Activity name: Mental mapping<br />
Aim of the activity: To show<br />
how youngster live cities and<br />
what are the problems they<br />
experience<br />
Timing: Approximately 2 hours<br />
Materials: Papers post-it, pens,<br />
felt pens, pencils<br />
Methods step by step: The activity is very easy and does not require any specific prior knowledge.<br />
It can be divided in 3 moments.<br />
1. Introduction. The methodology is explained. Participants are asked to draw a map of their<br />
city/neighborhood according to their personal life as youngsters. They do not have to<br />
follow any physical element or cardinal points, but only express their subjectivity. They<br />
can use colors, post-its and various types of paper and they can also use their smartphone<br />
if they wish.<br />
2. Activity. Participants draw their map individually or in small groups (2/3 people). It would<br />
be best to have a facilitator per each group.<br />
Discussion. Participants discuss their maps together with the facilitators and try to describe what<br />
they depicted. It might be useful to arrive to a general conclusion which includes the most<br />
important elements of each map.<br />
Learning outcomes: Participants will develop several competences with this activity:<br />
– Problem solving skills<br />
– Ability to express their thoughts with creativity<br />
– Awareness of the surroundings<br />
– Ability to discuss what they wanted to<br />

Tangible results: Mental mapping would help youngsters to understand what advantages and<br />
drawbacks mark their life in the city and how to solve them.
