HOW TO
STAY WIDE
AWAKE
AT WORK
Before we give you
tips on how to stay
awake, let’s
address the issue -
why are you
sleepy? Let’s solve
the initial problem.
Take care of yourself
and get your
eight hours of
sleep; trust us, you
need it.
You might always feel tired and
sleepy because:
1. You stay up too late…we all do this
2. You have a bad and unhealthy diet
3. You’re addicted to coffee
4. You have poor sleeping patterns
5. You have disturbed sleep, waking up a
couple of times at night
Now tips for staying awake:
1. Keep moving! If you’re
finding it hard to keep
your eyes open, move a
little. Walk around your
office for a few minutes.
There are
studies that prove that taking short
walks increases your energy levels!
That should definitely wake you up.
2. Music will do the trick! Plug in
your earphones and listen to your
favorite songs, hopefully
something upbeat to wake you
up.
3. Stretch, stretch, stretch!
Can’t emphasize this enough.
Take a break and do
a few simple stretches. This
should get you energized again.
4. Healthy snacks. If you’re
feeling sleepy and tired, you need
to refuel and what’s better than a
healthy snack.Try some nuts, fruits,
and vegetables.
5. Acupressure is proven to work.
Try applying some pressure on
points such as your earlobes, the
back of your knees,
the top of your head,
the back of your neck, and
between your thumb and index
finger.
6. Use your sense of smell.
Apparently smells like peppermint will boost
your energy! Either use a hand cream or burn a
candle with different scents.
7. Give your eyes a break!
Having your eyes glued to your
screen can cause headaches and
fatigue. You probably didn’t
notice, but you’ve been on your
computer for a couple of hours, so do
something else for a couple of
minutes, and you’ll feel ready to
tackle the next few hours of work.
8. Engage in conversation. Give
a few minutes to yourself and call
someone, talk about something
that interests you! You’ll feel energized again
9. If all fails, head over to the bathroom and
splash your face with some cold
water, grab a cup of coffee, and
you should be okay for the next
few hours!
10. Lastly, try
getting some sleep
the night before... Obviously!Good
luck!
Mobile applications – or apps – have
become an integral part of our lives.
A new mobile app is developed almost
every day somewhere on our planet
and it is quite a challenge to stay
updated on all of them. While most
of us have a bunch of popular apps
already downloaded on our mobile
phone, there are some surprisingly
useful apps that may have been in
the market for some time but are not
always in the limelight.
In this edition of The Dot, we thought
of writing about some apps that may
not be found on everyone’s phone but,
we think, can make life easy and fun.
My Car locator
Have you ever parked
your car and forgot
where you parked it, and
spend the next 10-20
minutes trying to locate it?
This happens to everybody
some time or the other. Download the ‘My
car locator’ app and you will never have to
wander around lost.
My Car Locator is the easiest to use free car
locators in the Google Play Store, with all
essential information displayed at all times.
It uses your GPS to remember where you
parked your vehicle and with the push of
one button, it will guide you back. Arrows
guide you in the proper direction,
remembers how long you have been
parked, and provides walking directions
back to your car.
Photomath
PhotoMath is a nifty little
app. You point your phone
camera at a math
equation, and it will give
you the answer and show
you all the steps to solve
the particular equation.
Photomath supports arithmetic, integers,
fractions, decimal numbers, roots, algebraic
expressions, linear equations/inequations,
quadratic equations/inequations, absolute
equations/inequations, systems of
equations, logarithms, trigonometry,
exponential and logarithmic functions,
derivatives and integrals
Blinkist
Do you ever look at a
book and think it is way
too long and will take
forever to read? What if
there was a mobile app to
shorten it for you? You don’t
have to read it cover-to-cover, yet you get
the key insight from the book.
Well, there is one such app. It’s called
Blinkist. The app team reads books, pulls out
the key insights, and explains them in an
easy-to-digest way - transforming it into
powerful packs you can read or listen to in
just 15 minutes.
Wunderlist
Wunderlist is a simple todo
list and task manager
app that helps you get
stuff done, both personal
and professional. Whether
you’re sharing a grocery list with a family
member, working on a project or planning a
vacation, Wunderlist makes it easy to list,
share and complete your to-dos. Wunderlist
instantly syncs between your phone, tablet
and computer, allowing you to access your
to-do list from anywhere.
Headspace
This app simplifies the art
of meditation. You can
find guided meditations
suitable for all levels from
Headspace. The app
teaches you the basics of
meditation and mindfulness with Take10,
Headspace's free introductory series. With
10 sessions of 10 minutes each, you'll learn
how to train your mind for a happier,
healthier life. Meditation can help improve
your focus, exercise mindful awareness,
relieve anxiety and reduce stress.
Posture
Sitting at the computer for
hours and being
engrossed in one’s
smartphone is causing
most of us to develop
terrible posture.
‘Posture’ is a really clever app. It makes use
of some of the sensors on your device in a
way that makes your physical posture better.
Based on your gyroscope, accelerator and
camera data, it analyzes whether your
posture is correct or not. If it’s not correct,
the app will prompt you and help you avoid
severe back and neck pain and possible
injuries
7 Minutes Workout
We all agree that fitness
& health is of prime
importance in our lives.
Yet, due to lack of time,
most of us put exercising
at the bottom of our
priority list. The 7 Minutes fitness App solves
the time problem for us. Designed with your
busy life in mind, this App claims to be able
to transform your body for a mere seven
minutes a day. No excuses any more!
