stretch” for construction completion, everyone is kindly asked to intensify
their giving efforts for our Family Life Center Building Project, which is inclusive of
our “Restoration 40” initiative. Each member is asked to reach a goal of $1,000.00
for this project through a one time gift, systematic monthly gifts, or the solicitation of
donations from family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and businesses (in
addition to your normal Tithe and Combined Budget Offering). If you have reached
your $1,000.00 goal, please feel free to give additional funds. Donations can be made
via your offering envelope and labeled, “Restoration 40.” Thank you.
Welcome
On behalf of the Pastoral Staff, Officers, and Members of the Oakwood University Church
(OUC), we would like to extend a special welcome today to all of our visiting friends
inclusive of “Heaven’s Song,” our guest musical group from Washington, DC. We hope
you enjoy your worship experience with us, and please come again.
New Year’s Eve Worship Experience - “Heaven’s Song”
Our annual New Years’ Eve Worship Experience will be held tomorrow evening
(Sunday), December 31, at 5:30 pm here at the OUC. This worship experience will
include Holy Communion and the music ministry of “Heaven’s Song. Please plan to be
present and kindly invite your family, friends, neighbors, and loved ones to join us.
Communion Rehearsal
Communion Rehearsal for all Retired Pastors, Elders, Deacons, Deaconesses, Ushers, and
Greeters will take place this evening, December 30, at 5:30 pm. All aforementioned
church officers are kindly asked to be present for this most important rehearsal.
Square Up with God Month
There are just two days left in 2017 and the month of December has been designated as
“Square Up with God” month. We (church members and visitors) are all called to “square
up” with God in our Christian Stewardship. Let’s “square up” in our Time - Church
attendance, Talents - Church service, and Treasury - Church giving (Tithe and Combined
Budget). Remember, “you can’t beat God giving no matter how you try.”
OUC Offices and Market Holiday Closing
Please note that the OUC Offices and Market will be closed Monday, January 1, 2018, in
observance of the New Years’ Day Holiday.
Church Business Meeting
Church Business Meeting will be held this Wednesday evening, January 3, 2018,
immediately following Prayer Meeting. All OUC Church Members are kindly asked to be
in attendance as we receive our 2017 Progress Report and review plans for 2018.
Back to School Revival - Jonathan Nelson
Save the date! Our Spring Semester “Back to School Revival” will commence on
Sabbath, January 13, 2018. Dr. Carlton P. Byrd will be the speaker and the special
musical guest will be Jonathan Nelson. Please plan to be in attendance.
Family Life Ministries
Our OUC Couples’ Ministry will be having a “Couples Marriage Retreat” Weekend on
October 12-14, 2018 entitled, “Courageous Hearts!” This retreat will consist of a threeday,
two-night program designed to restore communication and rekindle affection in
marriage. The pace and pressures of life place enormous strains on a marriage, which
often leave couples just “co-existing.” Married couples share the same house and spilt the
bills, but that’s about it. “Courageous Hearts” helps couples rebuild vital connections in
their marriage through clear communication and healthy ways of resolving conflicts. The
cost is $620.00 per couple (includes program, meals, and lodging). For reservations,
please call 706.368.6801, and for program information, please see Nichole Taylor.
Prayer Ministries
Come and join our “Families in Prayer” Initiative to pray for our children and families
each Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Mother’s/Family Room South.
Also, if you’re in need of special prayer, Prayer Ministries’ Team Members will meet you
today immediately following the Divine Worship Experience in the Kindergarten Room to
pray with you. Kindly be reminded that sign up sheets for the “24 Hour Prayer Chain”
Initiative are also available in the church foyer.
Substance Abuse Ministry
Our next support group meeting for substance abuse dependents and co-dependents will
be this Thursday, January 4, 2018, at 6:00 pm here at the OUC. This confidential support
group is led by experienced clinicians, Cliff and Freddie Harris.
Thank You
Dr. and Mrs. Carlton P. Byrd, along with the entire OUC Pastoral Staff and Spouses, would
like to thank the OUC Family for the wonderful Christmas gifts and expressions of love
given to them this holiday season. “We love you and are happy to serve you! Happy
Holidays!” ~ The OUC Pastoral Staff and Spouses
Senior Adult Exercise and Fall Prevention Class
