THE NOVA STAR NOVA STUDENTS HONORED The National Society of Collegiate scholars recently inducted three NOVA participants in their Honors Society. Sabrina Moore, Amber Moberly, Starlina Brown, and our very own Stephen Haggerty was inducted as an honorary member. National Society of Collegiate Scholars Meredith Veech wins the $1,000 SAEOPP scholarship! Congrats Meredith!! Page 2 The president of NSCS is Cheyenne Croney who is also a NOVA participant. In addition, Sabrina Moore has been elected as the Vice President of Public Relations. We wish them all the best in their academic endeavors. NOVA FALL 2012 GRADUATES This fall, 12 NOVA students will be graduating. Those students are Stephanie Barnett, Ashley Coffman, Chadwick Dale, Brittany Hunley, Jonathan King, Jamie McHone, Hannah Phillips, Alethea Price, Samantha Ratcliffe, Chanee Roberts, Shayna Runyan, and Samantha Toy. Page 3 TOP FREE iOS APPS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS By: Samantha Salyer 1. Career Quiz (Madison College. Education) Maybe you’re Undecided? Maybe you’re questioning your major? This app asks you a series of questions such as activities, personal qualities, and potential fields that you may be interested in. 2. Rate My Professors (MTV Networks. Education) Every semester we’re bombarded with the task of registration. After you figure out what classes to choose, you have to go through the entire process again to figure out what professor would be best for you. This app offers reviews and ratings for many professors from real students. 3. College Packing List (Slug Books, LLC. Productivity) As a college student you’re probably running to and from home all the time with weekends & breaks, making it super easy to forget things. This app gives you a list of everything you could ever think of and provides options to create your own lists and items. 4. Pocket Schedule Free (Blue Tags. Productivity) One for the busy or forgetful students! This app has a lot to offer including month and day schedules, assignments with due dates and priority levels, tasks, and courses. 5. Grades 2 (Tapity, Inc. Education) You’ve probably wondered what you need to get on assignments to get your goal grade? This app calculates it for you! You put in the number of and weight/points for exams, quizzes, and assignments along with a target overall grade and it will tell you what you need to get on every assignment to achieve your grade! Other apps to checkout: iStudiez Lite, inClass, Amazon Student, & Chegg. Waffle Desserts By Jen Caudill Have you ever gone to Powell and wondered what treat you could whip up upstairs? Well, recently Samantha Steele and I, Jen Caudill, came up with a perfect dessert. Make your waffle the way you normally would. Once it’s done, go over to the ice-cream station and fill a cup of ice cream of your choosing (I personally go with the Choco-vanilla swirl). Take an extra cup and fill it with your favorite cereal (Cocopuffs are amazing for this). Then, go back to the waffle station. Spread a little of the cream cheese or peanut butter on it. Then spread your ice-cream generously on it. After, spray some whipped cream and apply the cereal. Voila! An amazing dessert.
