course had been milled off – a task that
took eight large Wirtgen W 210i milling
machines two days to complete. The
day was chosen deliberately because
only on a Sunday was it possible to
transport the required 10,500 tonnes of
asphalt from five mixing plants on the
otherwise busy Dutch motorways in a
single day. It took a fleet of 130 trucks
to complete the job.
Further afield, Thailand is witnessing a
high number of road construction
projects after the government made
structural reform a national agenda and
launched several important initiatives.
One of the initiatives is the development
of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)
in a bid to develop the country’s eastern
provinces into a leading ASEAN
economic zone. Public expenditure is
significant, with the 2017/18 budget
allocating $30.4 million to the
Department of Rural Highways for roads
upgrades.
Siripriboon Pattanakarn, the
subcontractor for motorway projects in
Thailand, recently utilised a Dynapac
SD2500CS paver and CP275 rollers in the
resurfacing of motorway route 7. The
Dynapac SD2500CS has a high number of
rollers inside the tracks to improve the
manoeuvrability on curves. Moreover,
the Alpha tracks make more ground
contact for better traction and longer life,
while a hydraulic anti-shock push roller
avoids typical marks on the surface due
to truck docking.
Compaction is precision work,
especially compaction near the edges.
