I want to speak to those of you who might be discouraged because you're having a difficult time figuring out
your purpose. It can feel like you're an Israelite wandering in the desert with no Promised Land in sight. The
journey is unique for everyone but I can tell you from experience, God prepares us for it and refines us through
it. And sometimes that's the hard part.
Consider my journey. In 2013, I decided to serve God with my career. I settled on helping people discover their
mission. Yet, business coaches told me not to "lead with the God stuff" and to focus on helping people make
more money. What started out as a vocation slowly became something entirely different. Take a look.
WE'RE coverage. GOING TO LONDON THIS SEPTEMBER!
Then while on a silent retreat last year, I noticed an eerie set of "coincidences." I had lost my job, my landlord
put my rental on the market, and I had gotten a call that my aunt was in the hospital and would need a full-time
caregiver. I thought to myself, this is exactly what happened five years ago. I'm right back where I started!
Then I heard the Holy Spirit say gently in the form of a thought, "That's ok. Now you can begin again the
right way."
I understood that I had allowed my ego to take me to a place that I had never set out for. Now, I'm rebuilding a
platform from scratch, finishing a book about hearing God in the silence, and depending on Him to provide for
me. The value in allowing God to shape you is that you move from potential to purpose. It's tempting to do
what's safe, but when you plug into the power of your purpose, amazing things happen that your ego
can't buy.
