ART215 American Art History<br />

This course is a survey of American art forms from Early Colonial times to<br />

the present day. The primary focus is on the emergence of Western<br />

European art traditions <strong>and</strong> how they became part of the art of the U.S.A.<br />

Study will include occasional <strong>and</strong> brief interactions with the cultures of India,<br />

China, Japan, the native Americas, Africa, <strong>and</strong> the South Pacific. Students<br />

will explore how America's cultural, political, <strong>and</strong> religious ideals are reflected<br />

in its visual arts. Three hours.<br />

ART220 Ceramics I<br />

An introduction to the study of ceramics as a three-dimensional medium.<br />

Through h<strong>and</strong>-constructed <strong>and</strong> wheel-thrown clay forms, students will<br />

explore issues in contemporary art. Ceramics processes will include<br />

glazing <strong>and</strong>. Three hours.<br />

ART230 Basic Graphic Design<br />

A course that uses project assignments to teach the application of visual<br />

graphic communication techniques as well as functional art production <strong>and</strong><br />

printing processes. Prerequisites: ART120, ART211. Three hours.<br />

ART240 Painting I<br />

The study <strong>and</strong> application of the oil painting media with an emphasis on a<br />

technical working knowledge <strong>and</strong> its application to a personal style. Three<br />

hours.<br />

ART250 Computer Graphics: Design I<br />

This computer laboratory art course introduces tools <strong>and</strong> techniques for<br />

digital-based imaging <strong>and</strong> editing. Utilizing Adobe software, this course<br />

focuses on the development of visual design skills through digital photo<br />

manipulation <strong>and</strong> illustrative drawing. Prerequisites: ART120, ART211. Three<br />

hours.<br />

ART255 Computer Graphics: Design II<br />

A computer laboratory course that introduces software utilized by graphic<br />

designers for page design, layout, typography, <strong>and</strong> composition. Focus<br />

will include development of visual design skills through critique.<br />

Approaches to print, web, <strong>and</strong> presentation page design will be explored.<br />

Prerequisite: ART120 <strong>and</strong> ART211. Three hours.<br />

ART260 Digital Photography<br />

Students explore digital photography as a tool for media communication.<br />

Contemporary issues will include ethics in story telling <strong>and</strong> professional<br />

practices, file management, digital problem solving, <strong>and</strong> computer<br />

editing techniques. Three hours.<br />

ART270 Life Drawing<br />
