Characteristics
Large, strongly built, square skull, short nose, thick
tail (shorter than head-body length -> 19 - 29 cm),
small laid back ears
Small, delicate, pointed nose, large sparsely haired
ears, tail length = head-body length (7 - 11 cm)
Nutrition take-up
Usually feeds at 2-3 trusted locations/night
(20 - 30 g). Needs separate water.
Feeds erratically at 20 locations/night (2 - 3 g).
Can use the water content in the food.
Planning rat and mouse control
A. Test baiting:
Carry out a test baiting to ascertain the extent and
type of rodent species.
B. Combat phase:
Split your farm/installation into an
• outer barrier belt (green bait locations),
• inner barrier belt (blue bait locations) and
• acute combat area (red bait locations).
C. Documentation:
Documentation is important for systematic control
and its success.
