Home Reading • Home reading in Pre primary should be a pleasant, positive and rewarding experience. • It supports students in developing a love of reading and gives them confidence in their own ability. • Home reading is not aimed at teaching anything new, but rather gives students further opportunities in their home environment to practise their skills and to have a go.
Make Reading at Home Fun! Regular and enjoyable shared reading <strong>with</strong> your child can make a HUGE difference in your child’s ability to read and comprehend what they read. • Reading to your child is just as important as home reading. If your child is too tired to read to you or not very cooperative ALWAYS read to them. • Praise your child for their efforts. They will respond positively to praise and feel supported in the reading task. • Where possible try and find a ‘reading routine’ that suits you and your child. Children enjoy routine and feel secure in the learning situation.
