27 th & 28 th February 2018
Improve International Alexandra House Swindon
Taught by Alasdair Hotston-Moore, of Vale Referrals, this is a practical based course that is aimed at practitioners
interested in introducing more advanced techniques into their practices. Adapted to meet the needs of the
delegates attending, we expect to include hepatobiliary surgery, thoracic surgery (thoracotomy, pericardectomy,
oesophagostomy, lung lobectomy) and ENT surgery (laryngoplasty, BOAS, TECA, VBO).
Participants will be working in busy practices and taking the lead in developing the range of surgeries offered to their
client base. For those with an existing post grad qualification it will offer the chance to review their skills and
techniques with a group of peers, and for those who have not yet had the chance to undertake post grad training it
is an excellent opportunity to learn some key procedures in a small group under the supervision of a experienced
surgeon and teacher.
The course will start at 10am on day one and finish at 3.30pm on day two. Course fees are £750.
I attended this course and it was just what I needed to give me the confidence to get back
into practice after 4 years out. The online modules which come with it are excellent - available
to watch when you choose and packed with the right level of information. I would definitely
recommend this to any vet who is looking to get back into practice.
In practice Skill Development
Delivered by Alasdair Hotston Moore
Alasdair Hotston Moore, who will be known to many practitioners by reputation as a soft tissue surgeon and
lecturer, has recently joined the IVC Learning & Development team on a part time basis, in addition to working as
a Referral Surgeon at Vale Referrals.
As well as teaching on the IVC Vet Academy, Graduate programme and Vet Evolve courses, Alasdair has a
roving brief to visit IVC practices to offer support and training in surgical/endoscopy skills. For example, if
you are setting up laparoscopy he will spend a day with you reviewing your equipment and assisting with cases.
He can also offer other informal training, or if you want to get a group of clinicians together for a formal session,
perhaps including other local practices, he can offer a range of topics for learning.
This can be used for CPD or you might think about using the sessions to develop local practice networking.
If you're interested, speak to your BSM or contact Sally Clark sclark@independentvetcare.co.uk or
AHotstonMoore@independentvetcare.co.uk to talk through how we can work together. There is small daily charge
of £300 to encourage the practice to make best use of his time!
