SELECTIVE WEED CONTROL<br />

Selective weed control is really<br />

important if you want to maximise<br />

not only the aesthetic appeal of<br />

your natural surfaces, but also the<br />

playability and resistance to wear.<br />

SCARIFYING<br />

Scarifying removes thatch and<br />

dead moss, and will also prune<br />

the shoots of the grass plant<br />

which will encourage stronger<br />

growth.<br />

TOPDRESS<br />

Top-dressing will correct surface<br />

irregularities and improve the<br />

texture of difficult soils. This<br />

encourages greater rooting and<br />

thickening of grass.<br />

OVERSEEDING<br />

Overseeding will help in-fill<br />

damaged or thinned areas,<br />

improve the aesthetics and colour,<br />

and reduce weed and moss<br />

invasion.<br />

FERTILISER<br />

Through rain or irrigation<br />

nutrients will over time leech out<br />

of soil, Fertilising will prevent<br />

nutrient deficiency and disease<br />

and will encourage healthy<br />

growth.<br />

VERTIDRAIN<br />

Vertidraining de-compacts soil by<br />

using tines to penetrate the ground<br />

allowing water and air to disperse to<br />

the grass roots, this alleviates growth<br />

issues by allowing air into the root<br />

system.<br />

SOIL TESTING<br />

Soil testing will identify<br />

contaminated soil, diseases and<br />

nutrient deficiences and will assist<br />

with the implementation of the<br />

required fertiliser programme.<br />

MOWING<br />

Grass should be maintained at<br />

between 25 & 30 mm in the<br />

playing season to ensure a safe<br />

and playable suface<br />

MARKING<br />

Line marking of sports pitches is<br />

required to ensure a fully visible<br />

playing area. How often a pitch is<br />

over-marked varies with usage<br />

and conditions.
