cont…………… When individuals with community responsibilities transgress those golden principles and place personal interests before those of the community, then compromise can be subsumed, consensus evaporates, democracy fails, and the nett result can be unhappiness at all levels and obfuscation of the important work of a council. A whole community may have its expectations failed. It was from this standpoint that an enthusiastic and engaged parish chairman resigned. Following my resignation an en-masse resignation of Cradley councillors occurred. I for one can only hope that the future direction of the Council is one with adherence to the principles of a democratic mandate, executed in a collegiate manner and in a spirit of consensus and compromise. Geoffrey Fielding Retiring Chairman SEEN THE SIGN? 23rd Nov 2017 A rumour appears to be spreading in Cradley regarding a pantom sign which is reported to have appeared on the new notice board opposite the Cradley Stores and Butchers on Bosbury Road. Nothing unusual about that, a notice on a notice board, but the fact that it has been rumoured that it was encouragging people to boycott the Stores opposite does in the Enquirers opinion exceeds what acceptable in a civilised community. So can anyone who actually saw this “posting” before it was removed (or even put it up) let us know what it said or verify its contents. If the person who put it up would like to contact us directly we are happy to allow them to put their case in posting such a notice. such a notice The Enquirer never received a response CASE CLOSED
From The PC (apparently) The Enquirer has asked the PC the questions posed by it’s contributers. They were sent to Mr Harries as the apparent contact point for the PC which is at this date still ineffectual due to not being quorate. The questions were asked as they were sent to us but names witheld on the request of those asking. This is the reply received by the Enquirer: The Parish Council has long had the practice of not responding to anonymous correspondents, and therefore I would suggest that you encourage your correspondents to contact us directly with any query. This equally applies to the editorial team of the Enquirer of course. Best wishes, Wynne Harries (Cradley Parish Councillor) Now this seems very strange in that the Enquirer was fully identified in the request and Simon, our stand in editor (until our team is complete) used his mailbox rather than the editors mailbox to contact Mr Harries. None the less we requested that Mr Harries furnish us with what criteria they use for branding correspondence as “anonymous” and therefore not responded to? No surprises that no guidance has been forthcoming. Now to the description in Mr Harries email of PC practice. Our investigations show that whilst this on the surface may seem to be correct it is in fact very misleading. True in the past the PC have had instances of anonymous letters sent to them it is not true that they are not responded to They may not be replied to (lack of contact details) but they are all read to councillors and if relevant, responded to. As the questions were able to be responded to why are the PC (according to Mr Harries) refusing to answer questions posed by members of the community? Are the Parish Council not there to work on behalf of the community that elected them. Are they not obliged to answer questions from that community? Seems that despite refusing to respond and answer the questions posed by members of the community the Parish Council have seen the validity of two of those questions and in fact changed the PC meeting to what it should be “AN EXTRA ORDINARY MEETING” Well they are half way there. All they now have to master is the art of responding openly to those who they are supposed to represent and be as they are supposed to be OPEN AND TRANSPARENT 26/11/17 EDITOR
