The <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> <strong>provides</strong> digital feeder <strong>protection</strong> and breaker control in an economical package<br />
June 2, 2003, Markham, Ontario – The <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> is the first product<br />
in the <strong>new</strong> M<strong>II</strong> family <strong>of</strong> economical and highly functional digital<br />
relays from <strong>GE</strong> Multilin. The <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> <strong>provides</strong> comprehensive<br />
distribution feeder <strong>protection</strong> at any voltage <strong>level</strong>, and can also<br />
be used <strong>for</strong> backup <strong>protection</strong> <strong>for</strong> trans<strong>for</strong>mers, busbars,<br />
generators and large motors. In addition to feeder <strong>protection</strong>, the<br />
<strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> also <strong>provides</strong> integrated breaker control (open/close) and<br />
recloser functions. To complement its <strong>protection</strong> and control<br />
features, the relay’s user-friendly controls and plug and play<br />
setup s<strong>of</strong>tware make this product very easy to configure and use.<br />
The <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers complete feeder <strong>protection</strong> including time delayed and instantaneous<br />
overcurrent with two setting <strong>level</strong>s (high and low), as well as thermal image <strong>protection</strong>. The relay<br />
also incorporates a special sensitive ground range to provide high impedance fault <strong>protection</strong>,<br />
and features options such as cold load pickup, breaker failure <strong>protection</strong>, a breaker diagnostic<br />
monitor, configurable logic, oscillography record and a four-shot recloser. The relay includes a<br />
library <strong>of</strong> configurable I/O functions to simplify setup, as well as flexible settings, and a choice <strong>of</strong><br />
ANSI, IEC or user configurable overcurrent curves.<br />
The product’s design incorporates many features that simplify setup and maintenance. To<br />
facilitate wiring, the <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> is fitted with large connection terminals to meet North American and<br />
International standards. In addition, its modular internal architecture <strong>provides</strong> convenient access<br />
<strong>for</strong> customers to upgrade their circuit boards. The <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> is also an ideal size <strong>for</strong> limited space<br />
applications such as panels, and it can be used to replace existing M family relays.<br />
The <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> was designed with a user-friendly interface that <strong>provides</strong> convenient access to vital<br />
in<strong>for</strong>mation. Using the unit’s password protected local keypad, authorized users can quickly view

device data or per<strong>for</strong>m breaker control functions. To view in<strong>for</strong>mation, the <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong>’s large display<br />
and LEDs provide users with relay data such as metered parameters and alarm conditions, and<br />
are easy to read from a distance. Customers can also access data and event records on the <strong>MIF</strong><br />
<strong>II</strong> by connecting a PC. The front RS232 port <strong>provides</strong> local PC access while the rear RS485 port<br />
can be used <strong>for</strong> remote communications. The <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> supports industry standard ModBus<br />
communications protocol, providing easy integration with control systems.<br />
The <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> ships with enerVista v3.0, a suite <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware products<br />
<strong>for</strong> managing the entire lifecycle implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>GE</strong> Multilin<br />
IEDs. enerVista makes setting up and configuring the <strong>MIF</strong> <strong>II</strong> easier<br />
and faster than ever be<strong>for</strong>e. enerVista <strong>provides</strong> comprehensive<br />
tools to help the user setup, manage, maintain and update their <strong>MIF</strong><br />
