He also made his One Day International (ODI) debut. During the 1991-1992<br />
tour of Australia. He made one hundred forty eight runs in one match and one<br />
hundred fourteen in another, batting against great batsmen of that time like<br />
Merv Hughes , Craig Mcdermott and Bruce Reid . Asked to open the batting<br />
against New Zealand in 1994 in an ODI , Sachin scored eighty two of just<br />
forty nine balls. The very same year he made his maiden ODI century against<br />
Australia. In 1998 , Australia was on a tour to India and the series was hyped<br />
as Sachin Tendulkar vs Shane Warne contest. Sachin blasted Warne in the series<br />
and made two centuries in the three test series.<br />
He took over as the captain in 1996 but the team performed poorly so he gave<br />
up the captaincy in 1997 .In the 2003 world cup, Sachin performed stupendously<br />
scoring six hundred seventy three runs in eleven matches making India<br />
reach the finals . However, India lost to Australia in the finals, Sachin received<br />
the Man of the Tournament for his performance . After going through a difficult<br />
phase , he made a strong comeback by scoring 11,000 test runs in 2007 to<br />
become the leading run scorer from India. In the Border –Gavaskar trophy<br />
2007-2008, he scored four hundred ninety three runs in four tests , demonstrating<br />
his unbelievable batting skills. Sachin was again at his best in 2011 world<br />
cup during which he made four hundred eighty two runs including two centuries<br />
. India had won against Sri Lanka in the finals . It was Sachin’s first world<br />
cup victory . His form faltered after the world cup and he went through a lean<br />
phase . He retired from all formats of cricket in 2013 and was given a very<br />
emotional farewell by the fans.<br />
