Headteacher Update - November
Welcome to the first edition of what will now be a Headteacher’s monthly update as Headteachers
across Education South West provide our local community with an update of key events that have
been occurring throughout the month.
In this November edition, the theme surrounds one of our key five values of community. Just recently,
I’m sure you have seen some of the pictures online and in social media, we hosted another extremely
successful remembrance assembly. The whole school gathered in the sports hall in the presence of
invited guests from the armed forces as well as the mayor of Newton Abbot and many members of our
governing body, Trust Board and parent focus group. Together, as a school, we remembered the
sacrifices of those who fought for the freedoms that we value here in this country as well as those who
continue to risk their lives for democracy both here and across the world.
I would also like to take this opportunity to update you with some key dates in relation to the ongoing
charity work at Coombeshead Academy:

17 th November – Children in Need
Events took place at social times ran by year groups raising money for the charity
8 th December – Coombeshead Academy Christmas Fayre
Our annual festive fayre raising money for school funds
15 th December – Christmas Jumper Day
Raising money for both Save the Children and a local hospice supporting children at Christmas
time
We also have a number of events taking place across the local community, such as our performing
artists performing in local residential homes and our musicians playing to Christmas shoppers in Newton
Abbot town centre this Saturday 25 th November from 10am-3pm.
There are also some key dates and events taking place in December as we lead towards the end of
the half term with the BTEC performing arts pantomime on Wednesday 6 th December and Thursday 7 th
December at 6pm and our Christmas concert on Wednesday 13 th December at 7pm. Tickets are on
sale now and available via reception or the Expressive Arts department. Pupils will also be visiting local
primary schools in the area for our annual Christmas theatre in education tour.
None of these events would be possible without the
outstanding support we receive from parents,
guardians and wider community and I would like to
personally thank you for all your generosity at this
time of year to some very worthy causes as we look
to deepen our understanding of one of our core
values of community, that is so important for all our
pupils to take ownership of.
Yours sincerely,
ANDREW HULBERT
