A DIFFERENT KIND OF SPRING CLEANING
Spring is nearly here, and for many people that means spring cleaning. It
means tossing away old clothes, moving the furniture and mopping unseen
places, washing hand and nose prints off the windows, scrubbing walls, and
perhaps painting or redecorating.
But there’s another kind of spring cleaning, a kind that could do more to
spruce up our lives and brighten our day than any other kind of cleaning.
What if we also spring cleaned our relationships this season?
What if we scrubbed the stains off of our marriages, our relationships with
our children, our co-workers, bosses, and friends? What if we mopped up
the messes we’ve made and wiped off the dirt we’ve allowed to build up?
What if we swept away the dust bunnies under our friendships? What if we
listened more, spent more quality time, and reached out to those we’ve ignored?
What if we spruced up our promises and intentions, and remembered
that our loved ones want us to be there for them emotionally, not just
physically?
If you’re interested in giving it a try, here’s a proactive approach to doing this
kind of spring cleaning: First, make a list of people you have relationships
with, including your close family, kin, friends, etc. Next, go through each
name and ask yourself how you could tidy up that relationship. It may only
need a little polish, like a letter to Aunt May who hasn’t heard from you since
Christmas. It may need deep cleaning, like telling the truth about a big lie or
getting vulnerable about your feelings. Or you may simply decide things are
just fine the way they are.

10 Years Of Fun
Attention Superheroes: This is your chance
to have some fun and be your best! The City
of Temecula and the Temecula Valley Unified
School District are proud to present the 10th
Annual Temecula Special Games on Saturday,
April 14, 2018 from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm.
The Temecula Special Games are set to take
place at Great Oak High School (32555 Deer
Hollow Way). This event is free to athletes of
all ages with developmental disabilities.
“Temecula’s Special Games attract a record
number of volunteers each year providing
teens to seniors with the opportunity to act as
peer buddies. Athletes pair with a volunteer to
keep them safe and focused which allows parents
and family members the chance to watch
and support their players,” says Mayor Matt
Rahn.
Athletes receive a free t-shirt, and participate in
opening ceremonies, non-competitive games,
and sporting events, plus, enjoy a sponsored
lunch and finish with closing ceremonies.
Mayor Rahn adds, “The City of Temecula
Games’ community and business sponsors
making this celebration possible and expanding
our reach every year since 2008.”
The purpose of these Special Games is to provide
individuals of all ages the opportunity to
enjoy the fun of playing sports and activities,
the benefit of teamwork, and the achievement
of making a goal.
Mayor Pro Tem Mike Naggar states, “Temecula’s
Special Games is celebrating its first decade
milestone this year. It is a day that brings
residents hope and encouragement by providing
a positive, family-friendly atmosphere. I
invite all residents and visitors throughout our
region to experience this inspiring event that
is uplifting and empowering for all ages and
abilities.”

with five of the Romantic Period’s greatest
writers culminated in a contest to write the
best ghost story. From that summer a masterpiece

Construction To Begin Soon On
Temecula Park-And-Ride Lot
Carpoolers in Temecula have cause for celebration.
Construction is expected to start later this
month on a 157-space park-and-ride lot at the
northeast corner of Temecula Parkway and
La Paz Street, according to Patrick Thomas,
Temecula’s director of public works and city
engineer.
Thomas said it will be the first park-and-ride
built on city-owned property.
“With the large number of people commuting
to San Diego everyday,” Thomas said, “it will
be a great opportunity to carpool and have
your vehicle in a convenient location.”
The lot, which sits a few thousand feet east
of the 15 Freeway, will include lighting, landscaping
and potentially some electric vehicle
charging stations.
“It’s just a great location,” Thomas said.
Chili Cooks Needed For
Temecula Area Fundraiser
To Help Injured Vets
Are you a veteran who can make a mean bowl
of chili? Then the WAVES Project wants you.
The nonprofit has set their fourth annual chili
cook off fundraiser from 1 to 6 p.m. April 8 at
Abbott Manor, 40350 Camino del Vino in the
Temecula Wine Country.
Chili cooks who are veterans or active duty are
welcome to sign up for the competition.
This family-friendly event will include chili
tasting, music, food vendors, games, raffle
prizes and more. Proceeds will help the group
help injured southern California veterans.
Tickets are $40 for adults, and $15 for children
12 and under.

Work began on the lot nearly two years ago
but stopped after the original contractor was
dismissed. At the time, the city cited “various
aspects of nonperformance.”
“The original contractor more or less defaulted
on performance on the project and kind of left
the job midstream,” Thomas said. “We were
kind of stuck.”
The plan picked up steam last year and the city
awarded a contract last month. Construction
costs total about $1.7 million, Thomas said.
At the moment, the unfinished lot has a few
concrete slabs and is surrounded by a chainlink
fence. The site is “more or less graded,”
Thomas said.
“The new contractor will finish the grading
and do all the other surface improvements,” he
added.
The lot is expected to open in about six months.

Temecula Next In Line For
A Raising Cane’s Fried
Chicken Restaurant
Plans to turn a former Hometown Buffet into
a chicken fingers drive-through are making
their way through Temecula City Hall, a publicist
for Raising Cane’s confirmed.
Mica Brandt, Southern California-based marketing
adviser for the Louisiana chain, said in
an email the project is in its early stages.
The Hometown Buffet was at 40390 Margarita
Road. It abruptly closed in 2016.
The Temecula site is not yet on Raising Cane’s
list of store openings, according to publicists.
Raising Cane’s has opened two restaurants in
the Inland Empire, the first in Riverside on
Halloween and the second last week in San
Bernardino.
In both cases, the chain did not make announcements
until shortly before their opening
dates.
Brandt has confirmed two Inland locations
will open this year. One will be on Mountain
Avenue in Ontario, expected to open in late
spring.
Brandt’s rough estimate for the other, in Menifee
Lakes Plaza, is summer. (as reported on

LA TOUR - MYSTERIOUS TOWER OF LAGUNA BEACH
The public beach access isn’t easy to see, but it’s
right next to address 2713 Victoria Drive. This is a
long stairway that eventually gets down to the far north end
of the beach.The structure, known as “La Tour” (french for
tower), is a 60-foot castle-inspired tower. It was built at the
same time as the house at the top of the bluff, in 1926, and
was used as a way to get from the house down to the beach
below, which is a beautiful stretch of sand called Victoria
Beach. The beach tower is made of poured concrete with
an ocean stone foundation and cone-shaped roof made of
shingles. Several narrow window openings in the tower wall
allow light to pass through to the wooden spiral stairway
inside.The house, known as the “Norman House” due it’s
Norman-style architecture, is itself a landmark of Laguna
Beach. It was built for California State Senator William Edward
Brown and his family and used during summers and
holidays as a retreat from their Beverly Hills home. FOr

Digital’ Sought For
Temecula Digifest
The nonprofit JDS Creative Academy is seeking
sponsors, speakers and entries of “all
things digital” for it’s second annual Digifest
set for April 13 through 15 in Temecula.
Any media which is designed or enhanced digitally,
including film, video, animation, music,
games, photography, graphics and comics, can
be submitted for the event and competition.
Entrants must be ages 10 and up, and there are
student, amateur and professional categories.
The deadline to enter is March 31.
The event will include speakers from the
digital media field, presentations, workshops,
screenings, digital exhibits, and expo vendors,
and will take place at JDS Studios, 28069
Diaz Road in Temecula and in other locations
around the city.
According to a news release from the group,
speakers include John Corser from NBC/Universal,
Disney Animation Developer Mike
Morris, Cartoon Network Animators Justin
and Josh Parpan, and Creative Suite Trainer
David Creamer, who will present an Adobe
After Effects workshop. The event will also
feature a presentation of “Marsha Hunt’s Sweet
Adversity.”

Round One Entertainment is planning to
open next spring inside the Promenade Mall
in Temecula.
The center will offer bowling and arcade games
and be located on the first floor of the Sears
building. The Sears store will now operate on
the second floor, according to a news release.
The new entertainment center is expected to
be nearly 50,000 square feet. It is expected to
open in spring 2019, according to the release.
The Temecula entertainment center will join
other locations at the Moreno Valley Mall and
Puente Hills Mall in City of Industry. (as reported

New City App
Temecula residents will now have news, events,
information, and services in the palm of their
hands with the new City of Temecula App.
The City of Temecula App is designed to enhance
citizen engagement by streamlining access
to City
information. Within the app, you can find information
regarding City parks and facilities,
contact information, news, social media feeds,
and event calendars. You can also view Channel
3, Temecula TV directly on your device.
In addition to providing information, the City
of Temecula App allows access to City services.
Residents will have the ability to report nonemergency
issues to the City at any time of the
day or night. Issues such as potholes, graffiti,
homeless concerns and more can be reported
quickly and easily using photographs, location,
and other information about the issue. Once
the issue is submitted, staff is notified, and
the resident can track the status of their issue
through the app.
“The City of Temecula strives to be accessible
to our residents, and the City of Temecula App
is a tool they can use to quickly access information,
services, and resources from the City,”
said Mayor Matt Rahn. “With the prevalence
of mobile devices today, apps like this allow
residents to not only stay informed, but is an
additional option to interact with the City on
various topics.”

A delightful addition to your St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, or just because!
DIRECTIONS:
Combine 2 cups leftover mashed potatoes, a heaping 1/3 cup flour,
2 tablespoons milk and 1 tablespoon chopped mixed herbs in a
bowl; knead until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Divide into
4 balls on a floured surface and flatten each into a 3-inch patty. Melt
1 1/2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat;
add the patties and cook until golden brown, 4 to 5 minutes per
side, adding more butter to the pan as needed. Season with salt.
