Valentine’s Day is Out.
Palentine’s Day is in.
t all began in the 16th episode
of the second season of the TV
show Parks and Recreation. In
the episode, protagonist, Leslie
Knope (portrayed by Amy Poehler)
celebrates Valentine’s Day a
day early, on February 13th with her
best gal pals and coins the term “Galentines
Day.” Since then, Galentines
Day has spread like wildfire. Every
year, on February 13th, Instagram
feeds are all ablaze with ladies getting
together for Rosé, macaroons, and
balloon / confetti-filled photo shoots.
The craze has really taken off, there
are now Galentines day gift guides
(Real Simple even published one),
party guides, and cakes made just for
the occasion. It’s a great way for girls
to come together and celebrate their
love for each other regardless of if
they’re in a relationship or not.
However, it’s 2018 and it’s time to
create a more gender inclusive ver-
sion of Galentine’s Day, I mean why
can’t men enjoy a little bromance
too? After all, men are known to be
less comfortable expressing emotion
and their love for each other, so having
a holiday dedicated to that would
mean only good things!
Since this will be the year of your
inaugural Palentine’s Day, we recommend
making it really special by
throwing a Palentine’s Day party for
all your pals – one that they won’t forget!
Swap the chocolates for wings,
the champagne for artisan beer, and
have a movie or poker night. It will
be the perfect way to let your friends
know how much you love them, a
great way to participate in the rising
trend of Galentine’s and Palentine’s
Day. Plus, your friends won’t give you
as much shit for hanging out with
your significant other on Feb 14th.
