IN MEMORY OF SCARLETT
To commemorate
the short life of Paul
Astley’s niece Scarlett,
Paul and with three
other team members,
partner Charlotte,
brother Daniel and
family friend Bianca
decided that they
wanted to complete a
fundraising challenge in
her memory.
“Scarlett was cared for
by the wonderful team at
Alder Hey and there was
no hesitation in choosing
who our fundraising
would go to.”
Bianca came up with
the idea to complete a
100km challenge and
the team opted to go
for the Thames Path
Challenge in September
2017.
“We contacted Alder
Hey began and received
full support and amazing
training t-shirts, collection
boxes and leaflets to help us
start up our fundraising.”
Training began almost
immediately and proved to be
a challenge in itself as none
of us had completed an event
of this magnitude before.
We fitted training around
work and family life over the
course of 12 months, cycling
to work and back, running,
walking and swimming.
The team set themselves a
target of £3,000 which they
hit the very morning they were
on the London underground
heading to the start point of
their challenge.
Despite acute leg pains and
horrendous blisters cutting two
of the team’s challenge short at
a highly commendable 50 plus
km – the remaining two team
members crossed the finish line,
gratefully receiving two glasses
of champagne and their medals.
THE TEAM AND THEIR FAMILY AND FRIENDS RAISED AN INCREDIBLE £3,376.59.
