Irene Tefka Becker
Irene Tefka Becker, 95, of Northbrook, died. She
was the dearly beloved wife of the late Maurice
Tefka; cherished mother of Ruth (Earle) Horwitz
and Edward (Bonnie) Tefka; devoted grandmother
to David (Barb) Lotsoff, Mathew (Karyn) Tefka
and Elyse (Scott) Radford; “GG” to Moriah and
Micah Lotsoff, Addison, Paige and Ryan Tefka,
and Peyton, Taylor and Camden Radford.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to
charity of choice.
George R. McKay Jr.
George Robert “Bob” McKay Jr.,
85, of Northbrook, died Jan. 5.
He was the beloved husband of Janet nee Gustafson;
loving father of James (Rachel) McKay,
Deborah (Michael) Kennedy and Thomas (Lisa)
McKay; cherished grandfather of Matthew Kennedy,
Brian Kennedy, Shannon (Brent) Shiver,
Michael Kennedy II, Ryan (Nicole) McKay, Connor
McKay, Patrick McKay, Maddie McKay and
Nina McKay; adoring great-grandfather of Jackson
Shiver; and proud papa of Tsunami.
McKay was born in Chicago and grew up in
Evanston. He graduated from Northwestern University,
where he played football. After college,
he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War
and remained in the Naval Reserves in the years
following. While in the Naval Reserves McKay
became a banker, which became his career. McKay
was always very active and was an avid skier,
sailor and fisherman.

Phillip R. Peterson
Phillip R. Peterson, 88, of Northbrook, died Jan.
3.
He was the beloved husband for 58 years of
Patricia Peterson nee Galbreath; loving father of
Sue Peterson, Sally (Kevin) McCarthy and Sandy
(Paul) Veith; cherished grandfather of Wallis and
Remy Peterson, Molly and Katie McCarthy, Eric,
Lauren and Ryan Veith; fond brother of Larry Peterson
(Brenda Bazan), David (Judy) Peterson, and
the late Sharon (David) Brostrom.
Peterson was a CPA and received a B.S. in Accounting
and Finance from Bradley University
where he was a member of Pi Gamma Mu National
Honorary Society and the Federation of Bradley
Scholars. He was selected for recognition in the
1950-51 Who’s Who Among Students in American
Universities and Colleges.
