EDITORIAL FOCUS ON ROAD CONSTRUCTION
are wider than the frame, sparing
customers the need for a smaller roller.
Precha Wannakohn, project manager at
Siripriboon Pattanakarn, says: “Dynapac
machines are strong and reliable, create
smooth paving and are very easy to
operate. The resulting flatness due to the
heavy weight of the rollers is perfect for
our road projects.”
From an innovation perspective,
among the recent market entrants in the
road-construction arena is the SD45B
single-drum soil compactor from Volvo
Construction Equipment. Principally
designed for commercial and residential
site development, utility installations,
driveways, and
landscaping jobs, the
SD45B provides up
to 12° of oscillation
and 41° of frame
articulation in each
direction. To
optimise
performance, the
optional Volvo
strike-off blade and
pad-foot shell kit
further help to match
the application and
material type.
The fully
integrated traction system provides
superior climbing capabilities, even on
steep inclines or slippery surfaces.
Furthermore, Volvo’s drum system
enables the operator to achieve target
density in fewer passes by combining a
heavy drum weight, high amplitude
(1.99mm) and high centrifugal force
(93kN). When the machine is returned to
neutral, the vibration system
automatically shuts off, preventing overcompaction
and simplifying operation.
Clearly, achieving smooth passage
when it comes to road-construction
projects relies heavily on smart
machinery choices.
