VOLUNTEER LITTER PICKUP HOSTED
BY THE GRAND LAKES GREEN COMMITTEE
The Green Committee will host our second annual spring litter pickup
service project on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 8:45-11 AM in partnership
with Keep Texas Beautiful and the Don’t mess with Texas Trash-Off.
“The Don’t mess with Texas Trash-Off is the single largest one-day
cleanup event in the state and serves as Texas’s signature event for
the Great American Cleanup, the nation’s largest community improvement
program, held annually from March 1 st through May 31 st . The
Don’t mess with Texas Trash-Off is part of TxDOT’s litter prevention
program, which includes Don’t mess with Texas, Adopt-a-Highway and
a grassroots partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful.” (source ktb.org)
Within GL litter is concentrated along the main roads and around retail
centers. Very little litter has been observed in the GL green spaces or
along the bayou. The project will pick up litter along Peek and Fry (in the
medians, along the curb and litter caught in landscaping) as far as GL
extends and INSIDE the fenced GL landscaped and wooded areas along 99.
Thank you to the girl and boy scouts and residents who have volunteered
for this initiative! Please keep an eye out for us that morning and drive
carefully.
