…a word from our President!
Hi Corvetter’s:
Hope everyone is having a good time.
Lots of runs coming up. Should be a
good year. Super bowl coming up
Sunday. Hope everyone has a good
time. I am having my second bout with
the flu. And it is bad.
This is one the happiest clubs I have ever
been in. Stay happy and if things are not
good, just tell yourself: IT JUST DOESN’T
MATTER. Stay good and stay gold.
Your President,
General Meeting Minutes 1-16-18
Ah. Another baby picture!
The General Meeting was called to order by
President Andy Anderson at 6:30pm. Minutes from
the December meeting were read. Lupe’s sister
joined us at the November meeting not her sisterin-law.
With the correction – Mike Lebda made a
motion to accept the minutes. Mike Henenfent
seconded. Darlene Derringer gave the Treasurer’s
report. Tonight’s raffle brought in $235. Winners
of the $50 bills were Ruthie Danielsen (that makes
2!!!!!) and Jill Kroeker.
VP of Activities, Dick Danielsen went over the past
activities. 34 members attended Roy Whitson’s
Celebration of Life. While a lot that was said, we
already knew, we found out Roy was a prankster
and heard about some of his pranks. Future events
include Movie night on January 24 th , Super Bowl
Party at the Lebda’s. Valentine dinner at
Cattlemen’s in Selma on Feb 11 th . And don’t forget
the Laughlin Run in April. The women are putting
together a Domino’s Run to Napa to support Judy
Capurro. It will either be at the end of February or
the beginning of March. Stay tuned.
VP of Public Relations, Dick Johnson welcomed
our newest members, the Estrada’s minus Bob
sponsored by Diane Tjerrild. We voted on Roger
and Valerie Merritt. We all said yes!! Birthdays
totaled 671 years and Anniversaries totaled 197
years. 2 couples the Comers and the Hayes are
recognizing 50+ years. The Hayes received a $25
gift card from Panera for
having been married the
longest this month – 53
years!! Congratulations.
Dick also reminded us to
shred our old rosters not
just throw away. There is private information on
them. Also, a reminder to bring in those
insurance cards when members renewals come
up during the year. Chuck Laningham collected
$4.50 in badge fines. Debbie Garrison gave her
sunshine and Clouds report. Connie Olson has
fallen and broken several bones in her hand. She
is now in rehab at the Genesis complex on
Alluvial in Fresno. We are all whirling from the
many passings of past and present members.
One bright spot was Craig and Darlene
Derringer’s announcement of a grand baby at a
mere 10# plus. Please keep Ruthie Danielsen in
your prayers as she has surgery January 29 th . The
Hayes attended the wedding of their 3 rd
grandson this past weekend.
Tonights baby picture belongs to Lynne
Henenfent. 7 people guessed correctly but only
one winner. That would be Emily Piercy.
Old Business – Diane Tjerrild thanked everyone
for their generous donations of coats and
blankets. This year 1200 items were collected
for Catholic Charities compared to 900 items
last year. It has been decided – if you wear your
club logo shirt that has your name on it, you do
NOT have to wear your name badge.
New Business – None
Next Board meeting will be at The Danielsen’s,
Tuesday, January 23 rd , 7pm. Scott Parkin made
a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:27pm.
Bob Peluso seconded. Respectfully submitted,
Terry Johnson, Secretary
David Sons Dad Hollis Sons passed away and Julie sent us the note below:
“We were very shocked to hear the news that many of our past and present Corvette family
loved ones have passed on and our hearts are with each one who have lost their loved ones. I'm
sure you had heard that David's Dad Hollis also lost his fight on December 28th after a long 3-
week fight in the ICU. David was at the hospital with his mom from sunup to sundown and after
so many countless hours to and from the hospital he inevitably caught a nasty bug. On top of all
the stress and madness he came down with the flu and had a fever, body aches and
coughing. He was so nice that once he had enough of it he gave it to me so right now I am a bit
under the weather myself. I think you will be hearing a lot of similar news this month and that
many in the club have been hit hard with some sort of ailment, because it's a bad flu
season. Needless-to-say, David's Mom is living with us now and she is very emotional and cries
a lot. Hollis and she had been married over 70 years and she was only 14 years old when they
married, so I guess it is a bit understandable she is super sad. Unfortunately, she also has early
stages of Alzheimer's which makes it even more difficult to give her the care she needs but we
are taking it day by day for now. I hope all is well with everyone in the club and we look forward
to seeing you all someday soon. I'm just not sure when we might be able to fit it in. Hugs to all
and Happy 2018.”
Our dear friend Roy Whitson’s Celebration of Life was on January 13 th with 34 members
attending. It was great tribute to Roy’s memory with many speakers made up of friends and coworkers.
Our own Patrick and Keith said a few words about what a great guy he was. We found
out many things about Roy we didn’t know, for one thing we found out that our Roy was a
prankster. I guess with all the jokesters in the club he didn’t need to show that side of him. As
we all know he was a gentle man with a great a personality and always had a smile on his face
no matter what he was going through. I know one thing for sure, we didn’t have enough time
with him and he will be missed.
Mary Ann sent a note expressing her appreciation to all the club members who also
attended. “She said it was a loving show of support and respect for Roy, for which I am so
grateful. He worked so hard all his life that he took little time to play, but got so much
enjoyment from club activities and friends.”
Past Member Rick Tavares’ Memorial Service was also on January 13 th . Rick was remembered as
a terrific guy, funny, smart, known for his love of hunting, fishing, barbecuing and his family. He
was a great son, brother, husband, dad, Grandpa and friend. He loved entertaining and loved
being a member of Portuguese Hall in Easton and a member of Central Valley Corvettes and had
kept many mementos from his time in the Club. 11 members were able to attend his services.
Past Member Gordon Capurro also passed away unexpectedly on Dec 30 th, after spending time
at the Kaiser Hospital in Napa. He passed away due to complications from an infection after
injuring himself in a fall. He was 78, he was laid to rest in Napa on January 8 th.
Another Past Member Stan Quall passed away on December 29 th from a brain aneurysm. Stan
and his wife Cheramy were very active members of CVC in the early days with both serving on
the Board.
Services for Stan were held in Caruthers on January 20 th . The Laningham’s, Garrahan’s and the
Garrison’s were able to attend.
Connie Olson fell and broke several bones in her hand and had surgery on Jan 3 rd . Connie spent
2 weeks in the hospital and then was transferred to the Genesis Rehab Facility. She will spend
two weeks there and then Don is hoping that she will be able to have rehab at home.
Ed Kroeker had a wonderful Christmas surrounded by his family only to fall into a door frame
when he got back, tearing the skin on his arm and necessitating another ambulance trip to the
ER for treatment with Joyce and Jill. Thank goodness, his injury is healing well. He’s not walking
much but is able to sit in his wheel chair and is able join the others for dinner.
Right at Christmas time Ruthie also had to take a couple of ambulance rides to the hospital. She
developed a high fever and some confusion and was taken by ambulance to hospital where they
ran tests and she was able to return home that day. She woke the next morning once more with
a high fever so off again she went in the ambulance to the hospital where they hooked her up
with an IV and gave her meds. She recovered and was able to join us on our New Year’s Day
lunch.
Mike and Diane Hayes sent me a note that their third grandson and his high school sweetheart
were married on January 13 th . They made a beautiful couple and it was a beautiful
wedding. That is three grandchildren married, five more to go, but we she said there’s plenty of
time.
The Henenfent’s and Lebda’s are heading to Hawaii for 10 days. They will be spending 3 days in
Honolulu, while there they will be touring Pearl Harbor. Then they will be taking a 7-day cruise
around the 4 main islands.
Emily Piercy is taking Tom to Hawaii for two weeks to celebrate his birthday later this month.
Will expect a full report on all the fun they had next month.
Staying in the Hawaii mode; I received this report from Kim and Charlie. They left for 9 days in
Kauai with family for sunshine and fun. 4 days into their trip Kim broke out with hives
everywhere and spent a miserable night and Charlie had to take her to an urgent care the next
morning. But nothing compared to the terror they all felt Saturday morning when they all
received emergency messages on our phones that a ballistic missile was inbound for Hawaii and
it was not a drill. All 9 of their family, including a 3 & a 4-year-old huddled in a bathroom
thinking it was the end and trying to stay calm and not scare the kids. They had the TV on and
the emergency system kept saying it was not a drill and to seek shelter and the inbound missile
would hit within 10 to15 minutes. They said a lot goes through your mind during a time like that
when you have no control. 38 minutes later a message came out that it had been a mistake. We
are thankful it was a mistake but it was really hard to get back to normal for quite a while. They
usually wish our vacations last longer but they were glad to head home the next day.
Congratulations to Craig and Darlene Derringer as they welcome a new grandson to the family.
This is Craig’s daughters’ first child; his name is Cassius Gabriel he weighed in at 10 pounds 2 oz.
born on December 23rd. What a great Christmas present!
Please remember if you have any Sunshine News you want to share throughout the month just
email me your news.
Thanks to all. Have a great month.
Happy New Year!!!
Blessings to all, Your Sunshine Girl, Debbie G.

GM and Chevrolet offered two first retail production Corvette models for auction at Barrett-
Jackson on January 20, 2018 raising a total of $2.325 million to benefit military veterans.
First up on the auction block was the Corvette Carbon 65 Edition coupe signed by President George W. Bush was bought by John
Staluppi, owner of Atlantic Automotive Group, for $1.4 million. The proceeds will benefit the Bush Center’s Military Service Initiative.
The primary goal of the Military Service Initiative is to ensure post-9/11 veterans and their families make successful transitions to
civilian life with a focus on gaining meaningful employment and overcoming the invisible wounds of war.
The
Corvette ZR1, the fastest, most powerful production Corvette ever built, was bought by Rick Hendrick, chairman of Hendrick
Automotive Group and owner of 12-time NASCAR Cup Series champions Hendrick Motorsports, for $925,000. The auction
proceeds will benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the work it does to support wounded veterans through the
Building for America’s Bravest program. “GM and Chevrolet are proud to honor and support the brave men and women of our armed
forces,” said Steve Hill, GM vice president of U.S. Sales and Service.
2019 National Corvette Caravan
All roads lead to Bowling Green, Kentucky for the 25th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum
Frequently Asked Questions, Lodging, Parking, Select a State, Outside USA, News, Caravan Merchandise
Often referred to as the world’s largest moving automotive event, the National Corvette Caravan is a
celebration of America’s Sports Car, culminating in Bowling Green, Kentucky for the anniversary
celebration of the National Corvette Museum. Hosted only once every five years, the next event is
slated for Labor Day Weekend 2019 and will mark the Museum’s 25th Anniversary. Leading the charge
will be Jeffrey Duda of Hainesport, NJ, a Lifetime Member of the Museum and previous co-captain of
the New Jersey 2014 and 2009 Caravans.
The 6th National Corvette Caravan is slated for August 28-31, 2019. Regional caravans will form
and join other caravans as they travel across the United States to meet in Bowling Green, Kentucky
for four days of festivities at the National Corvette Museum. An event such as this requires years of
planning and coordinating. All help is appreciated! If you would like to volunteer to be a Caravan
Captain, please email Jeff at nationalchairman2019@verizon.net
The Museum is located at I-65, exit 28 in South Central Kentucky and is open daily, 8-5 Central Time.
Pacific Central
Northern California, Northern Nevada, Utah
This is a revised post to the home page for the Northern California – Northern Nevada – Utah
section of the 2014 National Corvette Caravan. I am Don Herzer, Publications Director for the Western
States Corvette Council (WSCC). I served as Captain of the NorCal section of the 2014 Caravan. Since
we had a great time for the most part, they asked me to return as Captain for 2019.
I have elected to give our section a nickname – Pacific Central Corvette Caravan – which is easily
further shortened to Pacific Central and PCCC.
This is much less cumbersome than listing the whole three states. Also, if I shorten it to NorCal (as I
did in 2014), then N. Nevada and Utah feel left out. Please note that even if you are not going all the
way to Bowling Green, you are welcome to join in the Caravan out of CA as far as you like, or just join
us at the launch site (TBD), as many have done in the past.
Our Route: Contrary to my initial posting, I have decided against replicating the 2014 itinerary.
Instead we will take a new route favoring scenic less travelled roads, with fun activities and visits to
unique places along the way. I am still ironing out the details, but here is a rough outline:
• Day 1: We will launch in the morning on Thurs. 8/22 somewhere in the Fairfield area and take
highway 50 through the Sierra, arriving in Carson City in time for lunch and maybe other
activities, and then head to Fallon, NV for other activities and spend the night.
• Day 2 (Friday 8/23): We will travel to Salina, UT along the Loneliest Hiway in the US, with fun
activities TBD.
• Day 3 (Saturday 8/24): Tentatively set to end in Estes Park, CO, Travelling through Rocky Mt.
Ntl. Park.
• Day 4 (Sunday 8/25): Activities around Golden, CO. Overnight in Fort Morgan, CO.
• Day 5 (Monday 8/26): End up in St. Joseph, MO.
• Day 6 (Tuesday 8/27): Get to Effingham, IL and visit Mid-America.
• Day 7 (Wednesday 8/28): On to Bowling Green. We will link up with the So. CA section before
entering Bowling Green so there will be a combined CA/NV group entering the NCM.
Registration for both the Caravan and the festivities is not open at this time. Note that the 2019
Corvette Caravan and the NCM 25th Anniversary are two separate events, each with their own
registration, which is expected to be available on the NCM web site starting in mid-Sept. In the
meantime, I will be working on blocking sets of rooms at hotels along the route, but I don’t expect
registration to be available until approximately fall of 2018. I will be compiling all this and much
more into a Route Book that will be available to registered participants Spring 2019.
If you are serious about going on this section of the Caravan, please send me an email
so I can keep you informed about lodging and optional activities that we may set up.
You can help promote the Caravan by decorating your car with a window sticker, flag(s), and/or a
and availability. If you would like to volunteer to help me in this venture, I would welcome that. I
will also be looking for sponsors to help defray some of the costs. Keep in mind that any donations
