and find the program. Participants may also register by calling the library<br />

SPECIAL EVENTS<br />
• INCOME-TAX-PREPARATION ASSISTANCE - Fridays, 1-4 PM, Meeting<br />
Room. Representatives from the AARP will provide free income-taxpreparation<br />
assistance for low-income taxpayers. Patrons should bring<br />
the following information to the session if possible: photo ID; Social<br />
Security card(s) for self, spouse and all dependents; last year’s tax return;<br />
W-2, 1099s and any other compensation received in 2017; unemployment<br />
compensation statements; and any other documents that are necessary<br />
to complete your return. This service is free and open to the public on a<br />
first-come, first-served basis. Income-tax forms are no longer available at<br />
the libraries, but patrons may use the libraries’ computers and printers<br />
to download and print out the forms from the IRS website, www.irs.gov,<br />
during regular library hours. A library card is needed to use the printers<br />
and the cost to print is 10¢ per black-and-white page.<br />
• YA: DRAWING WITH DOODLES, DANGLES & TANGLES - Monday,<br />
<strong>February</strong> 5 th , 5 PM, Meeting Room. In this Young Adult program, teens<br />
in grades 9 through 12 will exercise their imaginations by creating<br />
masterpieces of art by simply drawing doodles, dangles and tangles!<br />
Materials for this program are made possible by the generous support of<br />
the Friends of the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library.<br />
• GETTING YOUR VEGETABLE GARDEN GROWING - Monday, <strong>February</strong><br />
12 th , 6-7:45 PM, Meeting Room. Fort Bend County Master Gardener and<br />
Vegetable Specialist Ralph Fuller will provide an overview of spring<br />
vegetable gardening. Learn how to plan the layout and location of your<br />
garden for optimal sun, shade and drainage. Get tips on containergardening,<br />
row-gardening and on preparing your garden with soil<br />
amendments and compost. Fuller will also talk about varieties of plants<br />
that grow well in the area and their growing seasons. Learn about<br />
Integrated Pest Management practices and how to set up a maintenance<br />
schedule for watering, fertilizing, weeding and pest- and disease-control<br />
measures.<br />
• INTRODUCTION TO GOOGLE DOCS - Monday, <strong>February</strong> 19 th , 6 PM or<br />
Thursday, <strong>February</strong> 22 nd , 10 AM, Meeting Room. Google Docs is a wordprocessing<br />
computer application that is part of a free, web-based software<br />

office suite offered by Google. The app is compatible with Microsoft Office<br />
and it allows users to create and edit files online while collaborating with<br />
other users in real-time. Those attending the class will set up a Google<br />
account and learn how to create, edit and collaborate on documents<br />
online using the Google Docs application. If a Google account has already<br />
been created, bring the related information to the class. Those attending<br />
the class are encouraged to bring their own laptop, but if one is not<br />
available, the library has a limited number of laptop computers that can<br />
be used. Reservations are requested.<br />
• FULSHEAR BOOK CLUB - Monday, <strong>February</strong> 19 th , 12 Noon, Meeting<br />
Room. The book to be discussed is They May Not Mean To, But They Do, a<br />
novel written by Cathleen Schine.<br />
• FULSHEAR NIGHT READERS GUILD - Monday, <strong>February</strong> 26 th , 6:30 PM,<br />
Meeting Room. The book to be discussed is Shadow Divers: The True<br />
Adventure of Two Americans Who Risked Everything to Solve One of the<br />
Last Mysteries of World War II, written by Robert Kurson.<br />
Weekly CHILDREN’S PROGRAM<br />
• Toddler Time - Tuesdays at 10:15 AM, offers caregiver/child activities,<br />
stories and songs for older babies, from 12 to 36 months of age.<br />
• Story Time - Wednesdays at 10:15 AM, 3 to 6 years of age, presents<br />
stories, movies and participate in age-appropriate craft activities.<br />
• After-School Breaks - 2 nd Thursday at 4:30 PM. Crafts, movies, stories<br />
for school-aged children in grades 1 through 5. The program on <strong>February</strong><br />
8 th will be “Winter Watercolor Wonder.” Participants will paint a “birch<br />
tree” scene. Materials for this activity are provided through the generous<br />
support of the Friends of the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library.<br />
• B.U.S: BUILD UPON STORIES - Saturday, <strong>February</strong> 3 rd , 10 AM. In this<br />
Family Reading Club event, families with children of all ages will listen<br />
to stories and then have an opportunity to visit several project-based<br />
learning stations that will incorporate STEM activities with the stories that<br />
were told. Materials for this activity are provided through the generous<br />
support of the Friends of the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library.<br />
